Chapter 19: Hangman

Oliver's POV:

I watched as Harper tore the heart out of that man and continued to take a bite out of it. I've never seen a vampire do that before, it could very well be a werewolf thing but I'm not sure. As she whispered, "Would you look at that...flipped!" I immediately knew she flipped her switch. I couldn't tell if it was because she was embarrassed, ashamed, or mad. I grabbed her arm just as she tried fleeing the building. I looked into her eyes, trying to find a shred of any humanity in her. But Harpers eyes were as cold as the night outside. She yanked her arm from my grasp and ran away. I shook my head and turned to Eliza as I said, "She's gone." Eliza rolled her eyes and replied, "Be more obvious, Ollie!" I stared at Eliza with a serious face and said, "No. Harper's gone!" My dear sister finally understood what I meant and we rushed into the Compound. However, we were both shocked to see Harper with a man suspended in the air by a rope around his neck. Michael, his witch, and Elliot were just watching, knowing they couldn't stop her. I ran up to her and asked, "Harper, what are you doing?" She turned to me, smiled, and replied, "I'm playing a friendly game of hangman. It was my favorite to play with Penelope and Elliot as a child." I tried to go release the man from the rope but it was no use, he was already on the verge of death! Harper yelled out to Michael and Elliot, "Okay, first letter anyone?" Michael hesitated and called out, "We aren't playing your stupid game Harper!" She rolled her eyes and exhaled dramatically as she turned to them and said, "Yes you are. Or I'll put a ticking time bomb on your life!" Her wolf fangs were out and Michael took a step back and said, "Fine, uhh- E." Harper smiled wrote it on a piece of paper with four empty spaced in front and one behind. "Next letter!" She yelled. Elliot spoke up this time and said, "A!" She laughed and began by yanking the arm off the man suspended from the ceiling. Everyone jumped. Harper then spoke up, "I'll slowly remove a part from his body every time you say the wrong letter. Now keep em coming!" Eliza game the letter 'L' this time. Now on the paper was "_L_ _ E_" After that Michael guessed 'M' Another arm was pulled from the body! Eliza guesses 'I' Harper wrote it on the paper. "_L I_E_" I was starting to understand the word. Elliot called out, "How about an R?" Harper smirked and wrote it down. "_L I_E R" I spoke up and said, "It says Oliver!" Harper raised her eyebrows, impressed. Then she said, "Congratulations Oliver! You won the game. Here's your prize..." She ran over to me in a heartbeat. I had no time to process until after the damage was done. Harper bit me! I grunted in pain as Harper stood back, wiping my blood from her mouth with a smile. I glared at her and yelled, "What has gotten into you!" Her face was now serious as she said, "Huh. And I thought you were the smart one, yet you can't even figure why I'm doing this." I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion as she continued with tears running down her face, "I didn't flip my switch, Oliver! And you're lucky I didn't, you saw what I just did with it on, imagine if it was flipped. And I'm not very far from doing it either!" I took a few steps closer to Harper and said in a lower tone, "What do you want me to do then? I don't know what you want from me!" In shaky voice she replied, "Yes you do. You don't think I heard your conversation about not being able to give me what I want? Well guess what, you are what I want Oliver! I just want you to admit it." As a tear dropped from my eyes I said, "You want me to admit what? That I love you? That every day since I laid eyes on you five years ago I couldn't stop thinking about you? That I'm so crazy about you that I'd do anything for you? That I can watch you tear someone apart and still look at you and love you the way I always have? Is that what you want to hear!" Harper stared at me for awhile until she ran over to me and said, "Drink." I moved the hair falling down her neck and bit into it. After I felt healed I pulled away and stared at her for awhile. Harper put her hands on my neck and said, "That is what I wanted to hear!" Then she leaned in and kissed me! I wrapped my arms around her waist and for a long time our lips just melted together. When she pulled away she whispered, "I love you!" I smiled and replied, "You know I love you too!" And for that moment, even though both our family was in the room, it felt as if we were the only ones! I can't imagine my life without Harper anymore...
