I opened my status display screen and noticed that my younger brother did not react to it at all as if he could not even see it.
"What is the matter, Giltrude? Am I doing something odd?" He asked me as he made his way to me and stopped about 5 feet from the edge of my bed.
"Oh no it is nothing. I was just daydreaming about the things I want to achieve as a member of the city guard".
"All right then; just make sure that you do not waste too much time doing that because Father said that he had something special planned for you today".
"Okay, I will remember that". I said to him as he walked out of our room.
I wondered what it might be that Father had planned for me. Whatever it was I had a feeling that it was going to take a lot of my free time away today.
To not be consumed by the thought of what my father had planned for me today; I chose to focus my attention on where my available attribute and skill points should go.
I honestly think that I probably should up my vitality stamp with all of my points. If I can increase my defense as much as possible I won't take much damage in a fight.
I thought that I would be eventually able to survive; almost anything that was thrown at me made me excited.
After I put all of my available stat points into my vitality stat, I could feel my muscles getting harder, as if by upping my vitality,y, I was giving myself iron-like skin.
Now that I had put my attribute points where I wanted to I decided to look into my list of available passive skills.
My racial perks seemed to mostly be focused on either a variety of different damage resistances; as well as a few perks focused on crafting. Since I did not want to become a blacksmith of some kind I chose to look at the list of passive resistance perks that were available to me.
At my current level, I only saw four things that I could get.
The first available perk was something called Rare Detection. With this skill, I would be able to detect when rare things are nearby. It also seems that at the first tier of this perk, I would only be able to use this as a means to detect minerals, but if I improve it, it can go all the way up to finding rare creatures for me to fight.
The second part that I could claim was called Lucky Ancestry. If I chose this perk I would receive a permanent plus thirty to my luck stat.
I chose to not even look at the rest of my available perks because I knew exactly which one it was that I wanted to use. I chose to use the perk Lucky Ancestry. when I chose to use this skill I did not feel any different like I did when I chose to up my vitality stat.
I then closed the display screen and made my way to the kitchen where I saw my father wearing his full set of battle armor.
"Are you ready to go through the first step to the coming of age process for the young men of our house".
"Yes, Father I am ready". I said to him as I did a light bow.
"Good to hear that you are ready my son. You will need to put on your full set of battle armor as well as carry your greatsword to complete this task".
I then got up on my feet and went back up to my room and put on my full set of iron armor, and then after that, I put my great sword on my back.
"I am now entirely ready, Father, to begin this journey together with you as the firstborn son of the house of Digore".
"That is what I want to hear Giltrude".
As soon as my father finished speaking to me he turned around and then walked out of our house.
I followed him maintaining at least three paces behind him at all times. This was because due to the customs of this world, the children always walked behind the parents when they were publicly walking together.
If I ever get the chance to think about the AI that brought me into this world I will do so because it was massively convenient that I know everything that this body knew before I took over.
"So what are we doing today that requires us to wear an entire set of body armor?" I asked him as they approached the city gate, but we did not stop once we made it there.
"My son; this is going to be a very big day for you. I am not saying this just because it is part of our family coming-of-age process.
The true reason why I'm saying this is because of the amount of difficulty that this could hold for you. If you succeed then you will have earned my respect as a man, and I will no longer just treat you as my son. If that is not enough for you then this will also prove that you are a worthy warrior, and you will be able to have all the trophies that come from this". My father said in response to my question as he turned left when we were about forty feet from the town walls.
We cut across the wheat fields outside of town until we made it to a heavily wooded area where I could hear dwarves that were cheering from inside the wooded area.
I stopped moving as soon as I made it through the woods into an open area because of what I saw that was only about fifty feet in front of me.
"I hope that this answers your question my son. You have to kill that creature". My father said as he sat down at a table and took a massive drink of ale. "If you do defeat this creature you will be able to use its scales as a material for some very powerful gear.
My father must be out of his mind. Because while I believe that I can handle most things that a dwarf frequently will have to deal with in this world due to my extensive knowledge of dwarven culture as well as the perks that I will attain from leveling up in this world; I do not believe that I can take down a dragon.
This dragon was in an iron cage that was reinforced using rune magic that made it so he could not use any of his abilities while inside.
He did not have any wings which meant that I would not have to worry about any aerial assaults if I was to take on this dragon.
In the end, I just needed to get my grit together and face this challenge no matter how severe it might sound.
"If all I have to do is slay this dragon; then it will be done, Father".
"All right man. My son is ready; release the dragon!" I heard my father yell as he chugged another pint of ale.
I've been through my great sword and walked towards the cage where they were holding the dragon ready for whatever was going to happen next whenever the dragon was released from its cage.
The men deactivated the room magic that was keeping it in place and ended instantly using its fire breath to burn through the metal.
I stepped to the left of where the dragon was as it turned to exhale the fire from inside of itself to avoid being hit.
Whenever the bars were melted the dragon dashed out of the cage and started to stare at everyone around it.
It did not take the dragon long to focus all of its attention on me since I was the one with a giant sword pointing in its direction.
I rushed at the dragon swinging my sword at its right leg, but it only hit the scales and became partially chipped.
Since I knew that my sword was not going to work, I chose to drop the sword, but as soon as I did, everyone started to laugh at what I had just done.
I ran at the dragon avoiding its claws as it swung them at me by jumping up in the air and landing on its back.
The dragon started to Buck and ran around as I was on its back, just like a bull.
Then I pulled the short sword that was around my waist and lunged it into the soft area of the dragon's back neck where the scales seemed to not be as strong.
As I lunged my sword into its weak spot it started to bleed out rivers of blood as if I had hit an artery. Shortly after that it over to his side and stopped moving.
I got off the dragon as it hit the ground and everyone suddenly dropped their mugs of ale out of surprise at what I had done.
Did I screw it up by killing it unconventionally?
All the drawers started to appear and rushed over to me hitting me hard on the back as they got close to me.
"That's not how I would have done it, but Giltrude still got the job done". My father said to everyone.
Everyone else started to cheer and drink their heart's content at my success.
"Since you have passed this test, you are now an official number of the house of Digore. Since you are the firstborn son, you can either take my family banner as your own or make one of your own".
You thought of becoming an official member of this house but excitement to you, but it also seemed that it might have an absurd amount of responsibility that I think I am not truly ready for just yet.
All the dwarfs began to descale the dragon, and they gave me the scales afterward so I could collect my reward.
I ate the fixed dragon meat as a reward for my effort today. It does not matter what this new life chooses to throw at me I will rise to the challenge and conquer it all.
