Now... That Was Unexpected!

A desolate scene, and littered corpses everywhere.

Blood replaced the white paint on the wall and entrails hanging from the bodies.

This was a gruesome sight but it was one that no one could have predicted because the person or rather, the thing, responsible was not human.

The hospital where the man was admitted to the night before had died and become a vampire.

He ran rampant and slaughtered everyone in sight.

The doctors assumed it was a patient gone rabid but never could they be more wrong.

They tried to subdue him but they lacked the strength to do so because the moment he fed, he became a vampire and not just transitioning.

They stood no chance, a lockdown was soon initiated and the doors were shut.

There was no way that something like this would go unnoticed as the few that managed to either escape or were trapped in the hospital spammed the lines of police officers.

The swift response of the police officers alleviated the worries of the citizens but it also drew unwanted attention as people circled to observe what was happening.

"Sergeant Murphy, we aren't receiving any response from the communication in the hospital nor can we see anyone close by…" A man with a rather forgettable face said to his Sergeant but Murphy, who had a grumpy face, had anything but a forgettable face.

The crease on his forehead was deep and his black hair styled in a buzz cut didn't help his grumpy-looking exterior.

"Damn it! Why couldn't this just wait a day!?" The Sergeant thought to himself, but he had a job to do and an operation to coordinate.

He raised his hand and a multitude of officers positioned behind him, numbering up to twenty.

And like a cheap imitation of a S.W.A.T sweep, they burst into the hospital with their guns drawn.

The reception area looked normal, there was nothing out of place here except it was abandoned.

The sunlight allowed them to take note of every detail in that compartment of the room.

They had to split up to cover more ground and they did just that, the hospital was quite big and the sweep began.

The first floor but what they saw next was sickening, and not all officers could remain in the building as a few ran out immediately to throw up.

They had never seen anything like this in their years on the force but those that remained kept advancing further and further.

They noticed the curtains were shut but the flickering light gave this an ominous feeling right out of a horror movie.

The Sergeant's body was telling him to turn back and get the hell out of there but if he was this frightened, he could only imagine how scared those trapped inside were.

They walked at a slow, steady pace with their awareness peaked as their eyes searched for anything out of the ordinary because what was this carnage?

"A survivor!" One of the officers in the distance screamed as he saw an injured person with a huge gash across his chest, others quickly moved in to secure him but what happened made everyone question the life choices that brought them here.

The man that they thought alive sunk his teeth into the neck of the man that had called out, prompting the others to cautiously jump back in haste.

"Arrrggghhh!" His screen echoed and the Sergeant was speechless, he didn't know what was happening or what to do but luckily, his officers could think for themselves as they tried to yank their comrade away from the firm grip of the man but to no avail.

He was unnaturally strong, they mistook this person as someone that was simply sick and didn't want to kill him.

The Sergeant, however, wasn't having any of that and opened fire on the body, striking it right in the head.

But the man didn't let go, draining the officer of his blood, and killing him in the process. And with that blood, his injuries had healed.

He was transitioning and the blood of the officer had made him a full vampire.

In a panic, the officers opened fire on him, riddling every part of his body with bullets and the man stumbled and fell. He was still for a good five seconds.

"I-Is he dead?" One officer asked but no one dared go in front of it.

"Can you hear that?" Another officer asked, but everyone was confused as to what he was referring to; the sound drew closer and closer.

"What the fuck!?" The Sergeant questioned, they could hear a multitude of footsteps running towards them.

The numbers were so great that the floor shook, it felt like the hospital was about to collapse.

"RUN!!!" The Sergeant instructed as he watched the officer that was just killed convulse aggressively as well as the man that they had just put down standing up like it was nothing.

He didn't want to be a hero, he wanted to be alive and they ran.

But could they outrun the vampires as one by one, his men were snatched out of existence?

The Sergeant mustered up the courage to look over his shoulder and he saw an army of aggressive, rabid-looking individuals charging right at them, the crazed look in their eyes told the Sergeant that whatever virus or infection this was, it was something straight out of a zombie movie.

The cries of despair stopped, and The Sergeant realized he was the only one left.

"I had one more day to retire… Is this how I'm going to fucking die?" The Sergeant thought to himself, he was accepting the fate that awaited him.

"Duck~," A voice said and The Sergeant did just that, he saw a lady with a machete charging in the direction he was fleeing from and all she did was cut the curtain down to act as a barricade between the vampires and them.

The ones unfortunate enough to be caught by it burst into flames, dying on the spot but the transitioning vampires were unaffected. Unfortunately for them, they lacked the strength of vampires despite not being affected by the sun, but they numbered only seven.

The Sergeant watched as the girl beheaded them all with little to no difficulty with her machete, killing them.

The others gnawed their teeth at her but that was all they could do as they dare not allow the light to touch them.

He could sense people standing in front of him and darted his head in that direction.

Five people stood, And looked nothing short of intimidating with a logo imprinted on their clothes, "C", but the most intimidating among all of them was a man that we know too well.

It was Scarlett's father, George.

These acts had drawn the attention of the vampire hunters, a fate that would soon shape the world of not only Dante but Scarlett.
