Chapter 27: A Good Time To Smile Again

I got back home and parked my car at the garage, looking so tired and stressed out but I was not hungry because I already ate something at the restaurant.

I went straight to my room and on my way there, I had an encounter with my mom who looked so worried by her facial expression.

"Where have you been, you got me damn worried"- She asked

I didn't want to tell her where I went to so I simply remained quiet and pretended as if I didn't hear a single word

"Where are you coming from young man"- She asked looking so serious at this point

"I went to the cinema to watch a movie and by the way, why can't I leave the house without being questioned all the time. Am I too young to go out or what?"- I asked looking so angry

She sensed that I wasn't happy with her unnecessary questions, so she simply walked passed me to the living room. She is giving me a tough time in the house and I just wish I could move out.

Perhaps I shouldn't worry much because I will soon be out of this city and this house for good

"Well, start making your preparations, you will be traveling to Nigeria next week Friday. Your father has already prepared your documents, your official car and your office"- She said while walking straight to the living room

Her words hit me directly like a bomb and I didn't even know how to react, but I guess I don't need to bother myself anymore because I will be out of this place by Monday.

Perhaps they will invoke my spirit and send it to Nigeria, what nonsense. I walked straight to my room without even replying her last words

I felt so weak and all I could think off was a beauty slumber, I am too tired to even take my bath. What a day

I laid down on the bed and shut my eyes

.......

....

I woke up around 12am in the night and I felt quite relieved, I gently walked to my television and switched on my ps4 gaming console.

Let me have fun for a while before I start my day with another round of stress and just then, my butler came in right through the door

He looked so happy as usual and he smiled while sending his morning greetings. I feel something isn't right here and besides it's 12am in the morning

So it's kinda rude to walk into my room and start disturbing me by this time

"Is there a problem?"- I asked looking so uncomfortable with his presence

"There is no problem sir I just wanted to talk about something that I noticed lately"- He replied

"What is it then"- I asked

"I have noticed that you and your mother are not in good terms and it hurts me badly because I have been in this home for many years and I know that you love and adore your mother so much.

So it's quite awkward to see that you no longer want to even greet or talk with her anymore"- He replied

I felt so furious by those words, but at the same time he was actually telling the truth. My mother has been my major back bone, she has been there for me whenever I needed her the most.

But she has changed recently and I have to change too

"You are right, we were close before but things fell apart the very day I came back from my best friend's birthday party"- I replied with a frown on my face

We both sat down at the bed and we stared directly into each other's eyes as if we wanted to kiss each other

"I understand how you feel right now, I overheard you guys when you both we exchanging words about the birthday party troubles. It hurts me badly to see this family in a state of peril

I usually feel jealous about you guys because you all have no idea how I wish to be rich and comfortable just like this"- He replied

"How do you mean?"- I asked

"Well, back then I once lived as an average boy with father and my mother and were all happy because things was moving fine.

But it got to a point where things became so bad to the extent that we couldn't even feed properly. So my mother had to send me out to places where I can secure a job and fend for my parents until I found this current job and ever since then, life has been moving smoothly"- he said

I wasn't moved by his story and I was also suspicious about the story he narrated. But since he opened up to me, I might as well give him a chance to hear me out

"If you had the chance to leave all your troubles and run away, would you take it"- I asked him, looking so serious at this point

"Yes I will, because opportunity comes but once"- He replied, without any idea of what his answer had just help me solve

so I won't start feeling any guilt in my mind after travelling

"Oh okay, thank you very much, I will resolve the issue with my mom and everything will be back to normal"- I replied

Note: From now on, I would starting switching in between characters to make the story more interesting and realistic. In the remaining chapters of this story, you will see things like "POV"

please bear in mind that word means point of view, because I would be switching into different characters of the story like Alexia, Kelvin's mother, Andrew's mother, Micheal Gabriel, Kelvin and other characters that would come up. I am here to fully entertain you like never before

From Gabriel's point of view (POV)

I returned home that evening looking exhausted, cheerful, and giddy with excitement. I never imagined that my life would be completely transformed in a couple of hours. God is a such a wonderful being.

"Welcome home, son. Did you obtain all of the food items I requested you to get?"

- My mum had inquired.

I had completely forgotten that she had earlier given me a list of the food stuffs we will require at home. Oh my, I guess I'll have to rush down to the bank and cash out this money out as soon as possible so that I may purchase additional stuff.

"I'm sorry, Mom, I completely forgot about it. However, I have something with me that would blow your mind," I said with a smile on my face.

"The only thing that might possibly keep me standing while listening to your narrative is food. " "I'm quite hungry here, and there are only a few bites of food left in the kitchen, which I saved for you and your father," she said, taking a seat on the sofa.

I wasn't sure if I should go to the bank immediately away, since it was possible that they were closed for the day. It's already late and I need to get to the bank in order to cash out the money

How I wish it was a bank transfer, because I would just walk over to the ATM machine on the corner of the next street and cash it out without stress because all I will need is just an ATM card

"Mom, do you remember the woman you once saved from a robbery while on the train?" I inquired.

