They were silent for a few minutes but then her mother cracked a smile. She came over and hugged me and I was surprised to say the least.
Her dad came and pulled her back, extending his hand to me which I shook grateful to be accepted by them.
"Pure-blood alpha or not you hurt her, I'm going to kick your ass," he said, squeezing my hand firmly.
"Point taken," I said amused by his protectiveness.
We sat around and talked some more but Maxine was very quiet.
"What's wrong baby girl?" her dad asked concerned.
"Why didn't you guys tell me about the bloodline?" Maxine asked.
I could feel her hurt and betrayal that they would keep something so important from her.
