The misty shadows which had caused the figure to appear taller than it was, dispersed.
From the figure, a feminine voice began to curse at Red. "You damn bastard. Is this how you treat a lady? Let me go! Let me go I say!"
Red tilted his head slightly, looking down at the female. Her hair was a light purple, long, and fell down to the backs of her knees. Her skin was a light chocolate color and there was also a small pair of wings fluttering on her back. However, the wings were too small for her to actually fly with them.
She was much shorter than the alpha was, with her height reaching just below his chest. She pouted and looked up. "I won't steal any more treats from the kitchen if you make me a small batch too." She rubbed her cheek onto his shirt.
Red grimaced and pushed her body away from him. "Don't." He let go of her and walked to the couch. She was left hovering a few inches over the floor for a few seconds, before raising the long black dress she was wearing. A slender leg landed on the floor. Her toenails were painted a dark purple color that matched the color of her hair.
Her red eyes blinked as she took a small step to where he was seated. She sunk to her knees and lay her head on his lap. There was a moment of silence before she spoke up once again. "Was that them?" She had hesitated for a while before speaking.
Red allowed her to lay her head on his lap and raised a hand to run his fingers through her silky hair. "Yes. It is them."
"They were all tall. They must be alphas. Do you not think that they have enough strength to protect themselves?" She purred slightly as his hands ran down her scalp.
"They certainly can, but even then. I am indebted to them."
Avery looked up once she heard those words. Her red eyes blinked once, then twice, before she shook her head. "Alright." She flexed her hand muscles, "I shall assist you in your quest, master."
Red visibly grimaced once she addressed him, "Since when are you so formal." He patted her head thrice, indicating that she should move.
She followed his silent instruction and raised her head from his lap. "Which one is it I am contracted to protect." She asked as she watched him stand from the couch. He padded barefoot to the kitchen.
She licked the back of her hand with her tongue twice before following him to the kitchen on all her fours. Red tilted his head slightly, as he took flour from his cabinet. "I wouldn't say you should protect, seeing as you are almost as strong as all of them."
"Hmph." Avery harrumphed, "I will have you know that there is no normal human who can be stronger than I am."
Red stopped pouring flour into a bowl and looked back at her. She was seated on the floor, her legs crisscrossed over each other. The space she was seated on had a small square carpet, which would prevent her from being cold with her usual weird habits.
"Did I not tell you this before?" He put back the extra flour and took out a small bottle that was half-filled with sugar. "The White family is well known for their ice ability. In this generation, Edrey White has the strongest ice ability. Meanwhile, the Malika family is blessed with the fire ability. Although she is not the strongest, due to the fact that she can operate mechas, Angelo Malika is very strong herself. Due to the metal ability of the Vorster family, they are able to create mechas more easily. However, they can very well use their ability to battle."
He returned the sugar to its place and picked up a smaller bottle with salt. He measured a small amount and tossed it into the flour. "Thus, if just two of them were to seriously come at you, they could very possibly kill you."
Avery pouted. "Well, there must be a reason why you contracted with me. If I am much weaker than them, then what is my duty?" She stood from her position and slowly walked up to Red and poked her hand into the flour he had mixed up. "I have a splendid idea. Let me stay here with you until that time."
Red did not stop his movements, as he pulled another bowl from the bottom drawer. This, he broke two egg whites into. He tossed that bowl under the electric whisk and pressed a button, leaving it to stir.
Avery walked up to the whisk and watched the handle turn over and over as if she was entranced by it. "The first to die will be Edrey White," Red said as he picked up another bowl and started mixing the wet ingredients into it.
As an afterthought, he picked up the vanilla essence instead of the chocolate essence. "So that's who I should protect first? He is the one with the white hair, is he not?"
"Yes."
Avery took the sugar from its place and dipped a finger into it. She stuck the finger into her mouth, and her eyes curved up as the sweet taste burst in her mouth. "Alright." She patted down her long black dress.
Before his eyes, she began to shrink, and in a few moments, all that was left in her place was a dark-brown cat with red eyes.
The cat purred as it took a few steps forward and rubbed her body around his legs. "Alright then. I shall entrust him to you, Avery."
'Don't worry.' Her cheeky voice filtered into his head, 'With how cute I look as a kitty cat, there's no way they won't take me in.'
With that, in a puff of smoke, she had disappeared from the house. With her absence, the house immediately fell into silence.
