20 | Christmas

Christmas was always an uncelebrated holiday in the Luthor household. Her mother had claimed it was 'pointless' and 'a waste of money' even though they were literal billionaires but she was forced to listen anyway.

Lex still bought her gifts though much to Lillian's disapproval. From old cars in need of restoration — which Lena loved to fix — to robot building manuals. She loved to get her hands dirty and doing some good old fashioned tinkering, something sorely missed ever since she had taken on the mantle of CEO.

Then he spiralled off the deep end and tried to kill Superman.

His presents turned into bombs, threats and assassination attempts, his hatred for his sister clear. Lena felt completely and utterly alone.

This year she had been invited to stay with Eliza in Midvale, much to Lena's surprise. They were on a walk through the park, breathing in the cold winter air with Lena curling into Kara's side for her warmth.

"It'll be fun Lena! Please?" Kara tugged on her hand gently and gave her the most adorable puppy eyes. How could she ever say no?

"Of course I'll come," Lena chuckled and shook her head at her cuteness. "I'm guessing Alex is bringing Maggie?"

"Yep!" Kara replied popping the 'p'. "We'll be leaving tomorrow by train," she added before realisation dawned on her face. "Oh Rao I just realised this is totally last minute but it's totally okay if you don't want to come—"

"Honestly it's fine Kara," Lena cut her babbling off and Kara gave her a look of relief, "We're going."

"Okay good because I already told Eliza so..." the blonde blurted out in one go and released Lena's hand to push her glasses up, fidgeting with the frame. She had spoken so fast she had to strain her ears to process what she had just spewed.

Chuckling at her girlfriend's nervous ticks she took her hand back and laced their fingers together. "You were nervous about this?" Lena asked with a smile of complete adoration.

"Yeah..." Kara mumbled and slightly shrugged as her cheeks were tinted with a faint blush.

Lena's heart swelled with happiness and kissing her softly on the cheek. "You're so cute," She teased earning a smile from the other as they continued to walk along the park's path.

The grass was covered in frost, the pond was frozen over with a thick layer of ice and some small children were playing on it, laughing happily when they fell.

"Hey, you alright?" Kara murmured softly into her ear, "You kinda spaced out?"

In truth, Lena hadn't really thought of Christmas too much over the years, always focused on digging the Luthor name out of the mud after what her brother and her so-called mother had done. People constantly judging her because of her last name.

Watching the kids have so much fun on the ice reminded her of a childhood she couldn't have.

"Yeah, I'm fine..." Lena said slowly. "It's just..." she began to trail off, words semi-lodged in her throat.

"Why? What is it?" Kara looked at her, face filled with concern and a crinkle between her eyebrows.

Lena chuckled softly. "Oh no it's nothing serious, it's just that I haven't really celebrated Christmas since I was adopted into the Luthor family..." she explained with a sad smile and looked over at the other woman who returned it.

"Well you're going to feel right at home," the blonde smiled brightly and released Lena's hand to cup her jaw before placing a soft kiss on her lips. She could feel the butterflies erupt in her stomach as soon as they had touched.

"I love you," the words tumbled out of Kara's mouth. Lena felt her chest warm with happiness and immediately slipped into a daze.

She immediately took Kara's face back and kissed the Kryptonian with as much force and feeling as she could, feeling Kara smile into the kiss and her heart beating wildly in her chest under Lena's palm like a drum.

"I love you too," Lena said, a lopsided grin spreading across her face, "I love you so much, Kara Zor-El Danvers."

Her face immediately mimicked Lena's and hugged the shorter one tightly with Lena leaning into the soft, warm and strong body that was her girlfriend's.

They continued their walk hand-in-hand with Lena feeling indescribably happy and kept smiling for the whole walk until her jaw hurt.

"Kara, you're getting flour everywhere!" Lena yelped with an amused smile while trying to get the situation under control and laughed when Kara spilt even more flour on the counter.

"Whoops..." Kara muttered and scratched her head, "Eliza's going to throw a fit when she sees what we've done to her kitchen..." She tried to scoop the flour back in the bag while Lena chuckled heartedly at her klutzy girlfriend.

"Supergirl's real clumsy," Lena teased and playfully poked her arm causing a blush to colour her cheeks.

"Well that's your fault," Kara mumbled with a small smile and reached up her hand to fidget with her glasses.

"My fault?" Lena asked in a flirty tone, cocking her eyebrow making her blush even harder.

