CHAPTER 26

　　"Yes, okay thanks. You can drop them by," I said, hanging up the phone with one of my associates. He had called to tell me the results came sooner than expected and he would be bringing them by later today.

　　I had been going through genealogy books and records since they left trying to confirm my suspicions about Maxine. Her mother and father are average pack members. That much was clear. However, something about her great grandmother on her mother's side caught my attention. Her mother had been mated to a powerful pure-blood alpha. They had a daughter who carried the alpha gene but died at the age of seven. They had a son who they gave the title to as well as two other sons. Maxine was the only female to be born in a century since the passing of her ancestor’s alpha daughter. Even stranger, none of the boys born in the last century to the family carried the alpha gene or were mated to anyone who did.
