The Gatelings

{DISCONTINUED} Twenty three years ago, something strange occurred in peoples' normal lives... A phenomenon that is known as 'The Gates' among humanity. They were big, strange and purple doors that appeared absolutely everywhere on Earth, all the way from Asia to Europe to the USA. Modern humanity took these as a threat, of course. Even if they've stayed closed and quiet, humanity's leaders banded together and created something... Something that would protect Earth and its inhabitants from danger. That was TGG, which was short for... The Gate Government. They quickly dispatched armed soldiers to each and every Gate that they knew of, and announced to the public that all was good and well! But, obviously, that was... Just not the case. As The Gates stood there doing nothing for a long while, the soldiers were, at one point, dismissed. Until, they slowly but surely started opening... By they, I mean The Gates. The soldiers were, once again, quickly dispatched to The Gates, with orders to shoot on sight anything and everything that came out of them. And they stuck to said orders, expecting dragons, orcs and goblins to come out of the Gates. And finally, once The Gates had completely opened... Humans came out of them..? ...Uhm... Sorry, what...?

The Hero And The Villain

A plan.

Anderson Matt needed a plan. And he needed it now.

He didn't know how much time he spent here, inside his brain. It probably hasn't even been one second in real time.

Ah, by the way, literally as we're talking, a shit ton of deadly things are coming at his head. Yet, Matt was thinking. But, the thing is... He was really thinking! So many thoughts, all at once... And all of them are ideas on how to survive.

It's impossible to see it from outside, but from the inside, you could see how Matt's head was filled with purple lightning. That's probably what allowed his brain to think super-duper-mega fast. Not that he was complaining though.

He was thinking, and thinking, and thinking. And plan, after plan, after plan... And yet, none of them seemed to work. His options seemed to get more and more limited.

But he wasn't giving up. He wouldn't allow himself to give up. Not if Emily's and Alex's life's are at stake. He wasn't giving up, ever.

Let's go over the main plans, shall we?

Duck- Immediate fail. He's not that fast...

Dodge- Again, not that fast...

With that, we're kinda out of options.

Wait, hold up. Holy shit, wait up!

He was so focused on dodging, that he forgot a crucial detail.

This dude was holding a big ass scythe, and was also a human battery.

Yes, yes... Wait a sec... Maybe... Or if he does that... Yup, alright. Matt made a plan.

The second he stops hyperfocusing on his brain, time starts running again. So, he had to be 100% ready.

After what seemed to be a few minutes of simulation in his brain of the plan, he was ready.

Matt cancelled out the hyperfocus, put all of his bodyweight on his right foot, and swung his scythe full force behind him, while also putting all of his electricity into his swing.

The swing seemed to create some kind of electric wall, and the deadly things flying towards him hit it, slowed down by a ton, and fell to the ground.

"Fuck, I'm so awesome..."

Matt started spinning his scythe once again, and started walking towards Jinn.

Jinn was now starting to panic.

"W-Wait! Let's uh... Shit, let's talk now?"

"Don't wanna."

Matt kicked him in the face.

"Do you have any idea how much time passed, asshole?"

"I don't know what you me-"

Matt kicked him in the stomach.

"Fuck me, I should pick up soccer again..."

Chloe then yelled out towards him.

"W-Wait! Matt! Please! Stop hitting him! He's already down!"

"Uh, hello, miss Airhead? This motherfucker threw, like, nails at me and shit? Like, killer intent?"

"Y-You have a scythe! A real one!"

Matt then swung full force at his hand. And yet, it remained intact, and didn't get cut.

He then smirked.

"Ah, I do?"

"W-Well, no, but..."

Matt bent down to Jinn.

"Y'know, this was self defense. Your boyfriend over here interrogated me, threw a chair at me, tried to hurt my friends, and is, just in general, a fucking asshole!"

Matt slapped Jinn while saying the last part.

"I'd say he had it comin', no?"

Jinn then murmured, on the ground.

"...You... Matt... I..."

"Hmm? What's up, Kinky?"

"Fuck you, Anderson Matt... I win..."

"Yeah. Right, sure you do. Well, anyway..."

