First real battle !! 1 Vs 3
For some unknown reason adam felt he was obliged to save the archer girl, he couldn't just ignore her, even though it wasn't his duty to save her.. he knew this very well.. she was the only one to blame for her misfortune, maybe it was the man instincts to help women who are in danger! or maybe he simply didn't want to see three unholy giant zombie wolves tearing apart a crying young girl!
Again .. he knew this world was harsh, he can't save everybody !! that was wishful thinking, but he decided he won't turn a blind eye on any innocent in distress, he used to have a family too after all.. but he wasn't a saint, he won't hesitate to kill humans who aren't innocent.. those who collaborated with darkness or tried to do him any harm won't live to see the next day.
traversing the forest while he was lost in thought, he suddenly came to a screeching halt, his body tensed and could clearly feel danger in the way ahead... his senses were sharper then before, and he could read them and understand them more clearly, his danger sense was like a new sense to him, and like a newborn child, he was gradually getting the hang of it...
looking around him carefully, he could see that the area ahead was a dead end, a high ground that ended with a steep cliff, the smell of blood was unmistakably thick and broken twigs and branches .. and also the torn uneven bushes was a sure indication of a fresh battle... the place wasn't an open space because the vegetation here was too thick... that's why he advanced slowly and carefully... then what he expected came to pass, a dead young human male was there on the ground half-eaten, he could tell the man didn't fight back but was killed in his escape, how pathetic, adam didn't bate an eyelid when he saw him, he was just regretful because the loser didn't have any valuable gear or equipment on him, except for a rusted short sword which adam didn't bother even to look at, the youth was one of nana party members, those who set up the girl and used her as a bait, dying while escaping and not fighting made adam more disdainful and less sad over his death, adam was just a human being after all, seeing death in the eyes would always put some sadness into his heart....
adam became more careful now because he recalled what nana told him when she was talking about her party members, there were eight monsters, all of them unholy moreover they were flocking together!? this was Impossible, unholy monsters were a troublesome bunch, especially low ranked ones, there was no way they would co-operate any day of the year...
he prepared his axe, chain, bombes, if he was right then dark cults have something to do with this, these bastards wouldn't say no when easy prey is in the open, it wasn't from the good of his heart, but it was his mission, he needed to prevent this at all costs, if his conjecture was true then this is just the beginning....
when adam was close to the cliff nana fell off from, he felt eyes on him, several pairs of them were hungrily eying him, and for a moment there, there was another watcher, he would swear he felt a more intelligent stare, one that gave off grudge, trickery, and murder intent, it then just vanished ...
scanning the surroundings he tried to memorize every detail he could about the terrain, and run some simulations in his head of what he can do or use in certain dire situations... he noticed a huge tree not too far to his left, it was like a wooden three metres wide wall, so he ran for it... seeing that he suddenly moved the wolves showed themselves, they jumped out of the bushes, and gave chase not wanting to let their meal escape.... while he was running his cover he saw the other party member, the man was totally eaten, only some bones and clothes remained, at least this one died fighting, he was a fire-mage, adam could tell from the dead half-burned wolf besides him, sigh** they overwhelmed him and then his 'supposed' tank 'that loser young swordsman' escaped leaving him vulnerable, the mage killed one wolf though, so he got some skill, how regretful, if they tried to fight their way out, it might've worked.... i guess the young swordsman was the leader... and he doomed them with his selfishness and incompetence...the coward... but it was somehow their fault too, adventurers must be a good judge of power and character...
when adam reached the big tree ,three unholy wolves were on his heels, but these three were nothing like the previous ones, they were bigger and faster...
turning his body around he was facing them, while his back was towards the big tree
[unholy dire wolf ]: level 2 ...
analyzing one of them confirmed his suspicions, the situation will be more dangerous this time ....
He won't shy away from fights just because he was out leveled, he can cross the one level gap, it wasn't too much for him.. no yet ..
the first wolf to reach attacking range jumped at adam with its huge mow open, the move was simple and telegraphed, but the other two wolves were already on his flanks from both sides almost at attacking range, so adam didn't want to risk it, he won't gamble on being able to kill the wolf that was attacking him from the front instantly, so he side-stepped the attack and counter-attacked with a lightning fast and shocking uppercut, for the wolf the attack was too sudden, it came out of nowhere and was so fast.. the wolf yelped helplessly and fell awkwardly on its back stunned
" unholy dire wolf -level 2- is stunned for 3 second "
seeing the notification adam grimaced.. it was shorter then expected ... seems it has something to do with the level difference but that will do for the moment ....
adam jumped back for several meters, his back not even an inch from the tree, and was immediately attacked from two sides ... three seconds didn't feel too much but he has increased his winning chances by at least twice, the two wolves were on the attack before they registered what happened to their third ally, the one on the left slashed with its gigantic menacing right claws horizontally clearly intending to cleave him in half, while the other one jumped and smashed its paw down towards adam's head.. barely jumping over the horizontal slash... adam met the descending paw head-on.. the unique shaped axe was going up, its sharp edge facing the sky, the slash from the other wolf passed under his feet, then came the impact, adam indeed felt a jolt in his arm and axe but he prevailed in this exchange, the wolf was thrown back, its paw injured and out of balance it howled trying to get back on its feet, but it felt something on its back leg, a cold shinning chain, with a strong pull, the wolf was out of balance again...disrupting the beast balance, adam didn't get to attack it because the one on his left was again attacking, barely two seconds passed... but he needed to cut down the numbers, with a swing of his axe he met the wolf head on, this time he feinted a frontal attack but dodged in the last moment, and slashed at the side of its body, once, dodged again and then slashed again, the wolf was barely alive after two gaping wounds were carved into its sides, his ribes showing ... (more then before at least) blue blood oozed out like a fountain....
looking around him adam could see the wolf he stunned at first running towards him, looking back he was assured he still has the tree behind him, the chained wolf also gained its balance and started pulling the chain, it was holding adam down for its ally to kill him, adam smirked, these sacks of bones and meat has some brains, well .. why not let's play along... pretending he was in a pulling contest against the other wolf, he kept his eyes and senses around him, the wolf was in striking range in no time, it opened its jaw to bite down his head... he played panicked until the last moment, when the wolf thought it won...adam clicked a small switch at the bottom of his axe releasing the chain....the other wolf that was pulling it lost balance and was thrown several meters back .... adam dodged the wolf attacking him in the last split second, and attacked the head directly, a crashing sound was heard, and the system notification confirmed it, but he didn't stop to check it out, pulling out a round black bomb from his inventory he threw it on the last standing chained wolf, it was actually escaping, taking the chain with him, but it suddenly lost its sight, the strong light burned its eyes.... and before long ... its head was spinning in the air... the last wolf was already injured... if it wasn't an unholy beast it would have died long time ago....but that's it, it couldn't do anything in its state
like always people tend to forget obvious things when under pressure, these beasts surely gave him a hard time, you have to know that they were huge, taller then him!!
after killing the last wolf ... adam remembered something and slapped his face, how did he forgot about his new nomad shield ??? it was a strong piece of equipment, if he used it he wouldn't had to go through all this hardship .... but maybe it was for the best, he learned today that he can't walk the forest unhindered.. this was a real battle he has today, his first real battle of life and death, the wolves were strong stupid and simple but had some strategy and experience, they didn't reach level 2 dragging their asses around the forest apparently, but he felt somewhat thrilled... his heart rate was still fast!! and the feeling of crushing bones and tearing flesh, was still on his hand and axe, it was strangely satisfying ...
