Da morte was a sorcerer type of spell binder. A sorcerer spell binder could practise the other types of spell binding: element casting, telepathy, and telekinesis. Added to that, a sorcerer could do more.
Spell binders' bodies could cultivate qi, which helps evolve their bodies. The evolution of their bodies determines the power of their mystic prowess.
The spell binders' evolved bodies came in three tiers. The Lettuce-qi-body was the lowest tier, the Qi-stone-body was the intermediate, and the Spirit body was the highest.
Spell binders evolved from ordinary bodies to those body tiers. Da Morte was at the Lettuce-Qi-body tier.
The Demon pets had evolutionary levels that were similar to the element casters' levels. But the levels were called grades. The grade scale was from 1 to 10.
Demon pets in Grades 1 to 4 were categorised as the "Normal" class. Those in grades 5 to 8 were categorised as the "Noble" class. Those in Grades 9 and 10 were referred to as "King" class demon pets.
When a demon pet was killed by a spell binder, there was a 50-50 chance that the soul of the dead demon pet would be earned by the killer spell binder or the soul would dissipate into qi energy.
Even though a dead demon pet's soul was earned by a spell binder, the soul still retains its grade.
Element spell binders could integrate with the earned souls of demon pets. But the soul must be a matching element. This rule didn't apply to sorcerer spell binders because they could bend any element.
The condition for any spell binder to safely merge with the souls of the demon pets was that their qi bodies must be strong enough.
Lettuce-qi-body spell binders could amalgamate with only normal class demon pets' souls. Anything higher than that would damage their bodies or kill them instantly. Qi-stone-body spell binders could only integrate with king-class souls. Souls in the higher class had a high probability of killing them and a low probability of damaging their bodies.
This condition was what brought about the damage incurred by Da Morte.
Ordinary body spell binders couldn't merge with any grade of demon pets' souls. Their systems wouldn't allow it. But for spell binders with evolved qi bodies, their systems would allow integration of inconveniently classed demon pets' souls.
Da Morte was still lying with his back on the ground. He watched the cloudless sky while his dantian automatically cultivated qi. At the moment, he felt a lot better because his injuries were all healed. But he still felt fatigued because he had not fully recovered his energy.
In the deep centre of the hill, a creature meditated and cultivated qi. Suddenly, its eyes opened. The creature's eyes bred a red hue.
On the top of the hill, Da Morte sat up on red alert. He stretched his arms forward and a transparent force shield ball enveloped him. A slithering mass of fire which moved at high speed slammed into the force shield. The force shield was undone by the impact, but Da Morte was inert to the impact.
The undoing of his force shield frightened him. He cursed loudly, "What the f**k!" Then he rebuilt the force shield ball before the speeding, slithering, mass of fire came around and slammed into it again.
Again, the force shield was undone by the impact. He quickly rebuilt the force shield and the same thing happened again. He kept on going, and the slithering mass of fire kept on attacking. They went on for ten minutes.
Then, the slithering mass of fire increased its momentum and slammed into the force shield. This time, the impact threw Da Morte few metres away. Da Morte didn't waste time groaning. Instead, he put himself in a half-kneel action-ready pose.
The slithering mass of fire was slowly approaching him. As it approached, the flames condensed to form a creature. The creature was a bulky seven-foot-tall Mouse Willow. He correctly guessed that the creature was the leader of the Mouse Willow herd he massacred minutes ago.
He knew he was in real danger. He judged that by the attack method used by this humongous Mouse willow, the creature must be at least a Grade 9 King Class demon pet. He felt that the creature was sizing him up. The creature was being cautious in case he was a powerful opponent.
Unfortunately, he wasn't powerful. The situation was like a straw about to be burned by a flaming torch. Da Morte was that straw. For him to have a chance at being alive, he had to make his ultimate move: the devastating qi surge blast.
The devastating Qi surge blast was peculiar to sorcerer spell binders. The sorcerer turned off every physiological function in their body in order to transform them into an aggressive qi-pulling black hole. Their consciousness was an exception, but the range of being conscious was limited. The sorcerer's consciousness could only be focused on attacking the opponent and no other thing.
Making the body like a black hole to pull in qi was very fast. It took about 5 seconds to pool in thirty million volts of qi energy.
The amount of qi that can be pooled in within the 5 seconds was dependent on the sorcerer's qi potential.
The millions of volts of qi energy gathered in the dantian would be redirected and condensed into an attack form: a sword, ball, or any object desired.
Da Morte was renowned for having high qi potential. His qi potential could rival that of the Dark Lord.
He initiated the devastating qi surge blast. An explosive gush of wind emanated from his body, which shook the whole scene. The red hue in the eyes of the Mouse Willow changed to blue. At the same time, the wind gusted towards Da Morte. The Mouse Willow looked around uneasily, sensing an enormous amount of qi being drawn towards him along with the wind.
Blood leaked from his nostrils in the qi gathering process. It was because he had a lettuce body.
The mouse willow was an experienced fighter who had fought a variety of powerful spellbinders and weak ones. The cautious Mouse Willow could tell after observing the method Da Morte wanted to use and attack it and the trickle of blood from his nose that he was a weak opponent. It morphed into a slithering mass of fire, but this time everything combustible on the scene caught fire.
The Mouse Willow was about to charge at Da Morte but changed its mind when it saw the condensed qi energy spears that floated in the air and were aimed at it.
While pooling the qi, he summoned and integrated with the Mouse Willow fire spirit. He did it so that he could have almost all his consciousness back. Being integrated with a demon pet soul required full consciousness.
Also, the damaging effects of merging with a high-class demon pet soul couldn't happen to him because his body was currently like a galaxy of qi.