Matt got up, and turned around. Surrounding him, were all of the teachers in the school, and... A police squad. Not any police squad. A TGG one. Highly trained on how to catch hybrids.

All of them were holding guns, and they were pointed at Matt.

Matt felt all of his ego leak out of him.

"...Oh. So that's what he meant."

He quickly looked around him, and saw some dust move in a corner.

"Thank fucking God...", he thought to himself.

Matt quickly put full power into his legs, dropped his weapon, started running towards said corner, and he grabbed what seemed to be... Nothing.

Well, you already guessed. He grabbed Alex, who was invisible, and booked it the fuck out of there. He kept running, and running, and running. Surprisingly, nobody was chasing him.

He got to a forest nearby, but he didn't stop. Only after finding a few old, fallen over trees, did he stop. He dropped Alex, and fell to the ground, panting, exhausted, and gasping for air.

"M-Matt! A-Are you okay...?"

"Do I look fuc-... Yeah, actually, yeah... I'm doing just fine... Don't worry Alex."

Alex looked around, though he obviously didn't recognize anything.

"Where... Are we, exactly?"

"A place... In which me... And my brother used... To train..."

"Well, uh, that explains the fallen and burned trees."

"We just... Have to wait..."

"Wait? For who?"

"Just... Wait and see..."

Matt then collapsed completely.

"M-Matt?! Hello?!"

Alex quickly checked him out with his heighten senses. He was alive, just unconscious.

A few minutes later, a blue light came from behind Alex.

"U-Uhm... Wait, Matt? How the..."

"Ah, hi there. I'm not Matt. I'm Patt! Nice to meet'cha!"

"Oh, right, he told me about you... Y-Yeah, hi..."

Patt looked at Matt, who was on the ground. He was obviously worried about him.

"Well... He'll be fine! We're just gonna have to wait for him to wake up."

***

A few hours have passed since then. Matt still hasn't woken up. It was starting to get dark.

Alex was getting more and more nervous by the second.

"H-Hey, uhm... Mr. Patt..."

"No need for the 'Mr.'! Just call me Patt! What's up?"

"Well, uhm... Is... Is Matt gonna be alright?"

Patt, who was usually cheery and full of great vibes, gradually stopped smiling.

"...Yeah. He's gonna be fine. I'm sure he will."

"...Okay."

Noticing that Alex was feeling down, Patt started trying to cheer him up.

"So! Uhh... Oh, what's your favorite animal?"

"...Why now?"

Patt's smile started disappearing once more.

"Well... I always used to ask Matt that whenever he was feeling under the weather. It took his mind off whatever was making him feel bad, and was now thinking happy thoughts about cute animals."

"...What's his favorite animal?"

"Definitely otters."

"And... Yours?"

Patt puffed his chest, then answered.

"Me? I like weasels!"

"But... Aren't they... Very similar?"

Patt smiled a bit.

"Well, c'mon, we aren't twins for nothing!"

He then started laughing, and soon Alex also started chuckling a bit.

"C'mon, c'mon, tell me yours!"

"N-No, I can't tell... You're not gonna believe me..."

"I will, I will! Tell me, c'mon!"

"I, uhm, actually... Like ferrets..."

Patt only laughed harder at that.

"Well, in that case, I guess you really must be our "cousin", huh?"

"Haha, yeah..."

Well, Patt succeeded. He made Alex not feel so bad anymore.

Patt then looked up at the sky, and noticed it was getting darker and darker.

"Damn... So she ain't showing, huh..."

"Who's not showing?"

"Nobody important. There's a cabin a few miles away from here. It's extremely run-down, but it'll do for the night. Let's go there for now, and we'll return here tomorrow."

"W-What's... A few miles...?"

"Ah. Right. You're Russian. Sorry."

Patt did some quick math.

"Uhh... Four kilometers? I think?"

...I said that it was quick, not that it was good. Anyway, it's less than that. About three.

"Oh, I see..."

"Because I'm gonna have to carry this sleeping beauty, it'll take us about an hour. Let's get going."

"Alright then."

The two started making their way to the cabin that Patt mentioned, whole carrying Matt.

