"How did it all end?" Celia asked, determined to find out more. "I assume the situation came to a head with your sister?"
"It did and it was so ugly. When Ilse found out about Leo and I, she confronted me. In the queen's presence chamber, of all places." Violet admitted. "I wanted to defend myself, but how could I? I knew what I'd gone and done.
"We had the most awful quarrel of our lives. I tried to tell Ilse that Leo's actions showed he didn't really care about either of us, that we shouldn't let a mere man come between us. She didn't listen. She just slapped my face in front of all the ladies."
"She did that in front of Grandmother Celia?"
"Yes." Violet grimaced. "The queen was furious, of course, at such a fight happening right in front of her. Even more furious when she realised it was a fight about her precious, badly behaved boy."
