Marriage

Outside is snowing and from a far distance, you could hear horse galloping sounds.

Soon the horse stops in front of the palace entrance and the man got off his horse.

"General Gu!" The entrance guard bows to him.

Gu Muyan shows his paiza to the guard and then walked in. He just got back from the army base training his men and was told that the emperor wanted to see him.

Eunuch Zhang guided Gu Muyan in and then stood next to the emperor.

The emperor is only in his late 20s, and so every time it's only him and the general, people couldn't help and wonder how in this world could have two human being this handsome.

"Your majesty," Gu Muyan bows to Emperor Bai Li.

Emperor Baili stops writing and looks at Gu Muyan. He then told Eunuch Zhang to go out. Once everyone is out and it's only them, Emperor Baili got off his seat and walks up to Gu Muyan.

"Muyan, let's drop the formalities. Today I call you here to ask you a favor." Emperor Baili said with some doubt and hesitations.

Gu Muyan looks at him. He and the emperor have been friends ever since they were kids. Even when the emperor was still a prince, Gu Muyan has never seen him like this before. Gu Muyan knows that the emperor never hesitated to do things. But now from his eyes, Gu Muyan can see it's something serious.

"Yifei, what is it?" Gu Muyan dropped the formalities and calls the emperor by his name.

"Would you marry my sister, Baili Xue?"

Somewhere at the back palace, Baili Xue sits in her front yard as she looks up at the sky. Today there's no moon and it's still snowing.

Baili Xue was born in the winter and it was snowing that day. So, her parents named her 'Xue' which means snow.

Her only body maid Jinlan walks out of the room and puts a cloak over her.

"Princess, let's head back in. The snow is getting harder, and you can easily get sick like this." Jinlan said with worry.

Baili Xue slightly shakes her head, "Jinlan, do you believe in fate?"

Jinlan looks at the princess and thought for a moment. "I have been following princess ever since Lady Fu was alive. So, I do believe in fate. I think fate has brought me to you to take care of you," Jinlan said sincerely.

Baili Xue smiled. Memory flashes back to when Jinlan sacrificed her life for her and died in her arms.

"Jinlan, go prep some tea. We will have a visitor coming soon," Baili Xue calmly said.

Jinlan doesn't understand how the princess knows, but she quickly nods and went to boil tea.

As Baili Xue said, the emperor came.

This is the first time Baili Xue sees the emperor after her rebirth. Even though no one in the palace likes her, only her brother Baili Yifei would give her attention. Ever since their father passed away, he is the only family she has left. She suddenly remembers how those people kill him and take the throne away.

Baili Xue's eyes redden, but she has to hold in her emotions.

"Huang Xiong (means royal brother aka brother), what brought you here today?" Baili Xue asks.

Baili Yifei looks at his sister and saw her pale face. He touches his hand and realized how cold they were.

"Why are you sitting out here in this cold? Do you want me to keep worrying about you?" Baili Yifei said in worry and distress.

Two weeks ago, Baili Xue was pushed by someone onto the pond, and ever since then, she hasn't been awake till three days ago. Everyone thought she would be dead.

"I'm fine." Baili Xue said ensuring her brother that she was okay.

Baili Yifei then grabs the hand heater from Eunuch Zhang and placed it in her hands.

"If you get sick again, I'm going to punish you by not letting you go out anymore for three months! You understand?" He asks her.

Baili Xue smiles and nods. "Let's head in before I get sick then," she said and takes his hand.

Jinlan pours tea for both of them and then walks out of the room leaving them alone.

After both of them takes a sip of tea, Baili Yifei went straight to the topic.

"I came today to ask you something." Even though Baili Yifei already asked General Gu, he wants to ask her and get her opinions on this.

"What is it?" Baili Xue asks.

"Are you willing to marry General Gu?" Baili Yifei asks and looks into her eyes.

Baili Xue looks at him. This is the second time that Baili Yifei has asked her. The first time was in her past life. That time she quickly said no because she has never seen the general before, and she already liked someone. But that someone betrayed her.

Seeing that Baili Xue didn't speak up, he thought that she resists this marriage. As he was about to say something, Baili Xue spoke up.

"I would like to marry him!" Baili Xue said loud and clear. She didn't hesitate one bit and she said that answer.

Baili Xue has seen Gu Muyan before in her past life. That time he brought his soldiers to come and rescue her brother. But in the end, her brother told him to go protect her. Even though in the end, he sacrificed himself to save her. Baili Xue owed him and she knows that she has to repay him.

"Are you sure?" Baili Yifei asks.

Baili Xue smiles. "I've never been this sure in my life. Instead of staying in this cold palace for my whole life, why not go out."

Baili Yifei looks at her. He knows that she doesn't like living here.

"Even though you'll get married and move out of the palace, it doesn't mean this isn't your home. And doesn't mean that you don't come back to see me! You understand?" He said in his ordering voice.

Baili Xue slightly laughs, "Yes! Your majesty!"

Baili Yifei sighs, "I shouldn't have let you married to that kid!" As he said with regret.

Gu Muyan got back to his mansion and went to his office.

When Baili Yifei asks if he is willing to marry Baili Xue, his answer was yes. He didn't hesitate one bit because he was fully sure of this answer his whole life.
