I kept checking myself to confirm if they were actually right about the fact that I have changed in appearance within these past few years, my jaw is now covered with beards unlike before when I looked so beardless. But I didn't realize my voice has become that deep because I don't even pay attention to such things, I have a lot of better things to think of "Maybe I have changed a little and I'm about it. Hope there is food for me because my stomach needs to eat something right now before it rumbles with anger" I teased, "Yes, your father asked me to prepare your favorite dish because he knew you were going to come today" the chef replied while she walked forward to give me a warm hug, I do miss her a lot.
We all went inside while my aunt remained quiet all through, she was just busy with her phone and I simply went to my room to change my clothes and wear something less heavy, I was kinda shocked by the way my room was neatly arranged even when i haven't been there for a while. Guess the maid is responsible for this nice work and I will commend her once I confirm who actually took care of the room in my absence. After taking a short bath, I stumbled upon an old picture of me and Kelvin back then in high school, we looked so cute together and tears nearly ran from my eyes when I realized how close we were back in those good old days and I will make sure I see him before I eventually leave New York again, it's been five years since I last saw thier faces and I'm pretty sure that a lot would have taken place in my absence
I went to the dinner table after I was done with my business in the room and I ate my food slowly while seriously waiting for my parents to arrive because I can't hold my curiosity anymore. Few minutes later, I heard a car horn and I instantly knew it would be my parents but on getting aside, I was happy by the fact that they are now driving a new Lamborghini car. They have changed most of the cars in the house and that's a good improvement to notice "Andrew my love!!!" my mother screamed on sighting me from a good distance and she started running until she hugged me tight and brought my face so close to her chest to the extent that I was at the mercy of her breast but she quickly became calm after a brief hug "I miss you so much mom, it's good to see your beautiful face again" I replied with a smile.
"I miss you more, I do pray for you every day when I wake up and each time I remember your name, I will quickly bring out my phone and stare at your pictures till I'm satisfied" she replied "What!, why would you do that, it's creepy you know" I teased. My dad kept staring at us after he got down from the car so I rushed to give him a hug and he placed his hands on my head and started rubbing playfully "It's good to have you back son, how was your flight?" he asked with a smile, "it was okay, how is everything going for you at the office?" I asked
"It's really though but I'm always up for the game because I need to make the big bag of cash" he teased. My aunt came outside when she noticed some noise and she screamed out loud in excitement when she saw her sister and they way she hugged my mom shows that they have been dying to see each other for a very long time and perhaps this was a good opportunity for the both of them, I'm just glad everyone is happy, "Let's go inside and rest" my dad called out to everyone and we all did as he has instructed
On getting to the living room, my dad and mom went to upstairs to their room, seems they also want to freshen up before coming back to the living room. My aunt and I kept looking at each other for some minutes before she switched on the television to watch a romance movie, but the movie doesn't seem to interest me at all so I brought out to my phone to see what's trending online only for me to find out that my network is no longer working because I have left the shores of Nigeria, I became so weak at that point because I wasn't really expecting this at all especially when I'm this bored up and to make matters worse, I forgot my American sim in Nigeria, things are not just going the way it ought to be and I feel bad about this
But I quickly turned on my Wi-fi t to see if any open network is available when my dad's router network showed up, I typed in the family password and it connected automatically without delay so I quickly went to my what's app to see if I have any new messages and so many chats kept popping in here and there and most of the messages I received are from my staffs then few from my friends. But I quickly searched for my chat with Kelvin and Micheal so that I can inform them both that I'm in New York now, luckily they were both online and they both responded with a shock emoji when I broke the news about my return to them. "Have you finally come to stay or you just came to see your parents and leave?" Kelvin asked with a silly emoji
He still hasn't changed a bit and I'm glad that I can still reach out to them from far and near locations "I just came a visit and I will leave as soon as possible" I replied and I noticed that he didn't reply for some minutes, perhaps he wasn't quite pleased but I just have to tell him the truth because no other person will tell him "That means you are at home right now?" he asked, "Yes I'm at home but I will be the one to pay you a visit, I won advise you to come now because there are some things I need to iron out with my parents first of all
