New Student

Janna's POV:

Two weeks have already passed since Sophia became the Student Council President and our very own Class President. I guess that's too much for me to handle if it was me. But because of the energy and optimism that Sophia has, it's just a cinch to accomplish. Because she's busy for the last few weeks, Elaine and I weren't able to be with her during our break time. It's either she's in the Student Council Office to finish some paperworks or she's together with Prince in the Faculty Room because of the teachers' summons. Currently, lunch break is ongoing and Elaine and I just finished eating without Sophia by our side. I think she's in the Student Council Office again to fix some arrangements on the transfer student's record. There are rumors going around the school recently that today is the day that the transfer student will be coming to our school. I'm kinda looking forward to meet him today. I wonder what kind of person he is. Well, before wondering about that, I guess it's more appropriate to ask if whether he's a boy or a girl...

Not too long, the school bell rang and Sophia, together with Lance and Shakira entered the classroom. Sophia went in front and caught all of our attentions.

"I think most of you are already aware about the transfer student coming today. He will be starting to have his classes here in this school starting this afternoon so I'd like all of you to welcome him warmly and make him feel at ease. Please come in, Mr. Burton."

All of our classmates went silent and looked sharply at the door waiting for the transfer student to show up his face. A tall with slim body slowly entered the quiet classroom and all of the girls blushed out of entrancement.

"Introduce yourself Mr. Burton."

"Hello everyone. I am Bill Burton. I hope we'll get along well."

"Mr. Burton, you can sit beside Ms. Atkinson. The girl who is sitting beside the window."

The guy who gives off a fierce vibe walked towards the available seat beside me and looked at me for a moment. Then he bowed to me as if he's saying to take care of him nicely. But I think he's really scary though... He didn't even smile in front earlier when he's introducing himself.

I am still in awe when Sophia suddenly interrupted the awkward silence in the classroom.

"Ok then, let's proceed to our activity for today. Ms. Ross took a leave today because her son is in the hospital due to a car accident and she needs to take care of him for the meantime. I'm sorry to disappoint you but she left an activity for us to do."

Our classmates suddenly sighed and whispered to each other how despondent they were because of the bad news Sophia told us.

"Prince, can you help me pass on these worksheets to our classmates?"

"Of course, Sophia."

While Prince is handing out the papers to each one of us, Sophia is clearly explaining what the activity is all about.

"Our lesson for today is 'Thesis'. According to our teacher's instruction, we will have an activity by pair. Our pair will be our seatmate. You will choose carefully on what topic you are going to use. You must consider these things: "Is it important to our society?", "Will this benefit the individuals?" and "How can we resolve the issues revolving around it?" You can choose who is going to do the reporting and who is going to do the researching. You can have the remaining minutes to think what you and your partner are going to do."

After Sophia's explanation, she already sat down and talked to Prince who will be her pair for this activity.

Ok... This is a really awkward situation for me. Should I start the conversation or... Nah... I think I'll let him talk to me first.

He poked my shoulder and said...

"Umm... Hello. Nice to meet you, Ms. Atkinson. I think we're supposed to be starting the activity now or else we might ran out of time."

"Oh, I'm sorry. You're right. Then shall we get onto it?"

"Yeah."

I think he's not that scary... I can feel that he actually has a hidden side and it's the opposition of what I see on him outside.

The activity went through without any hitch and in the end, Bill and I decided that he will do the reporting and I will do the researching. He is actually pretty considerate despite how he looks. He considered my being bashful and proposed that he will be the one who will report our activity. That saves me from trouble. Well, he is actually... A nice guy...

The class has ended and some of my classmates already went home. Sophia doesn't have any Student Council duties today so we will be able to go home together. I am fixing my things and packing up my bag when suddenly a gentle voice talked to me.

"See you tomorrow, Ms. Atkinson. Good job earlier."

I was astounded when I saw that Bill is the one talking to me. I didn't expect him to talk to me again.

"Uh... Y-yeah. S-see you t-tomorrow!"

Bill smiled at me and nodded as he went away from me.

Did I just stuttered? I just stuttered, didn't I? Oh no, why is my heart beating so fast? And what am I being flustered all about? I can feel that my face us turning red. No, I don't want my friends to see this embarassing me. Is this what they call "Love"?
