“I cannot come to you with my problems when you have the weight of the kingdom on your shoulders. I would rather suffer in silence so I do not bother the king-” “Your husband,” Tobias corrected Hazel, placing his hands on her shoulders to comfort her as her eyes filled with tears. It pained him that he had not noticed how much the palace had been slowly breaking her. “I am your husband first. Do not hide your sadness from me,” he said, wiping away a single tear that slipped away with his thumb. … Hazel Wallace never thought she would make it far when she was picked to enter the selection for the next queen. "What I said years ago has not changed. I am not bringing someone into our marriage and you cannot do it."
Hazel laughed as it was funny to hear him mention her wanting a man. She was not allowed to have another man in her life. She wasn't granted that same privilege so should she ever be found with another man it would be quite the scandal.
It would be the perfect way to lose her crown but even then, she wouldn't be allowed to leave the palace.
"There is no other man I want in my life. You are already much to put up with," Hazel joked.
Hazel could laugh now but she would later be saddened by having to think that with no news to offer about a child, she would have to face Tobias picking a woman who might be able to provide an heir. And should that woman not have a child, he would need another.