Kara chuckled nervously, "You're just so beautiful and uh... distracting—"

"You guys are so disgusting," a voice belonging to Alex Danvers burst into the room making them both jump.

"Oh leave them alone, Danvers, we were like that," Maggie's voice piped up, the woman herself walked in after Alex with a cheeky dimpled smile and kissed her cheek making the taller woman blush furiously, "We still are."

"Did you get the eggs?" Lena asked and walked over to the bags Alex had placed on the table.

"Yeah they're in there," Alex pointed her thumb at the bags. "Which oops, speaking of," she grimaced, "shouldn't have slammed it on the counter so hard." The redhead seemed to finally take in her surroundings, eyes widening at the marble counter. "Shit, there's so much mess in here, mom's going to kill you," she said before dipping her hand in the bag of flour, smirking.

"Alex," Maggie said slowly in a warning tone, "don't do what I think you're going to do." She slowly took a step back putting distance between her and the other woman.

"Alex, come on don't make more of a mess!" Kara groaned and made a move to grab the bag away from her sister but failing. Instead she had received a face-full of the flour and Lena couldn't help but laugh as she watched her splutter, trying to get rid of the powder in her eyes.

Alex then proceeded to take another handful of flour and flung it at Maggie who squealed.

Lena had never heard the woman squeal before.

Ever.

"I'm going to kill you, Danvers!" she shouted and made a lunge for the flour on the counter and armed herself.

Lena stood in the corner of the kitchen trying to avoid having ground wheat lobbed at her but also simultaneously laughing her head off.

"It's in my eyes, Sawyer!" Alex cried out and brought her hands up to wipe the flour away.

"Oh stop being so dramatic, Alex," Maggie teased and looked over at Lena with an evil grin, "You aren't getting away unscathed, little Luthor!"

Lena looked over at Kara for help but the blonde was also smiling devilishly along with her sister. "Oh no, I would like to avoid being pelted with flour today thank you very much," Lena declared and made an attempt to escape the kitchen.

Three handfuls of flour made its way through the air and made contact with Lena's face and hair. "Damn it guys, I just washed my hair yesterday!" she spluttered while trying to stop a smile from breaking free.

"Oh come on you're totally smiling," Kara pointed out before walking over to her side and wiping the flour away from her face.

"Gaaaaaaayyy," Alex and Maggie chorused and laughed.

"Yeah no shit," Lena shot back with a grin.

"What have you done to my kitchen?" Eliza asked with a slightly shocked look on her face as she walked in. "I don't see any cookies?"

Kara nervously scratched her neck and gave her a sheepish look, "Uh, we didn't get that far?"

Eliza chuckled, "I can see that. Why don't you clean up and take a shower, I'll make them and you can decorate them when you're done."

"Me first!" Alex shouted and raced off in the direction of the staircase.

"Hey no fair! I have short legs!" Maggie shouted as she followed.

"You can go shower first, I'll help Eliza," Lena said and stepped forward to take a dustpan to scoop up the flour on the floor.

"You sure?" Kara asked and Lena nodded in response, "Okay, I'll be quick," she pressed a quick kiss on her cheek and walked away.

It only took fifteen minutes to clean the kitchen up completely. After Lena had showered, four of them spent the next two hours making and decorating the sugar cookies.

"I can't believe it's Christmas tomorrow," Kara said while eating coloured icing out of a bowl.

"How much icing have you eaten Kara?" Lena asked and was given a sheepish look in return.

"Um, quite a bit?"

"Man, you have a diet of a five-year-old," Alex remarked and took the bowl away from her with a smug look before eating a spoonful and grimacing as she seemed to have realised how sweet it was.

"Hey!" Kara exclaimed, "I was eating that!"

"We're going to run out soon," Alex pointed out and then turned to look at Maggie's cookie, "Nice rainbow."

"Taste the rainbow," She remarked making Lena chuckle.

"I can taste it when I kiss you," Alex commented causing her to grin widely.

Kara leaned over and whispered, "They're so gross." They both looked over at the other couple who were now kissing and Kara pulls a face.

Lena turned back to face Kara and agreed. "We can be gross too," she pointed out and leaned in to close the gap to kiss the blonde and smiled when she kissed back.

"Ew, get a room," Alex interrupted and put on a fake disgusted face, pretending to gag with Maggie chuckling at her girlfriend's antics.

"Shut up," Kara grumbled with a faint blush on her cheeks but smiled when she looked at Lena.

"I love you guys," Lena couldn't help but blurt out with a wide grin.

She really did feel at home here.
