The Novel's Shadow

After dying, I opened my eyes to a new world, the world of a novel. With a new identity of a side character called Keith Devans, I will work in the shadows and help the protagonist whenever it is needed. Even with such a dream, the world of the novel is still dangerous for a side character like me so using the knowledge of the novel and obtaining some skills and talents I will become one of the strongest. Or so I hoped.

Entrance Ceremony (1)

After settling down in my dorm which is on the second-floor room 201, I decided that it would be nice looking around the academy. I did hear how the academy looked and how majestic it was in the novel but while it did look certainly amazing it was not enough for me to be in awe.

The academy is overall extremely big, so big that it can have 6 thousand students that attend each year. The school is so big that it could probably fit 15 football stadiums inside of it.

The apartments are near the front entrance to the east while the main building is in the center of the school grounds. The main building consists of 5 floors, the first floor being for the first-year students, the second floor for the second-year students, and finally the third floor being for the third-year students.

While the three first floors are used for classes for each grade, the fourth floor is used by all grades as it is the floor with laboratories, shooting ranges, summoning circles, libraries, and more. The last floor being the fifth one is for the teachers and administrative force of the school, including the principal.

Each of the first 3 floors has a training ground for students to use as they wish, be it for dueling or more, while other grades can head into another year's training ground, causing trouble will result in a suspensión. While the school gives preferential treatment to the rich and talented, it doesn't mean that they will go easy on them in terms of punishment.

Such a thing was made so clear when, Aso Embers, the rival of the protagonist and also the successor of the Embers family that once founded the academy, got kicked out of the academy for his bad behavior.

Anyways I decided it would be best to tour around the academy and get used to the place so after leaving my luggage in the dorm I went outside and headed for the main building. There were a lot of students around, mostly from the second and third years, while there were others in casual clothes that probably signify they are new to the school similar to me.

I decided to go around using [Truth Eyes], and surprisingly most third years were B rankers, while most second-year students are D rankers which are quite normal in this world.

Soon I came across a bulletin board in the middle of the first-floor hall and one of the papers said they were looking for someone to take care of the library. I thought that was perfect for me so I decided to head to the library on the fourth floor.

By doing this, not only will I not mess with the storyline but I will also be able to read books as I please.

Soon after arriving at the library I saw a third-year student arguing with a teacher, I knew who the teacher was just based on her appearance but the female third-year student didn't click a bell.

The teacher was, Monica, a magician that had great knowledge in telekinesis and had a not so slender body with no assets to call big, but she had a unique hair color being purple and she also had blue eyes, making her quite easy to distinguish, she was also ranked 45 among the many heroes of the human realm.

After using my skill on the third-year student I was able to find out that she was named Alicia Drajar, and she had an overall rank of A- and the potential was of S+, which is surprisingly talented among the human realm's new talents, she was also wearing a badge with a book which tells me she was in charge of this place, her appearance was unique as she had blonde hair and golden eyes with a slender body.

Soon both Monica and Alicia seemed to have noticed my presence.

They both gave me a look of confusion.

"Uhm, are you in charge of the library?", I asked in a low tone for no reason whatsoever.

Alicia soon said "Yes, that would be me.", it sounded both honorable and narcissistic.

"Then, can I apply to be an attendee for the library?"

Both Monica and Alicia gave me a confused looked.

"Uhm, I'm Keith Devans, soon to be part of the first-year class, I'm currently 17 years old", I reaffirmed with a low tone, I'm not sure if it is because of the overwhelming presence of both Monica and Alicia that I talked like this but it might be because of my lack of social skills.

Alicia soon smiled and said, "That's great we are always welcoming new members to the library, you just have to fill out this form"

Soon she handed me a form, with the typical questions of age, grade, name, and reason for joining. After answering all the questions and handing the forms back, she gave me a bright smile and said "Welcome, to the library committee".

"Committee? Can I ask where other members are so I can greet them?", I asked

"Nope, it's only you and me", Alicia said.

I felt like something fishy was going on here and soon gave a stare of distrust to both Alicia and Monica.

Soon Monica gave me a reason as to why there were no other students joining the library committee.

"Being in charge of the library doesn't give any benefits to students apart from the fact that they have access to all books and can come here at any time unlike other clubs, but it also has a lot of responsibilities that need to be done while being part of the library committee, like being here from 3 pm to 10 pm, checking on all the books and keeping track of who borrows them as well as making requests to the school to order books for the library."

with all of that, I began to think of the benefits, while thinking I muttered out loud, "Maybe I shouldn't have chosen to be part of the library committee".

Hearing this Alicia said, "But you can also skip physical classes such as dueling and training in exchange for taking care of the library during those times".

For me, who couldn't obtain the item that would boost my stats, this was great news as I wouldn't have to attend any physical classes with my low stats, and due to that I easily agreed to take this job, "It would be a great pleasure to be part of the committee"

Although I would still have done it, either way, to keep the storyline correctly. Not only that even after just looking at the books it would seem like Keith inside my memories had a love for books so my heart was beating quite hard just at the mere thought of reading them.

Monica also introduced herself after that. "Btw, my name is Monica, I'm a teacher that will be in charge of one of the first-year classes and I'm also in charge of checking up on the library now and then, so we will be seeing each other quite often".

I already knew about the fact that she was going to teach the first-year class, almost exactly the top class, meaning where most of the main characters and protagonist will be attending. Although the fact that she had to take care of the library was news to me, it didn't bother me as much as she would be too busy nurturing the main characters.

Bowing to them, I decided to move around the library and see if any books could catch my eye.

But apart from that, I'm also searching for grimoires, these books give a boost in stats and sometimes even have skills to be given to the ones who read them. Normally these grimoires are well hidden even having dumb titles that no one would think of as important.

In the story, there was a main character if I'm not wrong a female lead that had found a grimoire that gave her the skill of telekinesis that was the same as Monica but in the end, the author forgot about the skill and let it sit to rot because the skill was given to a warrior instead of a magician.

Currently using the [Truths Eyes], I'm trying to find the grimoire that would give me a huge boost in power.
