A pie fell from the sky

When Shen Mei came back, the dinner table was already set, and everyone was sitting down ready to eat.

"Come, Mei Mei. We were waiting for you. Auntie Luo even made some soup dumplings, especially for you." Mr Shen beckoned for Shen Mei to sit down, and he pushed the soup dumplings to Shen Mei's side.

Shen Mei's heart ached as she saw the table full of food. She thought that she'd freshen up and go to sleep since she already ate too much, but Auntie Luo decided to make such a scrumptious dinner. Now she had no choice but to eat.

As they were enjoying their dinner, Shen Mei told them about her day and how she loved the mall she went to. She did not mention the incident that occurred but continued to praise the mall and its owner, then suddenly remembered what she promised Assistant Lin.

"Mom, dad. I hope you don't mind but I invited someone for dinner tomorrow. Is that okay?"

Mrs Shen was the fastest to reply, "Of course we don't mind. You can bring your friend tomorrow. We'll ask Auntie Luo to cook her signature dishes."

"No!" Shen Mei hastily replied, and they all looked at her in surprise.

"No? What do you mean, no?" Mr Shen couldn't help but ask.

Shen Mei smacked her mouth. She couldn't tell them that she did not want Auntie Luo to cook her signature dishes because she was afraid that Assistant Lin would steal her recipes and put them in his food court or, even worse, ask Auntie Luo to work for him. She was worried that Auntie Luo would be tempted and decide not to work for them. Shen Mei's brain was filled with nonsense, which she thought made sense.

"By no, I mean... no need to go all out. It's just a regular dinner."

"Nonsense! Auntie Luo is worth being shown off. This is the first time you're bringing someone over for dinner, so we have to put all our weapons on the table! This way, they'll come back again!" Mr Shen couldn't help but comment with passion.

Shen Mei sighed and held her forehead with distress. What's the use of showing off to someone who swims in money?

"By the way, Mei Mei, who have you invited? Is it a him or a her?" Mrs Shen asked.

"It's a him."

Mr Shen could not sit still anymore after hearing that Shen Mei invited a boy over, so he quickly said, " How old is he?"

"I think he's about three years older than me..." Shen Mei replied.

"Does he work?"

"Yes, he works in a big company."

"Is he handsome?"

"Very!"

"Ooh... my baby has a keen eye." Mrs Shen commented.

"Of course she does. She's my daughter!" Mr Shen gave Jingxiao a proud look.

Shen Mei became even more distressed. What was going on in her parents' heads. She was just inviting someone for dinner. Why were they overthinking?

"Mei Mei, do we perhaps know him?" Mrs Shen continued to throw questions at Shen Mei.

"I think you do..."

"What's his name?"

Shen Mei pondered over this question. She did not exactly know his name. All she knew was that he was Assistant Lin. Everyone called him that way. So she should give an honest answer.

"It's Assistant Lin."

Mrs Lin dropped her fork in shock, and Mr Lin choked. Shen Xiaoting, who was uninterested in Shen Mei's stories, also looked up in surprise. What was Shen Mei talking about?!

"Mei Mei, are you talking about the assistant Lin we all know?" Mrs Shen carefully asked.

"Yes. The one from Lin Corp who has a rich boss."

After hearing her reply, Shen Xiaoting grabbed her chopsticks tighter to the extent that they almost broke. Who didn't know Assistant Lin? He is the most difficult person to talk to. Let alone to invite him to dinner. Was Shen Mei mad? When did she invite Assistant Lin to dinner?!

"What?! When did you meet him? Where did you meet him? How did you invite him?"

"Jingxiao, I'm as shocked as you, but you don't see me bombarding our daughter with questions, do you? Ask her one question at a time!"

"Shen Hai, I'm not talking to you. I'm talking to my daughter!" Mrs Shen shot him a single glare, and he went mute. Shen then shifted her attention to Shen Mei again.

"Mei Mei, when did you meet him?" She asked softly.

"I met him today."

"Where?"

"At the mall."

"How did you manage to invite him?"

"He treated me to some food. And I invited him to dinner."

"What?! He even bought you food?!" Shen Xiaoting, who was quiet as mule suddenly blurted out. When has Assistant Lin ever treated anyone this nicely? Shen Mei was definitely cooking up stories to gain her parents' attention. Yes, that must be the case!

Shen Mei looked at everyone's reaction. Weren't they overreacting? Assistant Lin is a nice person. Surely, if they tried inviting him politely themselves, he would've agreed.

"Alright, enough questions. If you have questions about him, you can ask him yourself tomorrow. I have finished all my food, I'm full, and I need to digest, so I'll be taking a stroll around the garden before going to sleep. See you later." Shen Mei slipped away.

They still had a lot to ask her. Why did she slip away? The Shen couple did not continue to eat. They were discussing Assistant Lin's arrival tomorrow. What if his boss decided to tag along? No, no, no, that was not possible! But then again, assistant Lin managed to be invited. Why wouldn't he? The couple had a heated discussion. They needed to prepare for his arrival.

Shen Xiaoting's face at this moment was unsightly and the Shen couple did not notice it. How did Shen Mei get hold of the golden egg? It was not possible, how can that shrew have such luck? Shen Mei must be lying to all of them.

Shen Xiaoting calmed herself down. Since her sister was lying to gain attention, she would embarrass herself tomorrow if Assistant Lin does not show up. Their parents would be so disappointed in her.

Shen Xiaoting smirked. This was the perfect opportunity to kick out her dear sister. A pie just fell down from the sky. It was all thanks to Shen Mei's foolishness.
