Chapter 3

A New survivor ?

As per the schedule created by him , the food should be served by Mei today but Gary was serving the food today .

This was strange and he soon remembered Clara words of a survivor awakening which made him immediately alarmed.

Something is wrong here !

Every survivors would follow the schedule strictly without missing it and Mei has a strict personality so she never missed her schedule before so he felt that Gary is upto something .

So he didn't touch the food instead he asked Gary about Mei in casual tone .

Gary smile froze for a moment but next moment it was replaced by the smile again .

"Boss . She is busy in helping others to distribute foods so I volunteered myself instead of her ."

"Oh.."

Ethan gave a small response with no expression . But deep down he felt that Gary is scheming something and he didn't know what was his motive !

Getting no response from Ethan made Gary smile fade away but he still recovered and said

"Boss is there any problem?"

Ethan looked at him and said with deep tone

"Nothing. You can leave now"

Gary nodded his head with his still wide smile and left the room . After a second Ethan who was looking at the door in close attention .

The hallway outside is too silent where when people walk their footsteps would sount out in loud noise but there was not a single footsteps sound which made him frown .

Gary didn't leave from here but instead he hid at the wall!

Ethan immediately became alert and looked at the container of food .

"Don't tell me there is poison in this food?"

If there is really a poison then it would be too disastrous for him if he ate it .

Thank god ! He was highly suspicious these days or else .

Thinking about this , he felt fear staying in this bunker but running wasn't a option here. First of all he have to confirm whether there is poison or not and second he has to make sure the survivors are not going to fight against each other.

"Ah this thing came in handy now "

He took the container and opened a small cupboard in his desk , revealing a mice licked in cage . Compared to other mice before apocalypse this mice has twice the size with sharp teeth and red eyes .

Even beasts mutated into terrifying creature when apocalypse arrived . So along with zombies , the mutated beasts was a great terror bringing too .

Ethan calmly fed a piece of meat to the mice and started to observe it keenly . The mice which was laying motionless immediately become agitated by the smell of meat .

It dashed at the meat and started eating quickly without any care . It didn't have any reaction but after a few second the mice which was about to clear the last remaining meat piece , had a terrifying change .

Its grey skin become purplish visible to Naked eye . Soon the mice rolled in pain and its lifeless body laid inside the cold cage.

Ethan heart become cold seeing the mice lying dead from poisoning. He was indeed right about Gary , that person who was always act kind and smile frequently was nothing but a backstabber who always hide his true emotions well.

"It's look like Gary is not the only one who wants me dead huh?"

One of the survivor is awakened and this is bad news for him . But it wouldn't be bad if that person is still loyal to me or one of my people but if the awakened is not my man or other who had other thought .

Ethan sat down thinking heavily about his next action , when someone voice disturbed him from outside the door.

"Hey Gary what are you doing in outside of the boss office?"

Someone exposed Gary who was hiding behind the wall and it's look like this person voice is somewhat familiar.

The crippled John!

"It's him!"

John was a new survivor who joined their group and he was a cripple who had lost his feelings of right hand but this person had a high talent in mechanical field so much that he bragged that he repaired over thousand cars by himself.

He was 50 year old or less ! So most people believed him blindly .

Gary who was trying hard to hear something from Ethan office , froze hearing someone calling his name.

'Im exposed'

But outside his face was still that of a honest and sincere smiling face . He didn't shown any panic or other anxious expression but instead he said naturally as usual

"Oh ... nothing much . I was just checking on whether the boss had his food or not . What about you john ?"

John frowned first but he replied after some hesitation

"I'm here to inform boss that there is a gathering for the awakened celebration at hall."

Gary eyes narrowed for a moment but he nodded and left away without saying anything.

John looked at the departing figure of the Gary in serious face . He shook his head at the next moment and knocked the door of Ethan .

"Boss can I come in?"

Inside a deep voice was heard by him .

"Come in"

Hearing this John entered the room and first thing he noticed was the untouched food container .

John didn't think too much about it , so he looked at Ethan and said slowly

"Boss everyone hosted a celebration for the awakened person in he hall . Please visit us and give us a toast !"

Ethan didn't disagree instead he asked another question

"Who is the one awakened?"

John voice was now filled with envy saying that person name

"Boss it's .... Samuel"

Ethan hand trembled hearing this name but after some second he controlled it and said slowly to John

"Well then . I will be there"

John didn't say anything but instead left . But before going he suddenly turned around and said with cold voice

"Boss there is a rumour that mei has a gun with her since she is working in police department before ...."

As he said he left without waiting for Ethan response. But the news he gave was too big for Ethan to digest it .

He had only one thing constantly ringing in his mind .

"Mei has a gun...."

"Mei has a gun...."

"Mei has a gun...."

Is it a disaster or a hope ?
