Chapter two: Jenna meets Mei

   Jenna's Pov

      It's been a week since he left. I don't know if I should be happy that I didn't die. Nigel will find me, I can't escape from him. I should thank my savior though , I don't want to be an ingrate. I don't even know his name. Will he really throw me into the ocean?. He might be just like Nigel or worse. Why is my life such a nightmare? I couldn't even die. I was lost in my thoughts when I heard a knock on the door.

   "Who is it?", Jenna asked. "Liam", He replied. "Can I come in?", Liam asked. "Sure", Jenna replied. "Boss is back and he wants to see you."

     As Liam said that sentence, my heart began to pound. I was scared, what would he say?. I was pondering  when he entered. His face was  cold. I was scared. Liam left and his boss sat down on a chair in front of me.

    "I realized I didn't introduce myself. I'm Kai Xiao", He said with a smile. It only increased my fear. His face screamed innocence. He reminded me of Nigel and I bursted into tears. Kai wasn't surprised, I couldn't stop it and I wept profusely. He didn't tell me to stop crying, he didn't even look at me.

     "I understand why you're crying", Kai said. "I didn't think you would jump, it was thrilling. I had to jump in immediately." Kai said still not making any eye contact. "I'm sorry I interrupted the sharks' dinner." He apologized.

    When he finished speaking, I had stopped crying. He was right , I was scared to jump off that cliff, but it was the only way I could escape from Nigel. He faced me and he wiped away my tears with his fingers. "I'll make sure you don't have to cry anymore." Kai said reassuringly.

    "Do you even know my name?", I asked. "You're Jenna Beyers." He said as he looked into my eyes. His eyes were cold and heartless. Then suddenly, he smiled. "I had Liam do a background check on you. I wanted to know why you decided to commit suicide." He added. It's really fascinating how he switches from cold and fearless to innocent and cute.

        I have bigger problems. I'm dead if Nigel finds out I'm alive.

         "You shouldn't have saved me. He's gonna find me." I said as I fought back more tears. "You're cute. Nigel isn't coming near you. I promise you that." Kai said and stood up. "You don't believe me do you?, I'm capable of a lot of things. A lot." Kai said as he held my hands. "I'll make him pay, I promise ", Kai said and turned to leave.

    "Don't go," I found myself saying. I didn't want him to leave. "What did you want to talk about?", He asked as he sat down. "You said your name is Kai, is it a nickname?", I asked . "I'm Chinese," he said. "I don't look asian, I know", He added as he looked into my eyes.

       "Am I gonna live here with you?", I asked fearfully. "You don't want to?," He asked. "You can always go back to Nigel", He said and smiled. He was a weirdo.

       "You must be bored", He said. ", That's why I invited my sister to keep you company." He said. "Liam didn't say you had any siblings?", I said confusedly. "You've been asking about me?, how curious are you?." He asked as his eyes lit up. He is such a weirdo. He had the eyes of a Pegasus. He looked ethereal, but that's none of my business.

        "Sorry I'm late", a lady said as she entered." I had to escape from mom", she added. "This is my little sister, Mei", Kai said. "Hi", Mei said. "Hi, I'm Jenna", I replied and Mei smiled.

       "Okay, I have things to do. Mei, work your magic", Kai said and left. Mei smiled and sat next to me. "I want to  know how you ended up with my awful brother", Mei said. "He saved me", I replied.  "Save?", Mei asked wondering what I meant. "I tried to commit suicide but he saved me", I said trying not to make a eye contact.

       "If I may ask?, why did you try to commit suicide", Mei said. "I was trying to get away from my husband", I replied.  "He was abusive", I added trying my best not to cry. "I understand how you feel, Jenna", Mei said. "My ex husband was also abusive. There are times when he tried to kill me, it was so unbearable. I didn't want my brothers to find out because I was scared of what they would do to him", Mei added.

      "What happened to him?", I asked out of curiosity. "He's dead. Kai killed him ", She replied.  I was shocked beyond comprehension. "I'm serious. Kai killed him", She repeated. " Our mom was also abused by our dad. Kai promised that I would never experience what mom went through . When he found out, he went ballistic and  killed him." Mei said and wiped her tears.

      " Enough about men", Mei said and turned to face me. "I wanna know more about you", She added.  "There's not much to know", I replied. "Come on", Mei pleaded. God, she was so cute. "Well, I wanted to be a designer but he didn't let me", I said." That's awful", Mei said. "Don't worry though, we'll make your dream come true", Mei said reassuringly. Everything felt less worse, I'm still scared though. I hope living here with Kai isn't a mistake.

       Mei excused herself and left the room. I stood up and pulled the blinds. I don't think Nigel's capable of killing anyone but Kai is. This feels like a dream. The only problem is that I'm not waking up. I really hope I don't regret failing to die.
