As I peered through the woods I was able to notice the nest of goblins that were in front of me. The goblins seemed to act fairly civilized, but if the lore that I knew about goblins in fantasy worlds was accurate then they would be more trouble than they are worth.
The most commonly used lore about goblins on Earth is that they first mass-produce in their nests. After that, they invade human towns to pilferage as well as kidnap any females that they find suitable to have children with.
It is said that the female of almost any race can rarely even survive one goblin birth process, but even if you do you are scarred for life based on how many goblins can be born at once.
This means that if I am going to become a hero for the people of this world like I planning to do. Then I will have to first prove myself by slang these goblins and sparing the females of our town from going through such an ordeal.
I started to advance toward the area where I saw the first group of goblins that were gathered outside of the nest.
The first thing that I did when I got close to the goblin group I swing my great sword in a crescent-shaped swipe that cut the bodies of the entire group in half with one swift motion.
As soon as they hit the ground and separated I could feel the power inside of me growing.
You have achieved level two.
Since I did not see any other goblins around I opened my menu and then noticed that I had five unspent status points; on top of that, I had a new ability point.
It seems that my strength and vitality are good for now, but I will still have to increase them to help my survivability at some point.
So I chose to look at the description of each of the stats to figure out what they do exactly.
Charisma makes it where if you try to say something that the other person does not want to hear your voice is overridden by the words of one of the many gods of this world to best suit the situation.
That might be helpful, but then, at the same time,e, if it's not coming out of my mouth, it doesn't feel like I earned it.
The stat of agility mostly focuses on speed and stamina consumption when using your weapons. Due to that second feature, I might want to have a decent amount of agility, but not an insane level since I am trying to be a tank-like character.
It seems that the status of intelligence focuses mostly on magic and general world knowledge. Under that category, they had some subtext that said this would also affect what kinds of rune magic I might be able to enhance my weapons or armor with.
The luck stat seemed to enhance the chances of getting more items from enemy drops.
I decided not to look at any more of the stats and instead go with putting all five of my points into my intelligence stat. This was because I truly wanted to see how powerful dwarven rune magic could become. Also, I might have to answer a large variety of questions about the world that I don't know being from another world, and this would make it easier to give them the appropriate answer.
Then I went to my skills under my intelligence, and I stopped at a skill that used my race's rune magic to be able to blink around the world as long as I could see where I was going.
Since dwarfs do not have traditional magic it will have a cool down, and at tier one, I can only use it once every ten minutes.
As soon as I selected the skill I noticed that there was a tattoo on my right hand. This tattoo was of two different locations, and I saw the tattoo move, showing a dwarf figure moving between the two points. This must be the warp rune.
I advanced into the nest now that I had spent my stat and skill points. When I entered into the nest I could feel as if it was alive, and even here the growling of goblins.
A group of goblins jumped out of one of the cracked openings and lunched at me.
I was not able to react fast enough to all of them, and one of them had scared my shoulder with the head of a club.
This scar, despite how small it was, was quite intense on my body,y, most likely due to the spikes at the edge of the goblin's club. This made it a lot harder for me to swing my weapon, but I endured the pain instead of complaining about it.
I then counter-attacked with my sword, and when I killed them I heard the AI voice say that I leveled up again.
As soon as I leveled up I noticed that the wound was entirely healed, but the dent in the armor where I was hit did not repair.
I chose to not look at my stats or skills until I defeated all of these goblins. If I waited it would make it feel more challenging, and also a lot more worth it to have more points to be spent at once.
Now that the goblins around me were dead, I made my way to the interior of this goblin settlement because if I were to find the goblin leader, they would most likely be in that location.
As I made it into the center of the nest I saw a few goblins that were dressed in leather armor and also had daggers.
To my knowledge, goblins did not know how to make weapons so they most likely got them from dead individuals from this world.
In the very back I saw three goblin shamans.
This is going to be a very hard battle to survive, but if I do not push myself at all I will not be able to bring more honor to my family name.
"You should have stayed away from our nest. This will be your downfall dwarf. Do you truly think that one of you can take out our entire colony on your own?
If you believe that that tells me how foolish your race has become over the years". The goblin shaman in the center said.
That was quite surprising to me because, to my knowledge, goblins never spoke. This must mean that either this world is dramatically different, or it could also mean that they learned how to speak, read, and write from some books that they found.
All the goblins turned to me and started to make an advance on me after the shaman spoke.
I rushed at the assassins and tried to kill them as quickly as I possibly could. I was able to defeat two of them in one giant circular swoop of my great sword.
"Come on, goblins. If this is all that you can do, then you will lose".
As soon as I finished speaking, I noticed that the other two shamans were starting to chant something, which meant that I needed to quickly kill all of the minions so that I could get to the shamans without much hassle.
I worked my way through the goblins one after the other and Slade each of them without much effort because every time that I would get injured only a few kills later, I would level up and heal the wound that they had created.
When I only had the three shamans left I noticed that they had created a massive ball of black that was aimed at me.
Since goblins were neither considered Divine nor demonic I chose to activate my skill, Guardian.
The ball of fire came rushing at me, and even though I knew I would survive due to my skill I still flinched in fear.
"You are going to have to try harder than that if you are going to defeat me". I said as I closed the distance between the three goblin shamans and me. Finally, I swung my sword in the same crescent motion that I did against the first word and beheaded all three of them at once.
I grabbed my knife and cut off the ears of the goblins so that we were not killed by the spell as proof of completing the mission. Then I put them in a bag and placed it on my waist.
The last item I chose to grab before leaving their nest was the three staffs of the shamans as proof that I had defeated them.
I made my way back to the guard house wearing my broken armor, and this time, as I opened the door, everyone started to cheer and clap at the fact that I had survived my mission.
"You know, to be honest, I did not even think you were going to survive that mission".
"Now that I know you can survive, though, I have much more respect for you as a war.".
"To be honest most of us thought that you were just a rich kid trying to play around with your father's money". Some of the other dwarf guards said to me as I entered the guard house.
After they were all done complimenting me for surviving a mission as hard as my first one I made my way to the Captain's office so I could turn in the mission as a success.
"Are you kidding me you even slaughtered the shamans that were running the goblin hideout.
For completing this Mission you will receive your promised reward as well as the bonus that was promised for each goblin shaman that you defeated.
All around I will file a very good report with the dwarf king".
"Thank you very much, captain". I said as I bowed to him.
This life was truly an amazing one that I had been given. One of the other things that I wonder is if anyone else became a candidate for The Reincarnation Protocol program from Earth and if I will ever be able to meet one of them.
