Chapter 11 The Quarry

When they pulled up to the camp, it was early in the afternoon, the sun was almost directly above their heads. Rick and John were surprised to see about 35 people scattered around the camp. A group of people came running over when they heard the sound of tires hitting the gravel.

Morales tells Rick to come meet everybody, Rick stays in the car for a while, John gets out of the Truck with the rest of them. He saw a cute blonde girl, around the age of 20, come running over excitedly, the blonde runs over to Andrea and hugs her, they say at the same time, "Andrea", "Amy".

Amy was wearing a pink tank top and white jeans, John thinks to himself, 'Just my type. A sweet and gentle girl.'

While the reunions were going on, Shane walks over with a shotgun and says, "Who is this"

Morales answers, "He's one of the new guys, he helped us get out of that department store."

Shane looks at him closely, before seeing that Carl was being by his mom, he walks over to them. Morales seeing that Rick is still not out of the truck says, "Hey helicopter boy. Come say hello".

Rick gets out of the truck slowly, once out he starts to walk forward, meeting gazes with Shane before looking over and seeing Carl and Lori. They were both stunned for a while before they run towards each other and hug, Rick picks him up and walks over to Lori while crying tears of joy. Seeing this reunion, John smiles for one of the first times since he arrived in this world.

Amy looked at the new guy, he was tall and very muscular. She thought he was quite handsome so see stared at him for a while before asking her sister in a whisper, "Who is that tall guy"

Andrea being caught by surprise by her sister, Andrea was starting to think that her sister was a lesbian because she had never shown interest in any man. Seeing that her sister was looking at her expectantly, Andrea whispers back, "That's John. Are you interested in him? He is quite attractive".

John looks over at them after hearing his name, but seeing that they were whispering to each other, he turns away and looks at Shane's reaction, it was priceless. He quietly laughs, "ha ha ha". John looks at Lori and saw her glare at Shane for a second before going back to hugging Rick.

Amy walks John and asks him, "Do you want me to show you around the camp?"

John looks her and smiles before saying, "Yes, thank you. I would really appreciate it". John and Amy then start to walk around the camp, before they started though, John could have sworn he saw Andrea showing her sister a thumbs up.

As they were around the camp, they got to know each other, they talk about what they like to do, their favorite songs, their favorite foods. When they were talking about food, Amy talked about how her favorite candy was chocolate, John remembering that he had taken a few chocolate bars from the department store, take them out of his pocket and offers her them.

She immediately smiles, but pause for a second before asking, "Is it okay? Don't you want them?"

John smiles at her before saying without thinking, "Yeah, it's fine. I like to see you smile". Amy hearing this compliment blushes a small bit and smiles at John, before suddenly hugging him. Catching herself, she lets go and was about to apologize but she looked up and saw John smiling at her.

She calmed down and said quietly, "Thank you, John".

They then continued to walk around for a while, arriving at a cliff, looking over the lake at the bottom, John says, "Wow this place is amazing!". After looking at the lake glisten for a while they started to head back to the center of the camp. They hadn't realized that the sun was about to set until now because they had been so focused on each other. As they made their way towards the center, they finally noticed that all the people they had passed before were looking at them while smiling.

An older couple even said, "Ah, Young love.", they sped up a little at that comment because they were a little embarrassed.

Making it to the center of the camp, they sit down together at the campfire, next to Andrea that was looking at them with a smile. As they were sitting there, Rick starts to talk about how he got here, from meeting John in the hospital, to meeting Morgan and Duane, meeting the group at the department store, and finally finding his family. Rick then thanks Shane for taking care of his family and bringing them to safety.

Shane saw a fat man put another log on the fire and stands up to confront him. Shane says, "What did we talk about Ed. We keep the flames low, to not attract anything to us".

Ed gives in and says to his wife, "Go on, grab that log out of there". John seeing this, frowns toward Ed, already having a bad opinion of him, when Ed's wife stood up, John thought he could see a bruise on her arm, which made him angry, though he kept his mouth shut for now. Shane stepped on the log and put out the fire on it, before talking to the wife, Carol, and the daughter, Sophia.

He asked them, "How are you doing tonight?"

Carol replies, "We're fine", then Shane walks back over and sat back down where he was before.

They sit around, talking to each other for about an hour, John was mainly listening, but he would talk to Amy from time to time, eventually they start to retire back to their own areas. As John had just arrived today, he didn't have anywhere to sleep, so he followed Glen to his tent, becoming his roomie for the night. John saw that Rick was fine because he had gone to his wife's tent, along with his son. After a while, John heard Glen snoring, so he summoned some fruit from Eden, ate them and then put any remains back into Eden for compost. Feeling full and bored he lays down on his back, deciding to sleep for 6 hours.
