The Goddess of Silence

Book 1 Synopsis: Ironically, there are many things that the gods of Creation wished didn't exist. Dark arts that can enslave the mind. Disgusting magic to mutilate the soul. Ancient demons who feed on the imagination of mortals to continue existing. The Taboo. It was for this purpose that the Will of the Universe created the goddess of Silence. The moment Silence opens her mouth to speak, the words she says can never be said or written of again. With Silence's power, the gods were hoping that she could erase all taboo knowledge by preventing anyone from speaking or writing of them. If this knowledge can no longer be taught or recorded, it'll eventually die out and be forgotten. It was a solid plan, but there are many hidden things in the Universe that won't allow Silence to grow up. _____________________________ Author Note: This book is currently being worked on. I feel like I rushed my previous book, "The Hall of Valor", so I'll be taking my time on this one. So... it might be a while before you see updates on this book. I'm only posting this now on Webnovel because I'd like people to know what I'm working on next. I also left a few chapters of my Draft chapters up so that my book will appear for you to read. This way, I can leave you a sample of the story while I continue working on it. (Note from March 2024. I'm nearly ready to start publishing chapters again.)

Entry 6: My First Name

-Me-

After the voice noises left my world and I lose consciousness, I woke up to find myself floating in a dark, empty place. I could no longer feel the ground beneath my feet, the air in my lungs, or the warmth on my skin. All was cold, empty, and dark. I remembered this place from long ago. It was the place I had come into existence; or at least, it greatly resembled it.

I remembered that there had been a strange grey skinned creature last time I had been here, and I looked around to see if it was here again. It wasn't, and I was alone. The thought disappointed me.

One thing that was different was that there was a softly glowing image beneath my feet. I had no real comprehension what sight was. I only know that there was an something beneath me that was burning into my mind. Strangely enough, I recognized the image. It was the same circular shape that my maker had put me through when I was dropped into my dark, stone world.

Just as I was beginning to wonder if anything was going to happen, I heard a voice in my head. The voice was unlike the voice of the grey skinned creature. I know because my maker had been making sounds to itself as it handled me.

Of course, I was curious about the voice in my head. It sounded… muddled… as if it were speaking through a wall. I didn't know the meaning behinds the sounds the voice made, so I only paid attention to it because it was something new.

I thought all the sounds would feel the same, but one grabbed my attention. "Felladin" was the sound, and hearing it seemed to change something inside me.

Upon hearing "Felladin", I felt an insufferable heat well up in my crystal heart. The heat quickly spread to the rest of my body, and I cried out in pain. I felt those metal bones I had been given heat up and liquify. I could vaguely tell that my bones were changing shape. They were getting longer.

Thankfully, the pain didn't last long, and I was left feeling exhausted.

I remember floating there for a long while – in shock over the painful experience I had gone through. Eventually, the pain dulled and I was able to focus on other things.

I grew curious about the sound that had caused some change in me, so I repeated it out loud to myself. "Fel...la…din…"

I noticed that the grey, soft glow below me got a little brighter. I looked down to see what happened, and there was a change to it.

I didn't really know how to describe what was different; I only knew that the shape became larger and more complicated.

Intrigued by what the sound did to the world, I repeated myself with more confidence. "Felladin!"

I felt the image grow larger and larger… or was it getting closer? I had no way of knowing the difference at the time, as the concept of sight wasn't intuitive to me yet. Moments later, I passed through the image and fell onto the hard stone of my dark world yet again.

_______________

At first, moving around in my dark, familiar world was a little confusing. I would bump into things and run into walls where I thought there were none. It was as if my world had shifted and become different. Was I in a different place?

I only realized that I had grown larger when I tried climbing up the shelves. Upon reaching for the first shelf, which was always chest high for me, I realized that my hand unexpectedly reached deep into the cuppy hole. After doing some quick investigating, I learned that I was now twice as tall.

I also found out I had become a lot stronger when I was rearranging the stone slabs in the shelved room. Before, it required some effort to move them, but now, it felt almost weightless.

I'll be honest. I was a little scared at first when I realized that I had seemingly transformed into another being. If I learned enough magic words, would I be as tall as the giant that made me? What else had "Felladin" done to me?

I opened my mouth and tried speaking the word aloud once again. "FELLADIN!"

I felt warmth gather at my skin. Then, I felt the heat sink into my blood and make its way to my heart. Once the heat reached my heart, it fell in and disappeared, leaving behind a numbing coldness to the air around me and the ground beneath me.

I was a little confused at the drop in temperature around me, and I moved to a different spot to see if this change happened everywhere. Thankfully, it had not. The only cold surfaces had been the ones I was touching.

Feeling my chilly skin, I grinned in excitement. I had just done something really cool?

For many years to come, playing around with my new abilities became the past time that replaced aimlessly throwing rocks.
