Chapter 2

The next day, Peter woke up late due to being quite exhausted after yesterday's events. He had to rush through his morning routine to not miss the mandatory day starting activities. The activities were nothing special, mostly just breakfast and a little exercise routine, but the caretakers were really strict about everyone attending.

After he had some time for himself Peter went straight to Mr. Daniel's office. When he entered the room he found the old supervisor sleeping in his chair.

This wasn't an unusual sight, although not many knew about it Mr. Daniel had a bad habit of spending entire nights doing something with his computer, something Peter planned to ask him about.

He grabbed the old man to try and shake him awake, but his new companion decided to pop up with something new to say.

[Absorb can be used on the target.]

[Do you want to use Absorb?]

[Yes]  [No]

Peter, after some consideration, pressed the [Yes] button in hopes of finding out what this "ability" actually does.

Whatever it did, it startled Mr. Daniel who in his shock accidentally hit Peter in the head, knocking him out instantly.

A few hours later Peter woke up in the Doctor's office just in time to hear Mr. Daniel being told about his early retirement.

Soon after the doctor noticed that No.441 was awake and decided to quickly explain his situation. The hit on his head wasn't actually the biggest problem but that he fell on the building's only piece of floor that wasn't padded. It caused a concussion and some minor cracks in his skull so he would spend at least a week in bed.

After the explanation was over she ordered everyone outside to give some peace to the patient. And with that, Peter was left alone with the suddenly talkative "interface".

Peter noticed the changes in the numbers but still had no clue what it meant. He assumed it was a good thing because the interface was talking about success and rewards, but he decided to ask just to be safe.

"Miss Angel, what does all of this mean?"

[Error!]

[User is not authorized to speak with the Patron.]

The response was unexpected and unreasonable since he spoke with the angel last night without a problem. In his annoyance Peter decided to ask in a different way.

"Can you tell me then?"

He did get a proper response to that, although not in the way he would have liked.

[Heart of night: User recovers faster at night and experiences less stress. Sleep is not required for activation. Magic increases recovery speed.]

[Absorb: Absorb blessings from target. If successful, the target will lose the effects of their blessings. Success rate increases when the target is defenseless. Magic increases success rate.]

Reading all of the text took Peter ten minutes and another five to actually understand it. But after he was done he had to acknowledge the obvious, aside from his head still being in pain, he did feel better than ever before in his life.

Although the answers he got were helpful, he didn't get all of the answers he wanted.

"What is the Patron? You could also tell me what that class 2 meant."

These answers weren't as helpful as Peter expected but he hoped to get at least one more piece of information.

"What class am I in?"

The miniscule amount of confidence Peter felt after he became stronger was crushed at that moment. He was still weaker than what the interface considered the bare minimum.

His only consolation was the fact that he had the tools to improve his circumstances.
