Things have gone wrong

The old man was wearing very luxurious clothes, he looked like a king, not only this, but even his aura screamed that the was very powerful. He walked straight to Samuel and his mother with a smiling face, he seemed very approachable.

"I see you have recovered well from the child-birth Catherine, I hope everything is okay." Said the old man.

"Yes Count Royden, Samuel is very healthy and I have already recovered with the High Priest help. My little Sammy is very active, always looking everywhere and he is always smiling." Catherine said with a beaming face, and gave Samuel a little kiss on the cheek.

'So his name is Royden, if I'm not wrong he is my grandfather.' Thought Samuel.

"And you Adam, are you feeling good having your first son?" Said Count Royden.

"Yes father, I'm very happy to have a healthy son, and I would say, very good looking, just like me! Hahaha." Said Samuel's father with a smiling face and full of pride.

"Hehe, I see, he indeed is very handsome, just like his grandfather and father." Said Count Royden.

Catherine just rolled her eyes, but still smiling.

"ahem". Count Royden cleared his throat. "You know, as we always do, this is the time to measure the child talent." As he said this the atmosphere got serious, Catherine and Adam stopped smiling and got a tensed look on their faces. Count Royden sighed. "You know, even if he has a waste of a talent he's still going to be your child, and we can protect him even you can't."

"We know father, it's just that the time seems to be getting closer and closer to a all out war, so it would be a good thing if our child had the best talent as possible." Said Adam.

"Don't worry. We know that a war is coming, but we also know that it's probably a thing that will be held on 30 or so years. So even if his talent is no good, we can still train our people to protect our family and kingdom." Said Count Royden.

'Shit, just my luck to have been reborn to a world on the brink of war...'

"Okay, let's just stop wasting time and test him already." Said Count Royden as he took a clear orb the size of his palm that looked to be made out of glass out of thin air.

'Oh, so we have a spatial equipment here?' Thought Samuel as he searched Royden hands for a space ring.

He couldn't search much as his mother laid him flatly on the bed she was with him.

Count Royden took the orb and laid it on his belly.

"Okay, lets begin the talent appraisal." Said Count Royden.

After he said this, the orb began to turn cloudy until it was completely grey.

'I hope my talent is good. I always loved the mages novels I read back on Earth.' Thought Samuel with shining eyes.

The way the test works is very simple. A person just needs to lay the orb on the child abdomen and apply mana to it. Then the orb would gather raw mana from the outside, thus it would turn cloudy, and when it was full it would turn completely gray. The appraisal orb would them send all the gathered mana to the child for 60 seconds and guide it towards the child mana core so it could be refined, and after this amount of time the orb would gather the mana back from the child and the clearer the orb was, the better would the child talent be as the mana the orb couldn't gather back was already refined.

After Samuel saw it turn completely gray, he felt a wave of mana invade his body. It started turning inside his body and was being directed to his lower abdomen. When it reached his mana core, Samuel felt that something had activated inside his body. After that he felt that the mana was struggling to continue it's way to his mana core. Samuel thought nothing of it as he had no idea of what was happening.

As the seconds were passing, Samuel thought that maybe his talent was not really good, as just a small amount of the mana that was inside his body was being gathered by his mana core.

60 seconds passed from the beginning of the test and Samuel felt the unrefined mana leave his body.

Samuel saw the mana orb turn really cloudy as did his Father, Mother and Grandfather.

Their faces turned really ugly after they saw that, but his mother asked with a little bit of hope. "How is it Count Royden, how's his t-talent?" Her voice trembled a bit as she asked.

"*sigh*, only 15% of the mana was refined. I hoped he could have a high talent as you and his father have a good talent, but unfortunately I was wrong. But at least he is not completely talent-less. A normal talent for a child would be about 30% to 40% of the mana to be refined, but I guess we can still help him with our resources, so he will not be completely defenseless on the future." After he said this Adam and Catherine lowered their heads.

Samuel looked at them and thought 'Don't worry Father, Mother, I won't disappoint you even if my magic talent is just this little, I will work harder than others to make you happy.'

"I will take my leave, rest well." Said Count Royden. He did not look disappointed as Samuel's parents did. 'Even if my Grandson talents are not good, our family still have a lot of resources and I can still teach him well, I will not let him be defenseless in the future.'
