Chapter 4 Broke Off the Engagement

Maggie's attitude was a bit too cold, so Braxton was slightly embarrassed. But he still smiled and said kindly, "Don't think too much. I will help you."

"That's true, Maggie," a girl who was about her age next to her said with a smile. "Our family is different from the one you stayed at before. Since my father says that you can be cured, it will be true."

The girl's tone was gentle, but when she looked at Maggie, she showed an undisguised sense of superiority.

"Maggie, this is my wife, and this is your cousin, Capri, who is one year older than you." Braxton pointed to the girl who spoke just now and an elegantly dressed middle-aged woman.

The middle-aged woman's expression was indifferent, and she slightly pursed her lower lip at Maggie. Her attitude was indifferent and perfunctory, while Capri Adams showed a sense of superiority. Her eyes fell on Maggie's clothes and sneakers unabashedly.

"Grandpa, what is Maggie wearing? I still have a lot of clothes in my room. I will give them to Maggie later."

Carson glared at Capri and then turned to look at Maggie.

"Maggie, go into the house with me. It's hot outside."

Maggie nodded but calmly withdrew her hand.

Carson was taken aback for a moment. Thinking that Maggie had been away for so many years and just returned, it was normal for her not to be close to him. So he just sighed lightly and said nothing.

Louis originally planned to leave after picking up Maggie and sending her back.

"Louis, come in and have a cup of tea," Carson said.

Louis was just about to refuse, but Maggie, who had been silent all this time, also turned to look at him with clear eyes.

Louis changed his mind and said softly, "Okay."

The servants brought the tea, and all kinds of desserts and fruits were on the table.

Carson pulled Maggie to sit down and pushed the fruit toward her. "Maggie, eat some fruit."

Maggie was indeed thirsty, so she picked up a grape and put it in her mouth.

Carson was overjoyed when he saw this, and then he was sad for a moment. "Maggie, you love grapes just like your father."

Maggie paused slightly when she heard the words. Then, she raised her eyes to look at Carson and then typed on her mobile phone.

[Can I see some pictures of my dad?]

Carson was taken aback but still said, "I'll get them for you in a few days."

"Huh, weren't Uncle Berg's photos all burnt before?" Capri muttered aside.

"Capri!" Braxton reprimanded in a low voice.

Capri stuck out her tongue and kept her mouth shut.

Maggie's eyelashes drooped slightly. Her eyes were still calm and devoid of emotion, but she put down the grape.

She wondered what had happened to her parents back then.

Why did they sever ties with the Adams family after she was missing? And why did they both die in a car accident?

Louis was sitting on the other side, drinking tea calmly all the time, but his eyes fell on Maggie opposite from time to time.

"Louis."

Capri leaned closer to Louis, unable to hide her feelings.

Louis' expression was cold, and he didn't look at her at all.

Capri bit her lip, looked at Maggie angrily, and spoke deliberately.

"Grandpa, since Maggie is back, and Louis is also here today, why don't you ask Maggie if she is willing to be engaged to Louis?"

Carson was drinking tea. When he heard this, he glanced at Maggie before his eyes.

The marriage contract between Maggie and Louis was set by the two families when they were little.

Berg Adams was best friends with Louis' father, so Maggie got engaged to the then seven-year-old Louis when she was still in her mother's belly. However, something happened later. Maggie was missing. After so many years, some things changed.

And the Noble family mentioned the engagement more than once, meaning they wanted to call it off.

"Maggie."

Carson looked at Maggie and said gently, "Do you want me to break off this engagement?"
