Chapter Thirty One: The Standoff

Gabriel opened his eyes with a throbbing pain from the back of his head. He wasn't sure where he was but the one thing he did know, was that he was restrained. Across from him, was Cassie who was tied up, hands about her head.

He wasn't sure who knocked them out but he assumed the Vampires wanted to keep them restrained whilst they found out from Gwen wether or not he was telling the truth.

" Hey, are you okay? " Gabriel asked Cassie who slowly began to stir, only to realize what Gabriel had just discovered. They were in a dark room, and were both tied up. " I'm fine..I think? How did we get here? " Cassie asked, as she tried to wiggle her body free from her restraints.

" I don't know. I was hit from the back and woke up here. I'm assuming they want us restrained until they find out whether or not I was telling the truth" Gabriel looked around the room but couldn't see much of anything that would be use. Just some old boxes that were too far away from him or Cassie to reach.

" They are going to kill us Gabriel. You have to know that.." Cassie continued to try and wiggle free.

" And if they do, then they do. But I don't intend on dying here " Gabriel seemed rather calm, which confused Cassie. There was no reason that he should be so calm. It made no sense to her.

" Well how do you plan on getting us out of this mess? " Cassie finally gives up, having no luck getting free.

" All we can do is wait for now. And when they come to us, they will set us free" He smiles, which confused Cassie even more. Nothing about the way he was reacting made any sense.

" Djd they hit you too hard on the head? " Cassie asked. She almost wondered if this was even Gabriel or someone that looked like him. He seemed so calm. He wasn't worried or frustrated like he had been the entire time. Something was definitely different but she couldn't place what it was.

" Gabriel..? " Cassie was going to confront him about the way he was acting as the sound of a door opening, echos through the room. " So you really thought you could trick us? " a voice calls out from the darkness. " What? " Cassie questions and Gabriel says nothing, not even looking to the darkness for the source of the voice.

" Your friends are at the city walls with several trucks. Would've thought you would've been smarter about this" a vampire steps out from the darkness. Cassie looked to Gabriel and then back to the Vampire.

" We don't know anything about trucks? We came here alone? "Cassie tried to explain to the Vampire who ran foward and planted his fist deeply into Cassie's stomach. Blood shoots out from her mouth, her eyes opened wide as her breath escapes her body.

" We are going to kill you both in front of them. To make an example " The Vampire growls and steps out of the room, where 6 other Vampires enter and begin untying them from their chains. Cassie is in immense pain and looks to Gabriel for a cue to attack but he does not seem to offer one. And so they were led outside.

And though he was saying nothing and doing nothing except walking, Cassie continued looking to him for a sign of what to do. Anything. Anything at all would have been good enough her. But he gave her nothing, not even a glance in her direction. The Vampires led them to the gate where they opened it and pushed them outside.

Kara and the others noticed this. Kara saw Gabriel with Cassie and at least knew that he was okay. " GABRIEL" She called to him but he didn't look in her direction whatsoever. " Maybe he didn't hear me? " Kara thought, though she could tell the more that she looked at him, that something was terribly wrong.

Vampires, hundreds of thousands appeared from behind Gabriel and Cassie where they watched the convoy.

" The Lycan King tried to trick us, and he will pay with his life" one Vampire smirked as he launched his fist at Gabriel who turned quickly and caught it, twisting the arm rapidly until the arm was ripped off from the bone.

Gabriel did not change his blank expression and only stared at the countless horde of Vampires. And that is when Gabriel, began to shift. He was now in his wolf form and and Cassie decided this was the time to shift as well.

" The next one of you, that raises a single hand to me, will lose that hand..just like your friend there" Gabriel points with his eyes to the Vampire laying on the ground, missing his arm.

" I have no intention of dying here. Especially to any of you. Now you can either wait for your scout to return or we can fight right here and now. It makes no difference to me" Gabriel Growls at the hoard who seemed to not know what to do. They had not expected him to challenge them considering their numbers.

" We could kill you easily " One Vampire points out.

" Well as much as I'd like to see you try, some of you do need to make it back to the Underworld" Gabriel had a confidence in his voice that surprised everyone.

Kara looked on, she wanted to be by his side. " I should be by him..not her" Kara thought to herself. " But he didn't even notice me..I need.." Kara couldn't hold herself back and ran up to his side and prepared herself to fight. " I'm here Gabriel " Kara smiled, ready to die by his side if need be.

" I didn't ask you to be " Gabriel growled at Kara who ignored his tone. " You never have to ask. I'm here whether you like it or not dammit" Kara snapped back, she had no intention of leaving him.

" I told you to go home" Gabriel was annoyed that yet again, she didn't listen to him.

" I don't care. I'm not going to leave you dammit. You might think that I want Gwen. You might think I don't love you. But I do..more than anything. And I am going to die by your side or live forever alone " Kara's eyes glow green, fire spouting from them.

The Vampire's look on, not being sure entirely what to do. Some of them wanted to fight whilst others wanted to wait for the scout to return. They knew that going against a leaders wishes was going be very bad for them. And if what he said was true, then they would be disobeying direct commands.

One of the Vampires steps forward. " There is no scout. This was all a trap. A crappy one but a trap nonetheless. I say we kill them all. We have the King and Queen right here. If we kill them, we could have complete control. No more resistance whatsoever" the Vampire seemed to convince the majority as they began moving out from the city so that they could surround the entire convoy.

" What do you want to do Gabriel?" Cassie asked as she surveyed the situation.
