The Fall
Mason stared in shock for long minutes before his mind managed to catch up with what was happening. He marveled at the deadly beauty that was Ilona Black, the woman he loved, fighting with her flashing twin blades. She moved with all her usual speed and focus, taking his breath away as she had before.
It didn't take him long to realize, however, that there was something a bit off with Ilona's movements. He narrowed his gaze as he saw that Pierce Vane was also moving strangely. After a few minutes of studying them, he saw the problem. The muddy ground was causing them to slip.
And then Mason watched as the mutinous Captain landed what appeared to be his first blow. Ilona jerked and stumbled back. When lightning lit up the scene, Mason saw there was now a long, dark slash across her thigh.
