My Greatest Fear

~~~(POV: Lyatt Scott)~~~

~~~(Date: February 7th, 2297)~~~

I hold my father's hand as the machine breaths for him. The medical equipment keeps going, making noises that make anyone afraid of hospitals panic. I've had nightmares of this day, my father dying in front of me. Completely powerless to stop it. I'm his only son. We did everything... "It's okay..." I have to look down and avoid eye contact. It's too painful. Even though it's an illusion, my father died suffering. I can't stand to watch this, even if it's a replay of past events. "Favor..." He mumbles the single word.

I know what he's going to ask... He asked me once before. I lift my head, and my tears are falling like no tomorrow. "Anything, dad..." I say the same thing as last time. This wasn't true the last time I said it cause I never imagined... This time I mean it. I'll do anything. Even... My face contorts in pain as I think about what he's about to ask. He looks at me and sees my pain, and I watch tears fall from his eyes. Every moment in this room is repeating itself. He lets go of my hand and points to the power plug that's a part of the machine helping him breathe.

My insides tear, and I feel like throwing up. "Pull... Plug..." I break down and cry uncontrollably. He asked me to pull the plug... To end his pain and suffering... To move onto the next life... You don't know how much it hurts to be asked that by a parent. To be asked to kill them... I raise my head, and the same feeling of not wanting to do it is there. Overwhelming even, but even though this moment isn't real. I'm going to do what he asks. I nod my head, and I lean up on the bed. I kiss my father's forehead for the last time, and I reach for the cord.

I pull the plug out, and the machines start to go off, but no one comes. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..." All I can do is repeat the same words over and over again. "I'm so sorry, dad... Please forgive me..." I know that he asked me to do it, but it doesn't make it any less painful. I listen to the heart monitor flat line, and I feel like my world is shattered. Last time I was too weak to pull the plug... To let him free of his misery... After a few seconds, everything around me fades away. I sit on the ground. "RRRAAAAHHH!!!" I scream and scream at the pain.

I slam my fist into the rock over and over again. I lay my forehead against the ground and let the tears out. "I'm so sorry, dad..." I'm saying sorry for not pulling his plug, for making him suffer cause I was too afraid. Mom wasn't strong enough to do it, and my sisters couldn't bear to see dad like that. It makes the memory and pain worse since I didn't pull the plug for him... I claw at the dirt and punch the ground more, thinking about the pain I put him through... From being too scared... In the middle of my suffering, the system pops up.

I curse the uncaring screen in front of me. I throw my hand out in an attempt at destroying it, only for it to go through. I choke on my own sobs as I wave it away. I crawl around the dark room and find a wall to lay against. I can't think straight. All I feel is hollowness, pain, and loss. Reliving that isn't something that I ever wanted to do. Or to ever do again. I look around in the darkness, and I can see perfectly. It must be one of my new skills or passive buffs. I stand up and make my way deeper into the cave. After a bit of searching, I find James' Shoe, and the quest is updated.

The EXP is added and the quest disappears along with the shoe. Devin said this would happen. The entire quest is just a front to bring in someone the Darkness thinks worthy. I passed. I exit the cave and it's already getting late. I was in there for longer than I thought. I open the Player Tab to see where I'm at in power.

Summon a shield in front of you that negates 1000 Physical damage and Magical Damage.

Wrap yourself in a cocoon of Darkness to block 2000 Physical and Magical damage from all directions.

As Darkness Incarnate, you have the most potential for power in Libertas. Plus 100 mana every player level up. Start with a 1000 base mana.

[First Mythical Class Wielder]

You're the first Mythical Class wielder in Libertas. 10% EXP gains for Player and Skill levels.

[Nor Good, Nor Evil]

The Darkness is considered neutral but is of the greatest power. All organizations of Good, Neutral, and Evil will not disrespect you openly.

[Mental Immunity]

Your mind is impenetrable to mental attacks and readings. All people who try to gaze into your mind will have to fight the Darkness to keep their sanity.

[Dark Vision]

You can see perfectly in total and complete darkness.

Lyatt Scott is the only person in all of Libertas to have a Mythical Grade Class. The Darkness Incarnate is a class of extreme power and potential, the strongest there is. As an Incarnate, Lyatt Scott is essentially the Darkness given form. He isn't evil, but he's not good either. The Darkness is the Darkness. It just is.
