Dinner

Meanwhile on the other side….

Zaros felt like he needed to start breaking the ice between himself and his wife. He was waiting for his wife who went to bring dinner for him.

He continued to pace in his room back and forth anxiously as he waited for her to return. He doesn't know where to start and how to start. He was afraid of his wife's rejection.

Adira was spaced out as she instructed the servants to arrange the dinner for her husband. She has been acting like a good wife for the past few days in front of everyone. Even her abusive husband was doing nothing that could hurt her. Instead, he was being all lovey-dovey with her. She doesn't want to trust him for the second time.

For some reason, she refused to believe that it was because of the ring that he has been abusive. She felt there was something more to it. And it's him. Even he didn't look like someone who lost his memories.

A person who lost his memories wouldn't act like that. He was not curious to know the things in the past. If he forgot his memories, then why didn't he ask about how their marriage was done?

How did he know they hadn't done the first day?

Yeah… it's common sense that he knew through the maids or servants. But… it wasn't the case. He said it on the day he woke up. She highly doubted his memory loss. She doesn't know how to confirm it.

"My Lady," the servants call, breaking her stupor. Lifting her head she looked at them.

"Are you done?" Adira asked.

"Yes, My Lady," Maid Chelsea said.

"Follow me then," Adira said.

When she entered their chambers she saw him pacing anxiously back and forth for some reason. She let the maids arrange the food and asked them to leave them alone.

"My Lord, dinner is ready," Adira informed him.

Zaros came out of his stupor hearing her call. He was so immersed in his thoughts that he stood still after seeing her enter the chambers with food. He still hasn't sorted out what to say or what to speak with her.

Her voice was soft, gentle, and tranquil which made him want to listen to her all the time. He stood numb as he looked at her moving and instructing the maids here and there.

"My Lord," Adira called again.

"I am coming," he said.

She nodded at him.

He sat down to have his food. "Don't you eat?" he asked.

Adira stiffened at his words. She came up with excuses saying that she wasn't hungry or some other thing in the past four or five days. After what he did to her, she never dared to eat in front of him. And she doesn't want to eat in front. She would rather eat alone. So she gave excuses that she wasn't hungry or she had already or some other thing. But now… she was tired of giving excuses.

She shall tell this on his face. How could she not tell this to the man who made her suffer?

"You can have your food, My Lord," she said with a gentle smile which was an obvious lie to him.

Zaros noticed her stiffening the moment he asked the question.

How could he not?

It's all because of him. He was the one who taunted her whenever he saw her eating. She even stopped drinking tea in front of him.

"Would you eat with me?" he asked, gulping down the memory lane of his horrible actions towards her as he gathered a little courage.

"Have your food, My Lord. No need to worry about me," she said with a straight face that scared him.

She was always gentle, kind, and smiling. He wondered what was wrong with her today. He wanted to know what made her act rude towards him. For some reason, he felt warning bells ring in his head.

He felt like he has no right to ask her to move ahead in his life with her. No… he has to! She was his wife! And will be his wife. He has to make amends with her.

" How can I? You are my wife. I need to take care of you. Sit down and have food," he said with a gentle smile that shocked her for a second.

Soon, she recovered from her shock. It's all a pretense. He was pretending. For what?

Was it another approach to make her spill secrets about her race?

It could be possible. Her gaze hardened at the thought. The shock on her face was replaced with coldness.

"You don't need to. Some maids can take care of me. Don't worry and ruin your health for me," she said with a poisonous smile that made his heart clench at her words.

"They are maids, after all, not me. Let me do my job," he said with a smile. He hoped to see some small reaction from her but he didn't. Her smile only grew bigger as she looked at him.

"They are closer to me than you, My Lord," she said, stabbing his heart with her words.

"But I am your husband," he said with a cold voice.

"Yeah, the one who left the altar saying that it's better to die than marry," she said with a snicker.

Zaros was shocked at her words. He doesn't know why she was saying this. He very well knew that he never said that. Then why was she saying this?

He recalled her behavior from the moment she entered the room. Her gaze was calculative and kind of loathing. Every word she said was excruciating with coldness.

Was she doubting his memory loss?

It looks that way. She doesn't look as innocent as she does.

Maybe he was giving it away too much. He needs to make it right.

His look turned into a heartbreak from shock.

"D-did I r-re-really say that?" he asked with disbelief and utter shock in his voice.