It was clear that she was immersed in her thoughts as she hesitated for a moment. It took her some time before she was able to formulate a response.

"Yes, I am aware of her existence. She was a dear friend of mine, and we used to hang out together back in the good old days, but it's terrible that I've lost her phone number."

I gave her a friendly smile and pulled out my handkerchief to properly clean her face after i noticed some tear drops

If I told you that you'd be able to see her again and even hang out with her like you'd never seen her before, would you believe me?" I asked.

She stared at me as if she didn't believe what she was hearing at first, and I had the impression that she didn't believe me either. It sounded a little strange that she would be able to see someone whom she had lost contact in such a strange way.

"What do you mean, go straight to the point, son?. Please don't leave me hanging in anticipation, you know how much I dislike it."- She responded, her face contorted with tension.

As I sat back to relax my body, I told my mother, "Mom just relax, I will narrate everything from the very beginning, so just rest and enjoy the account of what happened during the course of my day."

"Okay, now that I'm completely comfortable, can I hear the narrative now?" she inquired, her voice filled with curiosity.

"While on my way to buy the food items you wrote for me, I became really weak and exhausted because I was extremely hungry at the time and i even thought it wise to visit you at the store for some food. My legs were too weak to even walk properly, so I just stood there till I regained some strength.

I had no way of knowing that God would send his Angels to bring forth someone who would be a blessing to me."

"What do you mean?" she inquired, interrupting me from my narration

"Mom, please take a deep breath and allow me to tell you everything."

- I responded, attempting to reassure her.

The difference this time was that she remained quiet, and she didn't say anything after resting properly on the sofa.

"So, when I was waiting there, I ran into several of my old school buddies, whom I had assumed I would never see again in my entire life. My attention was initially drawn to a Bentley car approaching in my direction, but the hunger in my stomach caused me to pay less attention to the individuals behind the wheel.

The only thing I really wanted was food, and while I was standing on the same position, I heard someone yell my name, and when I turned around, I saw my old school class mate Kelvin

I remember my mum being completely taken aback to the point where her mouth was wide open and she couldn't say anything. It seemed as if she was in a dream.

"Do you mean to tell me you saw Kelvin today?" she asked again

"Yes, mom, he screamed my name like someone who had won the lottery, and just then, Andrew rushed out of the car, and they both embraced me as if I were a long-lost brother." "It was like they had found a long-lost brother."

We got into the car, and these two obnoxious friends of mine drove me to a posh restaurant where I gorged myself like a ravenous lion. "The hunger in my stomach was just unexplainable"- I said.

My mother burst into laughter as she stood up from the sofa to walk around

"I know you like food more than you like yourself, and I know you can't even handle the thought of going hungry for even one hour."

- She responded in a lighthearted manner.

"However, as soon as we finished eating, Andrew drove us directly to Kelvin's house, where I met his lovely mother. "She welcomed me like if I were her son, and she also indicated that she had lost contact with you," I explained.

"It's indeed surprising she hasn't contacted me for so long, she isn't the kind of person that forgets an old friend who once saved her life. Hope you got her phone number for me?" - She inquired.

"Of course, and guess what she offered me in return"- I inquired, eliciting yet another round of curiosity in her head

"Please tell me, I have told you countless times that I do not enjoy being kept in suspense"- she responded, pleading.

My response: "Well, she gave me a check for $800,000, and she stated that I should take $50,000 out of the money and give the remainder to you and father"- i said

"What!!!, oh my dear Lord!!!".

- My mother yelled and jumped out of excitement

"That money would solve all of our problems and even allow us to purchase a new car, a moderately priced house, and even start up a profitable side company for your father," she exclaimed, tears streaming down her face.

- I responded, "Yes, it would undoubtedly have an impact on our lives, and I will head directly to the bank the next day so that I can cash out the money."

When my mother began to cry, I assumed these were tears of joy, it was as if she were watching a tragic play. We have had a difficult time, and this token will help us to move on to a new level in our lives.

Walking up to her and kissing her on the forehead as I handed her the cheque was a natural progression for me.

I was mocked by my mother, who said, "Please store this in the file and put it in the drawer over there, things like this needs to be protected carefully."

I complied with her instructions and went immediately to my room to change my clothes and take a bath, as she had requested. I need to rest, and I'd want to leave the rest of the food for my father.

He is in more need, I have already eaten at the restaurant, and I will not require food again until tomorrow.

I am really happy that I can finally settle some of my bills and even save for other things that are important.

Kelvin's POV

"What's up mom, I think you should get some rest, have you taken your medications?"- I asked

My mom was busy sleeping on the sofa and I had to tap her leg so that she will go to the room and get some sleep

"Hey, I actually fell asleep. Guess my drugs are starting to work now. we will talk later tomorrow son"- She said while walking to her room

I was equally tired too so I walked straight to my room, took off my clothes and lied down naked on my bed. I didn't even take my bath, perhaps I would do that later in the night.

But i wasn't feeling sleepy so I had to pick up my phone and send a text to Micheal

"What's up bro, hope you are back home"- I asked

He replied in a few minutes, letting me know that he is kinda busy with his girl and this wasn't really nice for me
