Lanre had woken up to the sound of the telephone ringing. She had deliberately ignored it because she wanted to sleep. To her, whosoever was calling was disturbing her siesta.
But when she heard the doorbell ring, she decided to go answer whosoever was there. She felt it was one of the hotel attendant. She opened the door only to see a well dressed young man standing by. She frowned. “Since when do hotel attendants wear sunglasses and roll up their sleeves?” Lanre mumbled. Her words unheard by the young man in front of her.
“Who are you?” She asked. “Now I know why?” The young man said letting out a laugh that sounded irritating to Lanre. She wondered what he now knows. Then she asked him who he was looking for. He told her he came to find her. She arched her eyebrows. How could he come to find her when she has no clue who he has and she was sure he does not know her as well.
“What will make you come find somebody you do not know?” She asked. He laughed again. It was beginning to piss her off.
“I know you, but you didn’t know me until now”. He said to her. Then he stretched his hands towards her for her to take.
“I’m Christian! Let me take you out”. He said to her. Lanre found it funny. She wondered if he usually does that. “You meet a girl for the first time and you already want to take her out”. Just thinking about that, Lanre suddenly withdrew her hand from his. She had become weary of him. Nobody knows what he could be planning. She has no clue who he was. And telling her his name is Christian does not make him a Christian. And even if he was a saint, she wouldn’t trust him either. Not in this critical time where people go missing a lot.
“I don’t think you got the right room number. This is room 416”. She said attempting to shut the door. But he stops her from doing that by putting his leg in.
“Kehinde wants to see you”. He said. Lanre had run shut of words immediately. It felt too sudden. She had lost her thoughts immediately she heard that name. She wanted to see him and tell him she was crazy when she declined him. But now she would willingly accept him.
It took her a mental slap to realise she was going out of her mind. Kehinde would believe that she was returning because of his money. But that was the reason. It was money and affluence after all. She did not want to settle for a non entity. If she could have Kehinde, that would mean “less struggle” for her.
“Lanre!” The young man who had introduced himself as Christian called Lanre. He had realised she was already out in space and was totally lost. Lanre acted as though she had not lost herself to her thoughts in just few minutes ago
