Chapter 3

It has been a long week since I became Hajun's bodyguard. I do everything for him and nobody has come to kill him yet! Not that I'm not happy or anything, I just don't know how long I am going to last if this goes on. I cook for him, clean for him and even fetch coffee for him? I am beginning to truly question if I am a bodyguard or a housemaid.

It's about time for his usual morning coffee although I don't know why I have to do it when there are maids in this huge mansion!. Curse that stupid sparing contest! I knew it, anything involving Hajun is nothing but misfortune. If I spit in it would he notice? Nah that's too good for him, how about rat poison, I thought with my eyes twinkling but I couldn't kill him my guilt won't be able to take it. If only I didn't have a heart.

"Doyun-ah where is my coffee!" Hajun whines. My eyes began to twitch as I lost to the temptation and doused his coffee in salt "How long does it take to make coffee". I smiled sweetly as I handed him his cup. Immediately he took a sip he spat it out.

"What's this? I thought you liked coffee" I said smirking.

"I think this one has gone bad" Hajun said dropping his cup.

"No it's a new flavor" I say sweetly.

"Are you sure? It tastes bad" Hajun said with a disgusted face.

"It's just your imagination" I say trying to force the coffee down his throat.

I know I look weird with silver hair and big blue eyes but that doesn't give people the right to gawk at me! I also noticed it when Daeshim introduced me as the head of the bodyguards, some stared with disbelief while the others stared in contempt. You can probably guess who lead that fraction considering that goon number 1 has been giving me the stink eye ever since.

Immediately, we reached his office, I almost collapsed out of relief having people stare at me is unnerving. I still haven't found anything suspicious or out of place and is beginning to worry me. Everything has been so calm and stable that I am beginning to suspect that something is wrong. A man that has been followed around by petty assassins suddenly loses them? It might be my instincts or my beautiful ability to always see the negatives but I need to take a look around the building to be sure. Immediately I stepped out, I was ambushed. I guess it's about time we have that talk.

I followed them as they lead me towards a training facility underground and watched as they tried their best to look intimidating.

"So, does anyone have anything to say?" I said as I looked around the faces of all the men in the room.

"I don't get how a scrawny guy like you, could be able to lead us. We have trained for years and suddenly a boy that is probably wet around the ears is supposed to lead us" said goon number 1 while the rest nodded in agreement.

Trying to corner me with numbers and not with strength huh? How smart of him.

"I owe you nothing so if this meeting is done then I would like to get back to work" I said in my everyday tone, completely unbothered by the amount of people surrounding me. I went to walk away before being grabbed on the shoulder by one of the faces in the room and I just lost it. I left them trembling in so much fear that they would think twice before mouthing off.

I searched high and low for any traps or anything suspicious in the building but everything looked spotless. No strange cars have followed us ever since I became his body guard. I checked some of his workers and even some of his close friends but still nothing, I have no idea when or where they are going to strike but I am going to make sure I will protect him with my life.

2 days later at a nearby hospital in Gyeonggi-do province

"Hajun wake up,” I screamed as he was loaded on a stretcher and was rushed to the ICU. He was fine only a minute ago, he was laughing and being his usual annoying self and the next he was convulsing on the living room floor.

It was almost like he was finding it hard to breathe, he kept on gasping for air but it was almost as if he couldn’t get enough of it.

It couldn’t be poison because I made sure to check everything cooked and delivered, he doesn’t have any health issues and has never had any breathing problems.I began to walk around like a madman running everything on my mind and I couldn’t find anything that was remotely suspicious till I remembered that there was a faint smell of almonds always around him.

Flashback

"What is that sickening sweet smell, you have hanging around this room"

"Oh that, it always come from the flowers that hana brings in every morning"

“It doesn’t disturb you”

"No, why would it?"

“No reason” I replied while looking at the flowers strangely. It was beautiful with it’s red colour that fades to white at the tips but it still gave me a feeling of unease because I am sure, I have smelled that odour somewhere. It might just be my imagination.

"Hana-ssi the air conditioner broke down, will you mind calling the repair men"

" As you wish " she said before bowing and leaving.

"How long has it been since she started working for you. It hasn’t been very long, about a year. She was recommended to me by a friend and she seemed lively and very hard-working so I just hired her”

“Just like that”

“Well yes she was recommended by daeshim after all.” He said making me release a breathe of relief.

"What? Are you scared that she might be here to kill me?" he said trying and failing to cover his smirk with the book he was reading.

"As if! I would be glad if she came to kill you. She will be doing the world a great service."

"I would be hurt by that comment, if I didn’t know how much you love me." He said approaching with a mischief in his eyes. I backed away from him slowly, wandering what he might be up to till I saw a feather duster in his hands from my peripheral vision causing me to bolt for my life. He would have caught me if not for the door opening to reveal Hana and the repair men.

The Next morning I woke up with a really bad feeling about today. Everything and everyone just felt wrong, it might have been my superstition but I just couldn't shake it off.

The day went on like normal again with I and Hajun bickering like children and Hana always trying to separate us. She really does have patience being able to take of Hajun despite her young age but I guess that is what makes her more reliable. I guess I was just on edge because nothing seemed to be happening. I was almost relieved till I heard a thud next to me.

I turned towards the sound to see Hajun bleeding profusely from his mouth. I couldn't talk, I couldn't move. I couldn’t only stare as Hana began to scream hysterically. He was bleeding and convulsing on the floor but I couldn't think I could only shutdown and stare in horror at what was happening in front of me before my brain clicked and I dialed 211.

12:00 am in Park Hajun’s mansion.

"We trust you will be able to handle this"

"When have I ever failed"
