The temple of shadows

I could still feel the pain as I came back to me. I seem to have lost consciousness for quite some time, as I could hear the sound of some people gathering around me and there I could even hear cars and the busy city again.

It seemed like everything was just a dream, because if it wasn't, why would there be people gathering around me shouldn't they all be dead if that wasn't the case?

I came to the conclusion that, I must have been wandering the streets, while sleeping. There wasn't any other logical reason I could think of, so this must be the truth.

I slowly opened my eyes and looked around me. I could see how there were five people next to me looking at me weirdly.

I slowly stood up and tried to sneak away, as I wanted to forget about this embarrassing moment as fast as possible. Luckily, it seemed like all these five normal looking people were in a daze.

I looked back at the people, while going away, as I could see something bizarre. Right in front of me was some kind of blue window, it is as if it would have come straight from some video game.

I looked at it and could see:

This seemed to be some kind of status window, but does this mean I actually died at that time and I am now in a completely different world with some kind of strong system or cheat?

I couldn't understand, why I would be able to see this „status window", as I looked at the window a limitless bit more intense. I just couldn't understand some things. For example, how could have changed my last name from Noctis to Shadow? Is this my new name in this world, or something?

Another thing, I didn't understand was, what this title, „chosen of the shadows", meant. Or how I could already have two skills without having done anything yet. Or how this system with ranks works, like how one of my skills is ranked: 10th, but what does this even mean. Is it powerful?

I didn't think about it much longer as I finally went home, to get some more rest. Luckily it seemed like in this world everything is exactly the same as in my previous one, all the buildings are the same and even the people were the same. This made me wonder, if this really was a different world, maybe it was just some kind of parallel world.

I just couldn't believe that I survived this beam of light, without any injuries at all, so this at least had to be a parallel universe/world.

As I finally came to my little house that was at one outer corner of the city, I could see my nice neighbors, that helped me in one of the worst parts of my life. I greeted them and went inside.

I was kinda exhausted, but I knew, I wouldn't be able to sleep without having tried, how my skills would work. All my skills seemed to be related to shadows, was what i thought before looking down and being surprised for a second. Under my feet I could see a shadow, but it wasn't the shadow of me, as it was in the form of a square. It seemed rather weird and was definitely some kind of sign or something. But this wasn't enough to scare me away from trying my skills.

The first thing I tried was, [Absorbing Shadow], but nothing happened. I was a little disappointed in this one, but maybe it would just need some condition to be activated.

Afterwards, I tried my second skill, [Shadow walk], and just as I activated it, I sank into the ground. Slowly but surely, this definitely meant I was to bad at controlling this skill yet, but this also meant I may die now. I screamed for my life as I slowly went deeper and deeper into the weird shadow under my feet.

I couldn't feel my feet anymore, as they vanished into this shadow of mine. I couldn't do anything to save me. I even tried to grab onto a table standing right next to me, to save myself. But nothing worked, I still sank deeper and deeper, until I vanished completely into my shadow, that somehow didn't change as there wasn't even enough of my body left to bring down such a big shadow of half a square meter.

As I was inside my shadow, I couldn't trust my eyes, in front of me was some really big building. It seemed to pierce through the sky. Around it, I could see really really many shadow like creatures, that seemed to be connected with me somehow. I didn't know what to say, as I looked at this magnificent "temple", was what I would call it, as it kinda resembled temples, as how they were back on earth...
