Chapter seventeen

Gavin had arrived at Amelia's apartment minutes ago and was pacing about. He seemed upset and had avoided Amelia's lips as she made to welcome him.

"She asked me to drop her off in the middle of nowhere!" Gavin exclaimed. "You didn't tell me that your friend had such attitude. I left her there." He walked into her living room and flopped into one of the couches.

Amelia went over to where he was sat, bearing drinks in her hands. She handed one over to him.

"That's a stupid thing for you to do." Amelia said. "Now, she's going to suspect something is wrong. You would have begged her to reason with you. You just gave her a benefit of doubt."

"The deed had been done. No need to get all upset." Gavin pointed out.

Amelia scoffed. She placed her drink on the coffee table sitting at the middle of the room and took a seat opposite Gavin. She chose to avoid him and that was because she was mad that he had waved her off like she meant nothing to him when she tried to give him a kiss. It made her doubt the credibility of the sex they had days ago. But not to worry, maybe he was just that way because of all that had been happening.

Amelia's phone rang and as her eyes came in contact with the caller id, her lips lifted up in a smile. She shifted to the edge of her seat, causing Gavin to be attentive.

"It's Finley," She said to him and swiped the green icon dancing in her screen. "Hello. What's the update?"

Gavin was giving her an expectant look. He just hoped that all they had planned would fall in place like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. A smile on Amelia's face told him that they're plans had turned out well. He relaxed on his seat, waiting for her to be done with the call.

"What did he say?" Gavin asked.

Amelia turned off her phone and placed it on her lap. Though, she would have loved to stay mad at him, she couldn't help but smile enthusiastically. "She's heading over to the club."

"Okay," Gavin was not satisfied enough. Amelia was not giving him details and it made him feel like he was being left in the dark. Earlier today, she had told him that she had a plan but failed to tell him what the plan was. "After that?"

"So, here's the plan," Amelia began. She took a sip before she continued talking. "Remember we have access to a few papers and we need to have a hold on the important ones. That way, it'll be easy for us to execute our plans and strip her off everything. I ordered for Eva's kidnap because I noticed that they have a cordial relationship and Vivienne is not the type to let people pay for what they didn't bargain for. I was sure that Eva's kidnap would put her in temporary panic. Which was why I asked you to go to the office and take those papers."

"Duplicates," Gavin corrected. "What I took were duplicates."

"We can work with that." Amelia said with a dismissive wave of hand.

She continued. "I have an idea that she already contacted The Chief Police of WPD."

Gavin was flabbergasted. "How the hell were you able to do that?"

A sinister chuckle escaped her lips. "I and Marcus had a thing in the past and the dude doesn't seem to have moved on. I used that opportunity to work in my favor and fortunately for me, it did."

Gavin had to give Amelia credit for being really smart and ambitious. All these while, he had no idea that everything was working in his favor. He beat himself up for trying to convince Vivienne out of going to meet the man. It was all good, though. All was falling according as they had planned.

According to all Eva had planned.

"So, she calls him and he tells her what to do. Vivienne is very indecisive and he manipulated her easily and she must be extremely confused right now. That way, she'll end up making stupid mistakes. I know her like the back of my palm." Eva said proudly and leaned back against the couch, taking a sip from her drink.

"How long have you been making all these plans?"

Amelia shrugged. "Quite a while now."

"That's crazy. You must have been so obsessed with her wealth. You're not a good friend." Gavin spited.

Eva seemed to be enjoying all he was saying. A small smile was plastered on her lips. "I've never been a good friend. Just one who's very good at pretending."

Gavin shook his head and somewhere in his heart, he felt a little pity for Vivienne. She was a beautiful woman but had issues with trusting people. But, that was none of his business. He was more interested in getting all he wanted.

"So, what did Marcus say? What's his duty in this game?"

"Vivienne trusts him more than her guts. So, she's going to tell him every detail of what she's doing. I'm sure she's not going to tell him about her visit to the club. I am sure of that. Marcus gives me every detail of all she tells him and he in turn, makes her feel like she has gone to the right place. She's going to have a heart attack if she finds out later. But, I do not care anyways."

"You didn't tell me everything relating to the club saga."

"Oh, I totally forgot." Eva said. "She's going to be threatened after she finds out that Eva is dead—"

Gavin flew out of his seat before Amelia could complete her statement. That wasn't what they had planned. "What the fuck did you just say?! Hell! Did you have to kill the innocent lady? What the fuck are you doing, you extremist?!"

But Eva did not flinch. Instead, she watched Gavin rant in amusement. When he was done, Eva stood up from her seat and walked to where he stood. She placed a hand on his chin but he turned away, fuming. She wasn't deterred by his action. "Look, Eva was going to be in the way if we let her live. She's too smart for her own good and will be an obstacle. Getting rid of her was the best option."

"You're evil." Gavin spat.

"I know, right? And if you're not careful," Eva grabbed his chin again. Harder this time as she forced him to look at her. "You'll join her soon."

To that, Gavin burst into laughter. "I'm so afraid, Eva. Who do you think you are? A spoilt brat who can't contain her jealousy. Vivienne is far better than you are and no matter what you do, you'll live with the fact that all you have in the future still belongs to her!"

Eva moved away from him. Gavin smiled. He had hit the right spot. Eva liked to think and act like she was invincible. Gavin would show her that he was superior to her in many ways.

When she turned back to look at him, her eyes were brimming in tears. "You know nothing, Gavin. You know nothing about all that's going on."

Gavin shook his head and stalked towards her. "I know everything, darling. You are consumed with so much jealousy and in your quest to take all that belongs to her, you are becoming outrightly delusional."

"Gavin! Don't speak to me like you're not part of this. You're making me look like I'm the only villain in this quest. You're also part of it all no matter how hard you try to make it look like it's my fault. You're part of it!"

Gavin shrugged. "I never disagreed to that notion in the first place. All I did was remind you the reason why you're doing all these. We're all villains in this story."
