The Love They Never Had

This will be my final fan fiction piece of the historical fiction drama 'My Country: The New Age.' Of all the foreign dramas and movies that I have watched from Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle-East, this underrated and often over-looked Korean drama has emotionally torn me apart in every way possible even 3 years after the drama itself came out. Not a day has gone by where I do not think of the anguish that Nam Seon-Ho (Woo Do-Hwan) went through the en tire drama and how it only got worse after the death of his only friend's sister. There are virtually no romantic scenes between the two characters, and yet the toll that her death takes on him can only be described as a young man who has his entire life ripped out of his soul. Many fan's of the drama may still assume that Seo Yeon and Seon-Ho only maintain a sibling relationship, but the romantic in me refuses to believe that Nam Seon-Ho did not fall in love with the only woman who cared for him and loved him. This fan fiction story will be broken down into multiple parts, as I am currently trying to intertwine the projects of the actors 'Yang Se-Jong', Jo Yi-Hyun' & 'Woo Do-Hwan'... it might take a long time for this story to be complete so keep an eye out! 1 of 10 stories with the same cover.

Chapter 107: Josa (Probe)

I decided to make my intentions more clear to Hwi without having to actually approach him when I followed Yeon on her 'date'. I guess I didn't know what jealousy truly was until I saw other men courting her but...it was oddly refreshing to have a woman who wasn't interested in entraining other man, even it was for the reasons that she had. I saw her outside the gibang getting ready by the women...she looked so damned good that it wasn't fair at all that I had to let another man see her dressed like this. Even if Yeon wasn't going to give anyone the time of day I didn't want anyone getting ideas either. The minute she made her way inside I followed her before Hwi could who I pushed out of the way and closed the door on his face childishly as I stealthily followed her into the room and I hid behind some curtains before she could see me.

Not even a minute later Hwi came bursting in the room looking around for me "what happened oraboni?" "Where is he?" "Who are you talking about? He's not even here yet right?" I had to cover my mouth with my hand to stop myself from laughing, this was honestly the best I had felt in such a long time. He didn't even have time to say my name as her date finally arrived; just the look of him had me dying on my knees. He was just a scrawny little boy who didn't have any muscle on him at all. In fact he still looked like a student and I could already tell that all of the clothes and gifts he had brought with him were paid by his parents. He brought Yeon everything that traditional girls liked...and what Yeon couldn't stand. I didn't even need to hide, I could already tell where this was going before it even began.

I could tell he was nervous from a mile away although I did not like the look he had on his face when he first saw her. So I made my presence known before he could even greet her. "Hello Yeonna, my love, what are you doing here?" The reactions from both siblings were priceless; Hwi looked like he wanted to strangle me right there and then whilst Yeon just kept blushing and was doing everything she could to avoid my gaze. "Get the hell out of here" Hwi hissed to me. "Why should I do that? I'm the one that she lived with for the past 4 years alone so of course I care about her well-being." I was being as loud as I could without shouting and I didn't care who noticed. "Who...is this?" The young man asked Hwi who I could tell was itching to reach over the table and knock my head off. It was rare for me to see him in big brother mode like this since Yeon hadn't really needed any parenting since she turned 10 years old so I did try to keep in line...barely.

"I'm the man who fed her, clothed her, housed her and educated her for 4 years whilst her brother was off at war and working for the 3rd prince. I watched her grow up at the the age of 5 so I have every right to be here as well if this is a matchmaking date." "Educated? Ah yes...I did indeed hear that your sister is indeed educated but I don't know which subjects..." "Literature, history geography, medicine, military science and the usual women's education as well." I answered without hesitation. "Yeonna, do you want to start serving the tea whilst I show him all of he embroiders that you made me?" She looked completely shocked as I took out a handful of things she had made for me that I had no choice but to reject to her face quite coldly in the beginning. What she didn't know though was that I went to her room as soon as she was out in the market on her days out looking for the things she made me and I always kept it in my robes. I looked over at Hwi who looked like he wanted to strangle the both of us this time as her date looked over at her in shock. "My goodness...for a woman to receive such an education...isn't it a little...wasteful to just become a wife?" "That's exactly what I've been saying, maybe we will get along after all." She flashed him a brilliant smile that was almost immediately wiped off the minute I had my hand on her backside when she served me tea. I held on tighter when she had stopped searching so that she had no choice but to stay in the spot as I watched the poor boy just get more and more flustered. "You two...appear to be quite close then." "I was her first love, there is not a single soul in the village who will tell you otherwise. She used to openly run after me whenever I saw them both." "And...when she lived with you...?" "She could barely keep her hands off of me." I chuckled. That was all I needed to say to officially scare him off a she made his excuses and left just as Hwi managed to get across the table and give me a little beating that I could handle since we used to do it after our sparring bets.

Yeon separated us after a while as I stayed on the floor, bloodied and bruised as I hadn't raised a single hand on him and I could tell that although it pissed him off even more But he was finally starting to understand, although I could tell that he wasn't prepared for it at all, that's why he was acting this way. "What the hell is your problem? What do you want?" "Get off me so I can tell you!" I retorted, I had better be compensated for the lengths that I was going through. "I...am setting into my work, things are going well for me and I'm already rich thanks to my father. And even though it's barely been a year...I want a family now." "So what? You know you have plenty of noble women at your disposal at the palace now..." "Hwi..." I gave him my warning tone as he of all people should know why I wasn't going approach anyone. "I need a woman who understands me and knows me inside and out. Her background makes no difference to me, but I want an educated wife...and someone who can fight her own battles since she will have to be introduced at the palace as my wife officially. And...I will not take in any concubine or mistresses at all." "Are you sure you can be that faithful?" "Don't you know me?" I asked him, sensing the nervousness in his tone. "Ok...so...you want our help finding you wife?" "I've found one already." I snapped at him in a sarcastic tone; god only knows how much I missed him and thought about him every day in the last 4 years. But I had to admit, there were some things that I didn't miss about him at all; his beating around the bush was certainly one of them. "What..." "I want to marry your sister, so I've formally come to ask you for her hand."