Patt wanted to do it alone, but since Alex offered, they both ended up carrying him.

Well, you see, normally, it seemed like Matt was just knocked out normally. But, if Alex would have used his heighten senses, he would have noticed that Matt was emitting some crazy energy.

He wasn't completely knocked out. He could still feel stuff around him, and hear some basic things, like loud noises, though he couldn't make them out as anything.

Though, not only could he feel the grass on his hands, he could also feel something else.

An itchiness.

And not in just one specific area. Everywhere. Absolutely everywhere. Yes, even his privates. I thought I'd let you know. Don't ask why.

This itch didn't go away. No matter how hard he got scratched by rocks and branches, no matter how hard he tried to ignore it... It wouldn't go away.

It wasn't a normal itch. It was different. It wasn't just on his skin, he felt it even scratching around at his bones.

And, his brain, who was still mostly functioning, had only one thing to say...

"This fucking sucks!"

It was hella annoying. It just wasn't going away. It's been like this for hours, since he "passed out", and yet it just didn't want to buzz off.

Though, it was a bit weird. This seemed oddly familiar. It was familiar, but the reason why was unknown. It's like seeing a aunt or uncle who you haven't seen in 7 years. They look and feel familiar, but you aren't sure why.

Anyhow, at one point, he stopped feeling the grass on his hands, and was now feeling something a little harder. It seemed and felt like... Wood?

He could hear faint sounds around him, like movement. Then, all of a sudden, he felt something cold hit his face. Then again. And then again.

This went on for a while. Matt's single thought shifted from "This fucking sucks." to "This really fucking sucks!"

Then, as he thought he'd have to just get hit in the face constantly for who knows how long... It just happened that his fingers touched. Maybe it was muscle memory, maybe it was something else...

But, for literally half a second, a spark was created. Just one.

If you're wondering what this means... It means that, basically... Just think of it as an engine getting jumpstarted, 'kay?

It also just so happened that the cold stuff that kept hitting him in the face was water. And it got absolutely everywhere.

And, again, water conducts electricity.

So, that one spark quadrupled, and then those quadrupled as well, and so on, so forth! In no more than two seconds, Matt's whole body had woken up, and his instinct was yelling at him to get up, and block another wave of water that was coming at him!

And, well, so he did! He got up, stretched his arm towards the water, blocked it, and started emitting electricity from his palm in a threatening manner.

"How about you stop..."

On the other side of his hand, was none other than Emily.

"...Doing..."

An Emily who was very clearly bawling her eyes out, and was suddenly extremely happy that Matt was had finally woken up.

"T-That?!"

His arm fell to his side, and Emily jumped on him, while hugging him.

"Woah, woah, wait! A-Are you okay?!"

Emily yelled at him, but didn't break the hug.

"Obviously not, you dumbass! I thought you were dead!"

Matt didn't speak another word, and just hugged her back.

"...I'm sorry. I'm alright. I'm fine."

Matt looked up, and saw Alex and Patt.

Patt was very obviously a bit shaken, but overall fine, and Alex clearly cried a bit as well.

Patt spoke up.

"Welcome back to Earth, Matt."

"W-Wait, did I..."

"Die, basically, for about 10 minutes? Yeah, you did. You scared us."

"What's the..."

Matt looked outside the cabin's broken window, and saw a beautiful sunrise. Well, no time to admire it, but...

"...Time."

Patt smiled at him.

Ah, by the way, guess what?

"It's Friday, Matt. Friday morning. Like, 7 AM or something."

Matt's heart sank, like in an endless sea, awaiting to be consumed by whatever lurked in it.

"...It's... Fucking what now?"

Emily, who still hasn't pulled back from the hug, and wasn't planning to, answered.

"Friday, you asshole..."

"No, no, no... No way... I was kinda conscious for all of that! It felt like a few hours at most!"

"Well, in real time, it's been four days."

"...Fuck me, man. Shit. W-Wait, what about Jinn? And the A.C.T.P.?"

Patt smiled, like usual.

"Ah, that?"

Patt pulled out a newspaper from his backpack.

"You're a wanted fugitive now! Both you and Alex!"

