Dinner was a very uncomfortable matter that day. For Edrey anyway. Teremie and Gorover did not seem to have a problem shoving food down their throats. Edrey played with the light soup that was on his plate. He smiled at Teremie every few minutes, and rubbed his hair, coaxing him to eat his food.
Once the meal was done, he carried both their dishes and walked out of the room, leaving the two males. His younger brother had just turned fourteen, but he was almost as tall as their older brother was at that age. There was no doubt that the younger boy would differentiate into an alpha.
And at the same time, there was the possibility that he would differentiate into an omega as he did. Edrey brought his hand up to rub the rough leather that was strapped around his neck. Even though his parents had not explicitly stated it, he had felt their slight disappointment once they learned that he was an omega.
This was even though he had all the traits of an alpha of their family, he was an omega.
He had even manifested the ice ability like all alphas of his family did once they turned ten, his hair was a pale white and he towered over even betas. Even then, he had still differentiated into an omega.
Both his mother and father were alphas, so it was hard for them to understand what he was going through as an omega. In fact, he was the only child to differentiate into an omega in both his mother's and father's family in over a century. His parents did not want the omegas who had married into the family to be the ones to guide him. Thus, it took quite some time for his parents to understand how to handle him.
His mother was the one to buy him a collar, and his father was the one to buy pheromone blockers suitable for an omega for him. However, thankfully, they did not treat him any differently from before. He was still considered the one to take over after his father who was the leader of one of the military camps. His mother was still the one who ensured that no one found out about his omega status outside the family.
The strap for the collar his mother had bought him was thin enough to hide under his clothes, so only a few people who were expressly close to him knew of the fact that he was an omega. The blockers that they bought for him were also strong enough to hide his scent even when he was in estrus. His parents had even ventured into omega protection once they discovered that he was an omega.
They spearheaded into learning more about his secondary gender and helped him purchase the best medicine and items to assist with his heat.
However, most of the time, his heat just wouldn't come. Or rather, his heat was irregular.
He was the problem, without a doubt. Once they were done eating, Edrey nodded at Gorover, and carried the snoozing Teremie in his arms, "Have a good night, Rover."
"Wait." Gorover held the edge of his shirt, which made Edrey pull over to a stop.
Edrey took in a deep breath before turning to face Gorover, "Hm?"
"Can we meet after you put Teremie to bed? Aunt and uncle won't be back till late, so we can…"
"No." Edrey immediately refused. He turned to look at Gorover, a small smile on his face, "I promised Terry that I would sleep in his room together today." With a yank on his shirt, he had walked out of the room, leaving Gorover alone.
--
Three family of the family of five were gathered downstairs, with Edrey's father seated at the head of the table. He was a tall man, although much taller than Edrey, with dark-colored skin and pale white hair atop his head. His icy blue eyes were concentrating on his wife, and he had a small smile on his face as he spoke to her.
Teremie, the youngest family member had his spoon stuck inside his mouth although there was nothing he was eating. He played with the spoon in his mouth until the door to the dining room was pushed open.
Inside walked Edrey. His slightly long curly pale white hair was tied in a small bun at the nape of his neck, and he was wearing a white turtle neck and a black baggy pair of pants underneath. A small smile made its way onto his face once he saw his father. He walked up to the older man and before speaking, "Father, I did not think you would be up this early."
The older man had a love for his sleep time, so he usually never made it to join them for breakfast. He laughed, a deep throaty chuckle, as Edrey pushed his seat back and sat, "I did not think you would join us today either, but I was taking my chances." He stretched his hand out to greet his son. "Good morning, did you sleep well?"
Not taking to account the nightmares that had seemingly kept him up the whole night, Edrey bobbed his head up and down, "I did, what about you all." He turned his head to his mother and Teremie.
Teremie was seated next to him while his mother was seated opposite them. With one swoop, Edrey had yanked the spoon out of Teremie's mouth and placed it back on the table. His younger brother looked at him with a pout.
"Good morning, brother." The younger brother still said although his spoon had been snatched from him. Then, his lips pulled down in a pout, "You promised to stay with me all night, but when I woke up, you were already gone." He grumbled, crossing his arms over each other.
Edrey chuckled, rubbing the younger one's locks, "I wasn't feeling well yesterday." Edrey ruffled the white hair, "But what if I promise to sleep with you after I feel better?"
Teremie, as if forgetting that Edrey had failed to sleep with him the previous night, jumped up and down on his chair, "Really?" he wound his long arms around his brother's neck. "You're the best, big brother." He rubbed his cheeks down the cloth that covered Edrey's neck.
"Morning." Marlyssa, their mother echoed his greeting, "Is your fever down?"
Edrey bobbed his head, as he pulled Teremie's hands off of his neck. "Mhm. Just in case, I have taken my meds and I've carried extra with me." He took a small pack of pills from his trousers pocket and waved them in the air.
"You're going to school?"
"Mhm." Edrey bobbed his head as a bot drove up to his side of the table and placed his meal in front of him. "I also have to meet with Angelo and Nawilla, but that might be in the afternoon. I'll tell you if I might be late. We won't be going far though, just to the coffee shop that is outside the academy." He waited as the bot drove around the table, placing everyone's meal in front of them.
"Just ensure that you tell either me or your mother if you are going to be late." Their father said. This was one of the small things that had changed ever since he differentiated into an omega. Although they did not show it, they worried for him more often than they did before.
"Alright." Then he glanced at the seat next to his mother, "Isn't Gorover coming for breakfast. He doesn't sleep in."
Unlike him who preferred staying in his room and in his bed all day, Gorover would be up and about by six in the morning. Marlyssa shook her head as she scooped the sunny side-up egg out of her plate and dumped it into her husband's plate. "No. He went to bring his future wife. Fervard's birthday is the day after tomorrow. We should at least be sure that she has the clothes for such an occasion, should we not?"
With clean motions, she had already begun slicing the toast that was on her plate. "There's also the issue of having a background check done on her." The head of the family spoke. "Not that we do not trust Gorover's choice, but there are a lot of people who would do our family harm through him."
"I agree."
Edrey sat silently on the side, listening as his parents argued over how Gorover's omega would look, and whether she would fit their standards. Gorover might have been only a child they took in, but they still treated him as they would their own three children.
With his stomach churning, Edrey shoved food down his throat. Once he was half done, he stood, "Excuse me, mother, father, I have to leave now, lest I am late."
Marlyssa looked up as her son stood, "Alright, but ensure you come back quickly. The hovercar was already prepared for you."
"Thank you, mom," he bowed at the waist, plopping a kiss on Teremie's forehead. He then allowed his mother to place a kiss on his own forehead, and waved at his father, before leaving the room. Before walking out of the house, he swiped one of his brown coats that sat on the coat wardrobe that was close to the door.
Outside, the sun shone on his face, and he raised his head up, allowing the white locks on his head to get a slight shimmer. Then, he opened his red eyes, looking down at the maid and driver standing at the bottom of the stairs.
