Stepping in Moonlight
Sarah's heart raced as the echo of the scream faded into the darkness. Her hands trembled, and she gripped Max's arm tightly. "Did you hear that?" she whispered, her voice barely a breath, filled with fear and urgency.
Max nodded, his gaze hard and focused. "Stay close. We don't know what's out there." He pulled her closer, his protective stance giving her a small sense of comfort despite the terror that gripped her heart.
They began moving, keeping low and sticking to the shadows as they crept through the forest. The air was thick, carrying the scent of damp earth and something sharper, something that made Sarah's skin prickle with dread. Every rustling leaf, every snapping twig seemed louder in the stillness around them.
