The Start of it All

Being suspended from school has its ups. I finally was able to catch up on my homework and going through my clothes, getting rid of what I never wore. Most of them being from crappy holidays and whatever my grandma found in my size. Others were from over the years and clothes that got one upped by another piece. Whatever it was, that chore and homework was done.

So were the dishes, and the living room, and the bathroom, the kitchen too. There was nothing to do that was important. Even the dinner plans were made and sat out. Nothing had to be done for once, and I wasn't at school.

I made breakfast beside the bag of frozen beef soaking in a bowl of water in the sink. Wonderful scenery for a morning like this I thought to myself as I dunked the bread into the toaster. Whisking eggs doesn't excite anyone and spreading butter on toast is just as entertaining.

I made my plate once the eggs were done and watched a few viral videos and whatever was on my feed. One guy is reviewing another guy destroy a bucket before repairing with his product of liquid rubber. Or another video of a musician who has a knack for clay models but likes to add human teeth. The internet had everything, so what about werewolves?

I felt myself glance back and forth before going to my browser typing in my burning question. A few scrolls down and I find an article that looks somewhat helpful.

"A hybrid wolf man like creature, either on purpose or by curse or affliction such as a bite or scratch from another werewolf, will transform under a full moon or depending on the kind, at will when desired.

There have been many reports of how one changes into a werewolf. Removing all clothes and wearing a belt made out of wolf skin. In other cases, they were rubbed down with a magic salve. A hallucinogenic ointment used mainly by witches as far back as the Early Modern Period. Other methods of transformation included drinking rainwater out of the foot of a wolf or animal in question. The water source could be from enchanted streams as well.

Many methods have been thought up and existed for many years. The Ancient Greeks and Romans believed that if you exhausted yourself, you would be cured. In medieval Europe, there was three options. One was medically with wolfs-bane, surgically, or with an exorcism. Most of the time, these proved to be more fatal than helpful to those that were performed on. A Sicilian belief that came from Arabic origins was that to cure a werewolf, strike them on the forehead or scalp with a knife. Another Sicilian belief was to pierce the werewolf's hands with nails. In a Danish belief, just scolding them could cure the werewolf. One of the most common methods was conversion to Christianity during the medieval period. "

As I was about to go to a link for a fancy word, I heard it.

It was in the backyard. Whatever it was, it sounded big from its footsteps. My guess was something Kenneth was doing but my gut told me to go look. So, I did.

In the backyard of Kenneth and Halvor was another wolf, smaller than the previously mentioned, but still bigger than me. He could eat anyone on this street with a gulp. I felt I had to do something.

My fist knocked on Kenneth's door. I stood there for a moment, getting anxious with every second, that wolf could have someone's kid as far as I know. Someone's poor dog that got left outside all night. Something I can prevent if I say something, even if Kenneth seems like a jerk.

The door swung open slowly. Kenneth stood there in a white tank top and Scooby Doo pajama pants. He knew what I thought. He seemed like he wanted to tease me about calling him a jerk, but he knew I was serious. He leaned to the side and grabbed a gun that was out of my sight and made his way to the backyard, I hauled behind.

Laying on the ground was an amber golden color of fur, crimson dripping down the sides and mouth of the creature. Kenneth immediately lowered his gun once he saw the long face of the wolf. His eyes soften some, like Mindy's when she notices me, that look of you know someone.

"Oskar! What happened to you?" Kenneth crouched down beside the wolf, who was Oskar. Kenneth then looked at me after seeing Oskar's injuries.

"I hate to ask but could you-?" I cut Kenneth off.

"Get a medic kit? Sure, give me a moment." I went back to my house and in, shortly returning with my family's medic kit, an old towel, and peroxide. I handed them to Kenneth, the wolf glanced up at me then Kenneth. Kenneth stared back then turned to me.

"Uh, Linsday, could you turn around for just a second?" I raised an eyebrow and turned around.

"Okay, you can turn around now." When I did, I could see why I needed to.

A guy with only the towel covering his pride. Blonde hair almost white along with his eyelashes, those almost covered his icy blue eyes. With every blink you could see them flutter, even just a little.

"So, um, hi, I'm Lindsay, I live next door." I felt awkward. I didn't know what else to say and I could feel the atmosphere was off. I wanted to know what was happening and I wasn't leaving till I found out.

"Oskar, what kicked your ass like this?"

Oskar wore a frown, one that felt like it didn't fit his face. His voice was gentle and medium if I had to describe how deep his voice was.

"Demons. They're on us again." Kenneth groaned.

"Fuck. You sure it was them?" Oskar nodded.

"Without a doubt, boss."