"Alright, I will inform the rest that you are back home. I know Gabriel will be very happy to hear this news" he replied and went offline while my dad walked downstairs looking so fresh as he went to the dinning table to eat his food. Later that evening, my eyes became sleepy and I felt the urge to leave the living room and head straight for my bed because I was already tired and these people aren't ready to tell me anything yet. "Where are you going to son?" my dad asked immediately I stood up from the couch. "I'm going to bed since you guys aren't saying anything, these movie is actually boring for my liking, I have been forcing myself to watch it all these while" I replied
The movie was actually a romantic movie but I seriously have issues with romantic movies and I don't know why, maybe it's because I'm single. My dad took the remote of the television and switched it off, my aunt quickly turned around to see who switched off the but she remained quiet when she found out that it was my dad who switched it off. "I'm actually sorry for switching off the television for now. I just want everyone to be attentive while I pass down this information to you both" he said, directing his reply to me and my aunt
I looked my dad with my eyes wide open to see what he has to say because I'm becoming so curious at this point and all I want is the truth and nothing more than that but I was quite surprised when tears flowed from my dad's eyes, at first I thought it was a joke so I didn't bother to ask because it does happen to some people sometimes when they are about to say something very emotional so I remained quiet. "Andrew please I want you to promise that what I'm about won't make you look at me from a different view, I kept this from you and your mother so that you both won't live you life trying to make me happy or feel pity for me" he replied and that point, I'm becoming scared because my father has never been in this mood ever since I knew him and I don't really know what would put him in this state.
"Father, nothing on earth would make me look at you from a different perspective, you can say anything you feel you have been hiding from me" I replied with a smile, trying to make him feel relaxed, "You won't understand but what if I tell you that everything you saw in your dream will come to pass?" he asked. His question was quite confusing and it made me start remembering everything that happened in the dream that night, "Father I don't understand you why would you say such kind of nightmare will come to pass, is this a joke or what?" I asked with confusion written all over me
"Take it easy dear, please just relax" my mom said as she came to sit down near me while holding my shoulders, I felt her cold arms and it was kinda sweet but my dad's speech is giving me the creeps. "Andrew, I have been suffering from cancer for the past eight years but I decided to hide from my family members, my brothers, my friends, my wife and even you. I also gave a strong warning to my doctor not to reveal anything about my health condition to anymore or he would risk losing his head.
I thought I could overcome it because I was on strong medications that was sent to me by my other doctor in India and for some years, things kept going normal until few days ago when I started noticing some symptoms in my body, so I quickly sneaked out of the house that day so that your mother won't know what is happening to me. On getting to the hospital, the doctor demanded I should go for a test which confirmed my cancer case but the painful part was when he told me that my cancer has gotten to the final stage where it can't be treated anymore.
He said the cancer is taking over my body system gradually and when it completely takes everything, I will dead by then. And I have only one year and few months before this happens" he replied and burst into tears like a little baby, my mom also joined him and the both of them started crying profusely while my aunt struggled to hold my aunt from falling to the floor. I can't believe what I'm hearing, are these people acting a movie for me or what?
"Dad is this a joke or what?, please just tell me that you are joking right now and you just want to see me laugh" I asked to be sure if they were joking or not, "Andrew do you think this is a joke?, your father has only one year and few months before he leaves this earth forever and that would make me an instant widow. This is the truth that he has been hiding from you ever since you called us to narrate your dream" my mom called out to me in tears and I stood up with tears in my eyes, my body was shaking and I didn't realize when I fell to the ground and shut my eyes like a machine
I woke up the next morning to find myself in the hospital with two drips that was pierced into my hands. My mom immediately ran out to call the doctor when she noticed that I was awake, what is happening here?
