14 . Holding The Fort Part 1 [ sightly Edited ]

LOACATIOAN : Big Bear Lake

TIME : 6:00AM

POV : SARAH

Sarah quickly shot of from the warm bed that enclosed her into rushed breaths . She was panicking as she awoke from the nightmare . Her parents , her mom and dad , they were dead . 

/ SOBING SOUNDS / 

Sarah felt a warm pair of hands encircle her . Gently comforting her sadness an she held on tightly seeking the barest comfort she could from the stranger who had come to her rescue . 

She remembered last night . How cold the lake water was , her hopelessness as she waited for her parents to come for her but it never happened . Then she remembered her fathers face , as he tried to hold back the assailants so her and her mother could run . Pointless . 

Her mother's sweet smile also came to mind , how she willingly acted as a distraction so that she could run away . 

Sarah despised their sacrifice , she despised that they died and left her alone and more than ever she despised the people that took them away from her .

< Sarah's childish mind could not handle the trauma it had undergone , so in the process of saving her from herself . A new emotion was born . > 

Sarah felt foreign in her own body . She felt different . Like something in her had died yesterday only to be reborn today . She felt a surge of something rise in her very being making it hard to breathe . A violent eruption that threatened to burst from her but she could not comprehend how to handle this sudden changes . 

Unknown to her , the stranger had already moved them to the backyard of the cabin and she felt the cold morning wind wash over her body .

The normal warmth she always felt from the morning sun was gone . The fresh breeze that would usually fill her with new life was no more . The only sort of comfort left in her life was the strange man that carried her 

" I's okay Sarah , I'm here for you ." Mika talked gently and soothingly . " You can cry Sarah . Just know that everything will eventually get better . "

Sarah knew that those words were the light in her darkness . Her eyes were closed tightly . She did not want to face this harsh reality . She wished for everything to be a dream . A long horrible dream that she would wake up from and find her parents alive and well .

" Open your eyes Sarah " Mika's voice came over the darkness she was in , urging her forward . But Sarah felt it , the moment she opened her eyes , their was no more turning back . Their was no more denying the truth .

" NO . . . LEAVE ME ALONE !!" Sarah shouted over the darkness . She did not want to move forward . She did not wish to feel this pain .

 Mikael started to sway her small body in his arms soothingly and she felt her anger lessen . " I know it's hard Sarah . I also lost someone very important to me once and I felt the same way you do . But , I realized they would be sad seeing what I had become . So , I gave my self a chance and moved forward Sarah . 

Sarah felt her waning resolve , she felt the acceptance start to grow in her and the numbness she felt being replaced by the warmth that came from Mika . Like a warm sun piercing through the darkness .

" You need to give your self a chance Sarah . For yourself and your parents , and I promise I will be there to help you as you go " 

That was the final straw that Sarah needed . She slowly opened her eyes and she saw the world held the same beauty it always had . There was no change but within her she knew life would never be the same again . 

Sarah gazed at the face of the person who held her tightly . The striking blue eyes and the sleek grey hair were things that immediately caught her attention . The stranger had a very beautiful face and Sarah internally thought he was an angel sent to pull her from her despair . 

She burned the face to memory , not wishing to forget a single detail . This was her last hope , her last pillar that would anchor her from breaking and she would cling to it tightly . Her hands increased their strength holding him .

" Hey Sarah , I'm Mikael . " Sarah felt the warmth radiating from him .The warm smile eased her numbness further . " I brought you here so you could see something . " Sarah instantly knew what Mikael wanted her to see .

There was no denying it anymore . It was better to face it once and for all . " Just know everything is going to be all right Sarah ." Sarah felt Mikael pat her head gently in comfort . It soothed her emotions , it relaxed her enough that she finally turned her head from Mikael's chest to where he wanted her to look . 

Two dirt mounds filled the otherwise spotless backyard . A pile of rocks covered one end of the mound and the other end was filled with beautiful flowers . Sarah knew what this was . A physical sign that represented what she already knew had happened and she accepted it .

She felt the tears run down her cheeks in acceptance but she still did not speak . She held onto her mother's necklace tightly , feeling it's cold touch with shocking clarity . She then felt the warmth from Mikael and she knew she would get better .

" They're in a better place Sarah . " Mikael told her gently as she nodded her head in . " should I give you sometime alone ." Mikael asked but she shook her head . She did not wish to be alone .

' Mom , Dad . I love you both ' She thought and for some strange reason she felt lighter .

She was still crying when she heard Mika talk once more . And she felt the calm she had started feeling disappear . Now , there was only fury . How could this be !!

POV : MIKAEL

" Sarah , don't you want to avenge your parents from the people who did this . " Mika asked his voice now sweetly gentle .

Mika knew what he was about to do was vile and completely wrong but would that stop him . NO . Was is wrong that what he would tell the girl would turn her into a murder hobo ? Completely 

" Shouldn't they also feel how you feel . " Sarah had stopped crying and was now fully focused on him . Mika felt her emotions darken , her intent aligning with what he was telling her . 

" Don't you want to make them pay ! " 

Maybe he should not have been doing this now , maybe Mika should have waited a couple of days before trying this . Maybe his words would change the future he knew of but did Mika care . No !!

What was the point of going to the random worlds if he could predict their future ?. What satisfaction would he get from a tale in which he already knew the ending ?. NONE !! No satisfaction at all . No enjoyment at all . He could live with the comfort of the plot but that would be boring !!

Mika accepted the being's offer for several reason . One that he would admit without denial was his desire to crush the very people that thought they were better than him . To stand at the top as he laughed at their anger and denial . 

The other reason was for the enjoyment , the shear unpredictability of what could happen . And that was why he told Sarah what he did . He wanted to see if she could match up to his desire . If she would be that screw that would break the entire machine . 

And , the girl also reminded him of his past self . 

Mika did not even know if he would ever come back to this world . If the being was correct , their could be millions of the same random world existing at once and the chances of him coming back to this very one could be infinitely low . 

But Mika did not care . 

His eyes locked with the Sarah's equally blue eyes and he saw their change . An emotion he was very familiar with had sprouted and taken roots , all it needed now was to grow .

" let me tell you a story about a rogue A.I called Skynet . "
