Chapter 36

“Where’s Gideon?” Delilah asked, looking around with a worried frown.

“Recuperating,” Edan told her, quickly adding, “He wasn’t hurt. He needs to rest and recharge.”

“Thank goodness. So?”

“What happened?” Edan asked. She nodded, at which point he told them everything that had occurred in New York, ending with, “It’s a damned good thing we were almost to the exit when the sorcerer saw me or we might be Vicario’s guests in some cell he’s got for his enemies, before he tortures and kills them.”

“Not a pleasant thought,” Braden replied.

Edan agreed. “By the way, did you move the paintings?”

“I did,” Maeve said. “That way Braden and Delilah don’t know where they are.”

“By yourself?” Edan asked in surprise.

“Marcas helped me and then I wiped his memory of them and their new hiding place. Don’t worry, we were very careful that no one saw us or them.”

“Now if we could wipe your memory,” Edan teased.

“Then they’d be lost forever, which would be a shame,” she retorted.
