Chapter 14

The next morning, the basement served as the battleground for the continuation of their training. Courtney, still rubbing her eyes from the early hour, questioned, "So, what are we learning today?" Thomas, armed with a weapon, took charge, explaining the day's lesson. "You guys are learning how to channel your powers into your weapons," he announced. "You can channel your power into any weapon you grab, but first, you have to learn to channel your power into your chosen weapons."

"Okay, that should be easy," Kristen chimed in with a hopeful smile.

"Not always," Tierney interjected as she strolled into the basement and settled into a chair. "Sometimes it takes days, maybe years for someone to channel their powers into their weapon."

"How long did it take you?" Niall inquired, his gaze shifting between Thomas and Tierney. "It took me two years," Thomas replied, demonstrating by channeling his power into his weapon, causing flames to engulf it and turn it a fiery red. Tierney added, "It took me three weeks to channel mine. It really depends on the person and their mindset."

"So, it is different for each person," Katherine observed, her eyes fixed on the flaming dagger in Thomas's hand. "Yes, it is," Thomas confirmed, letting the flames dance on his hand. "Starting today, we will all learn how to channel and control our powers."

"So when you are all done channeling your powers," Selena said with a smile, first at Thomas and then at the kids, "I will teach you how to listen to your powers talk to you."

"What the hell?" all of them exclaimed.

"Yes, you can hear your powers talk to you," Thomas explained, flipping the flaming dagger. "It's how you know what to say when you use your weapon."

"It's called whispering," Tierney added, rising from the chair. "Let me show you." Thomas walked over to the dummies mounted on the wall and stated, "So when I whisper, it makes my weapon stronger."

Whispering "Flames," Thomas threw his dagger. As it soared through the air, it intensified in brightness and heat. Upon impact with the dummies, it was engulfed by flames so rapidly, lighting up the basement in a dazzling display, and then it vanished.

"Wow," Courtney exclaimed, rubbing her eyes once again.

"That was awesome, Thomas," Niall said, shock evident in his voice.

"So whispering is like your power activating inside the channeling," Kristen noted, directing her gaze at Tierney.

"Yes, it is, and it helps a lot," Tierney confirmed, sharing a smile with Kristen. "So, this will be fun," Katherine added, laughing.

"So then," Thomas said with a smile as he walked back to the kids, "let's get started. Niall, you'll go first," Tierney announced, looking at everyone and then at him.

"Okay," Niall agreed, walking over to the dummies that now stood engulfed by flames, ready to embark on the next phase of their training.
