Chapter 61 Troublesome Journey

John stood up when he saw the sun rising, it was quite the view, although slightly ruined by the walkers littered outside the fence. John walked out of the tower, heading off into the courtyard. John then sat at a table and waited for people to begin moving around. Hershel came and joined him about an hour later.

When it was around 10, John walked into the library and saw the group discussing again. John asked them, "You ready to go look for medicine?"

The group nodded and Hershel who walked in with John said, "Be sure to check the Veterinary College. They will have all the medicine we need." They then discussed who would go and it was decided that John would go with, Ty, Bob, Michonne, and Daryl.

John and his group then left the building and went towards a newer mustang. John thought it was nice, but not as beautiful as his car. They got in and left the prison, eager to find the medicine and come back. They wanted to save as many people as possible, it turns out Sasha had gotten sick this morning causing Ty to be in a hurry to get back to them.

They went down the road at great speed and the backseat was a little packed, luckily Ty sat in the front as Daryl drove. This gave them some extra room in the back, as Michonne didn't take up much space and Bob wasn't a particularly large man. He was actually quite lanky.

An hour quickly passed, and they were nearing their destination, on the radio a transmission was heard. Daryl looked down at the radio as he spun the dial, trying to make the message clearer. Daryl turned it and the message became a little clearer, it said, "find sanctuary... Terminus... determined to survive... keep alive." As everyone was looking at the radio, they didn't notice the walkers in front, causing them to swerve around them.

They ran into a horde of walkers. Not a small one either, there were thousands of walkers. They smacked into a couple walkers, and they were a distance into the horde. Daryl sped backwards quickly, but this turned out to be a failure. The car got stuck on top of a pile of walkers and they were unable to move at all. The tire was spinning tirelessly but all it did was rip through some of the walkers underneath it, it was completely unable to get any traction.

They had to abandon the car, as the walkers were beginning to surround them. Daryl burst out of the sunroof and shot a walker with an arrow, Ty hopped out his door smashing a walker's head in. John followed them bursting out of his door, John was swinging a fire axe at any walker that approached, providing room for Michonne and Bob to get out as well.

Michonne and Bob got out quickly and started to run through the gaps of the walkers, toward the forest. John made his own path, shredding through walker heads as he made his way to the woods. John made it to the woods and followed Daryl who was in front leading them, John stayed in the back hacking any walkers that followed after them.

They jogged through the woods at a consistent pace, while dodging branches and small trees, brushing past them. The woods started to thin out as they continued forward. They came to a road and started walking down it. They continued down the road for a long time and it started to get dark. They went off into the woods and set up camp, losing the car had drastically increased the time needed to arrive at the college. They slept during the night as John told them he would keep guard. The rest tried to insist on John resting some, but John said he was fine.

The next morning the rest woke up and saw some dead walkers scattered around, about 10 of them. They were all a little shocked, as John had killed them all without waking them up. They thanked John, then they continued down the road.

They stopped at a creak to fill up their water bottles and Ty washed his blood-stained shirt, a hammer was a pretty messy weapon if you think about it. When they had finished up, they hurried down the road again, as they had lost a lot of time.

They walked down the dirt road, barely large enough for a car to drive on, and surrounded by trees. Daryl crouched down and grabbed a rock off the floor, he licked his thumb and cleaned off the rock.

Michonne asked, "Is that jasper?"

Daryl said, "Mm-hmm."

Michonne joked, "It's a good color bring out your eyes." John hearing this thought, 'What do you meen, you can barely see his eyes from behind all that haircovering them.'

Daryl just said, "When Miss Richards went into A block, we were leaving. Asked me to keep a look out. I'm gonna use it for the old man's marker."

Michonne asked surprised, "You knew all of them back there."

Daryl replied, "You stay in one place more than a couple hours you'd be surprised what you might pick up." Daryl then walked off as Michonne looked at his back for a second, before she followed.

John looked at this and was thinking, 'Ooh, burn.' John then followed Michonne as Bob and Ty followed him.

Daryl, who was in the front, caught glimpse of a building up ahead. They sped up as they went towards it, arriving in front of a building that looked to be abandoned. The building had a sign on it saying Big Tony's Express Mart, the whole place was covered in a thick layer of vines and a tree had fallen over onto it. The only place free of vines was the rolling doors, probably because the vine couldn't attach onto the surface well.

Daryl looked at some vines on the side of the building and Bob noticed this, he said, "You see something."

Daryl says, "Maybe." Then he pulled on the veins, John walked over and helped him. When the vines were cleared, they found a minivan. Daryl then got in and tried to hotwire it, while he was doing that, John, Ty and Bob cleared the rest of the vines.

Daryl got out a few minutes later and said, "The battery's dead. We got to find a new one if we want this thing to run." Daryl then looked into a window near him, he goes to wipe it down, but he gets a jump scare from a walker. John almost laughed when he looked at Daryl who had actually showed emotion for a second.

Daryl recovered within a second and said, "We got friends inside. Come on." They then walked around front and started to clear the vines to try and get inside. John hacked down with his axe, shredding through some vines.

Ty who was also swinging into the vines, got caught on something and started pulling. When his machete had been recovered, it had some wires on it. Daryl looked over at him, because he was acting strange and was grabbed by a walker. John who was paying attention, swung his axe down towards Daryl, cutting the walkers arm off in one chop.

Bob was distracted by this and was also grabbed by a walker, but luckily, Michonne was near him and killed the walker with a quick stab forward. Ty had also got grabbed and was pulling back as hard as he could, trying to get away. But all the pulling caused the walker to fall onto him. Before it could bite him, John grabbed its hair and stabbed it with his knife. John then dragged the dead walker off of Ty, who was still on the ground, catching his breath.

While John was doing this Daryl killed another walker that had got stuck in the vines coming after him. With that all the walkers were taken care of, John whistled loudly, but there was no movement from the vines. Seeing this, the group began to cut through the vines once again, creating a path into the building.
