Chapter 31 Overrun

When they had finished breakfast, John and his family went outside. They went for a walk and Sarah would make them stop every now and then, to collect flowers and present them. John and his women felt their hearts warm, seeing Sarah smile at them.

They then continued to spend time together John explaining his plan to care for Sarah, to Maggie and Amy. The girls were very excited when they heard this, they had grown quite fond of Sarah.

John spent the entire day with his family, Sarah growing even closer to the two women. Sarah had even started calling both Maggie and Amy, "Mommy". The girls were very happy with this development and could almost feel them looking at him, with eyes hopeful that they would raise their own children, that they would create with him.

While John and his family had spent time with each other. Some of the people of the group had gone around the farm and killed some walkers they had found. They had gone searching through the farm because of the incident with Dale last night.

This morning Dale had told them about his close encounter with a walker and how he had only survived because John was there. This caused the group to become more cautious, as the threat that they had been trying to forget about was brought back to the front of their minds.

The group who went around the farm, had killed about 6 walkers and they had done so with melee weapons, opting to save the ammo for a larger threat.

The day passed quickly and in the late afternoon, John and his family were sitting inside. Sarah was playing with Lily and some of the other girls. The boys were outside, running around.

The peaceful atmosphere of the house was interrupted when they heard a shout outside. John told everyone to stay inside and before he went out to see what happened he comforted Sarah, with a head pat. Sarah was still afraid of sudden loud sounds, but she was getting better and recovering quickly from her trauma.

Walking out of the house John saw Shane talking to Rick. He said, "That bastard Randal. He got the drop on me and clocked me in them face. He also has my gun." Rick hearing this had everyone except Glen, Daryl and Shane, go into the house.

Rick wanted John to come and help search for Randal, but John said, "I'll stay here at the house and keep everyone safe in case Randal comes back for revenge."

Rick and his group then walked off, in a hurry. Going in the direction Shane told them Randal had run off to.

John went back into the house and calmed everyone down as they were starting to panic. When they had calmed down, John had them all sit down and play some games together. This kept anyone from having any problem and he also had the ladies prepare some snacks.

Time passed and Daryl and Glen had just gotten back from searching for Randal. Daryl said, "We found Randal, but he had turned. The weird thing is though, he wasn't bit. His neck was broken and there was blood on a tree. It looked like Shane was following him and Shane isn't a tracker, so they were traveling together."

Suddenly, they heard a gunshot in the distance. Hearing this the adults ran out of the house, to the porch. Looking around they immediately noticed that there were walkers, hundreds of them. There were enough walkers to level the house.

The group started to panic but John stopped them, he then handed out the guns they had. When everyone had a gun, they began to defend the farm, but they quickly noticed that the walkers would overrun them. As they were getting ready to flee the farm, Lori finally noticed that Carl was nowhere to be found.

John thought, 'Here we go again, the worlds shittiest mom award goes to!' John seeing the farm was being overrun very quickly, had the kids, along with Amy and Maggie get into the RV.

John told everyone that if they get separated, they should meet on the highway, where they had been stopped by the large number of densely packed cars.

As they were packing and fighting off the walkers that came too close, the group saw that the barn had gone up in flames. Carol seeing this said maybe Rick or Carl set the fire and needed rescue. Lori was about to do something stupid, and the walkers were getting closer and closer to the group.

John told everyone to abandon the farm while he goes to the barn and checked if anyone needed help. The group was reluctant at first, but they did as John said. John then ran to a car and hopped in.

He drove towards the farm, shooting walkers through the window with his pistol. When he reached the barn, John saw Rick and Carl stand on a ledge of the roof. Seeing this, John pulled the car up to them and then got out of the car. He shot any of the walkers that approached them, as they climbed down onto the roof of the car.

They all got into the car and then John drove off the farm, driving next to Daryl as he had Carol riding on the back. It seems she was split up from the rest of the group. John also knew they had some sort of relationship going on.

Andrea who had been left behind by the group, was running through the forest. All she had was a pistol and a knife. There were about 22 walkers following her, as she ran, she had shot back at them, hitting some, and missing some. As she continued to run, she began to tire.

As she was on her last fumes of stamina, her speed began to slow. Her legs gave out as she ran her knife through the head of a walker. Now on the ground a walker pounced on her and was about to pin her down. Out of nowhere, its head was cut off and it fell beside her.

Andrea only saw a lone figure, holding 2 walkers that were shackled in chains. The walkers had their lower jaw removed and their arms cut off from their shoulders. Then she passed out, her fate unknown to her.

It was early in the morning when the group had made it to the highway. They had taken so long to arrive because they had to take many detours on the way.

When John reached the highway, they were the first to arrive. They waited for a while and some walkers were passing by, so John pulled out his knife and killed them quietly.

About 30 minutes later the RV arrived and parked next to their car. Amy came out carrying Sarah, Maggie came out as well and they ran to John giving him a strong hug, with tears threatening to spill from their eyes.

Hugging for a while, John was happy to see them safe.

While John was having his reunion, Rick went to the RV and comforted the kids. The kids were already pretty calm though as Amy and Maggie had calmed them down and taken care of them.

Carol had a reunion with her daughter, Sophie, and John thought, 'Carol is crying more than her daughter, what a weak woman.'

They waited for a while and the rest of the group arrived one after another. When everyone was there, they started to ask each other about people that were not here, to confirm if they were alive or not.

Carol said she saw Andrea get taken down by a walker, this caused Amy to cry loudly into John shoulder. Sarah was confused by this and hugged Amy, comforting her.

Some other people of the group didn't make it as well, including Jimmy, Beth's boyfriend, and many of the random people who had survived the quarry attack.

With that out of the way the group began to discuss their next course of action. Lori suggested they go to Fort Benning, but Rick told them that the place had been destroyed. Hearing this the group was discouraged but John spoke up.

John said, "I think I know of a place that could be a great and long-lasting base, a place that we might never have to leave". Hearing this the group got excited, but John quickly calmed them down. He then explained about a prison he had found on a map, telling them it would take about 2 weeks to get there.

Hearing this the group all got into their vehicles and drove off, following John.

Multiple hours later, the group had to stop because the cars were running out of gas. They stopped on the side of a road, surrounded by trees, the sky was beginning to darken, and the sun was setting. They set up a fire next to some rock formations and a small stream.

The group ate dinner, and Rick made a speech about not splitting up. He explained how he killed Shane and that the whole Randal situation was a scheme by Shane to get Rick alone, so he could kill him.

Lori was shocked hearing this and Carl started to cry into her chest. The group then set up an area to rest and started to sleep. John keeping guard all night long, Daryl, Glen, Merle, and Rick joining him at different points of the night.

John had saw that Rick and Lori's relationship was strained because she hated Rick for killing Shane. They didn't sleep near each other that night.

In the morning, when the group had awoken, John ran off down the road holding gas cans, after telling the group. A while later he came back with four cans full of gasoline. The group then left their temporary camp after eating breakfast.

John riding in the RV and holding Sarah, while they drove towards their new home, one that they would stay at for a very long time.