Well, uhm, y'know how I said "endless sea"? Yeah, fuck that, his heart reached the end, broke it, and continued on going down to hell.

"...Oh my fucking... Wait, what about you guys?"

"Well, I managed to clear my name two days ago, and Emily wasn't really wanted in the first place. But uh, still, you should read this."

Matt took the newspaper, and started reading it. And if you're wondering, yes, he was still being hugged by Emily during all that.

| Wanted Hybrid! Dangerous and armed!

A few days ago, there was a huge fight at our local A.C.T.P. location. It has been confirmed that the two who partake in the fight were Kinko Jinn and Anderson Matt. The reason for the fight is unknown, but we do know that the winner, Anderson, is dangerous and armed with a deadly scythe. Many of his classmates have provided us with a name for this fugitive– 'The Reaper.'

He is a wanted criminal for breaking article seven, paragraph twelve: "Any and all use of Agily's is prohibited unless supervised by a teacher and/or authorized personnel.", and is also wanted for normal crimes that aren't restricted to hybrids.

In other news, we were informed of another fugitive, codenamed 'Disappear', who seems to be one of the hybrids who came over from another count- |

Matt ripped the newspaper in half. The word 'angry' barely described him. He was more than just that. Furious, enraged... The term didn't matter.

He was fucking pissed.

"Those goddamn assholes..."

"So, Matt... Seems like you're the villain, and Jinn's the hero."

"They got us mixed up, huh..."

"Then, what's the plan?"

Matt chuckled before responding.

"Isn't it obvious? We go take down a time bomb that could go off any second."

Alex talked for the first time in a while.

"W-We...?"

"Well, mostly me. You're also wanted, but you can't fight. So... You're gonna be my backpack!"

"I ,uh, I am?"

"Yes, please. You provide me with anything I need, using nr. 3, and stay out of sight using nr. 1. Is that fine with you, Disappear?"

"W-Well... I guess so, Reaper..."

"Hey, hey, what about us?"

Matt thought for a second, then came up with something.

"Well, I ain't no Walter... But!"

He pointed at Patt.

"You're Begone."

He then put his hand on Emily's head, who was still hugging him.

"And she's Fountain. Any complaints?"

Alex and Patt both stated "No sir!", and stood upright, like soldiers. They then started playing around with finger guns, leaving the Matt and Emily unattended. It seemed they got close in this week, those two.

Matt looked down at Emily.

"Hey, uh, you sure you're okay?"

"No, I'm not... You're such an asshole..."

"I know, I'm sorry. I took way too long, didn't I?"

"You did..."

Matt thought for a second about what to say, found something, but ultimately scrapped the idea. It was Emily's arms that were around him that made him rethink his choices. He hugged her a bit tighter.

"Hey, s-so... I... I missed you..."

"...I did too."

The two decided to keep hugging a bit longer.

While this was happening to the "villain", somewhere in the woods, in a small little abandoned cabin...

At the same time, in the big city, the "hero" was up and about. And he was pissed.

He's been pissed for a while, to be honest. He didn't know why. But ever since Monday, he was feeling fucking angry.

He had it all. A beautiful family. A beautiful girlfriend. A great Agily. So, why did he feel so... Unsatisfied?

No matter how much time he spent with his family, how many times he laid his hands on his girlfriend, or how much he trained... He was always feeling unsatisfied. Flustered. Nervous. Angry.

Kinko Jinn was experiencing defeat.

He? Defeat? That Jinn? He lost?

Unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable. He couldn't come to terms with it.

So he started making excuses.

"He had a better weapon!"

"I wasn't giving it my all!"

"There were people around!"

Excuses, excuses, and more excuses.

Jinn couldn't, and wouldn't accept defeat.

He couldn't accept the fact that Matt beat him.

He was labeled as the villain, a loser, and Jinn was labeled as the hero! He was the hero! He was the main character! Everything in this world revolved around him! He was this planet's god!

So, just why...

Why did he, the strongest person on Earth, lose to a weakling like him?!

Why, why, why?!

Why did it feel like...

Like Matt completely stole the "main character" title from him?!
