As a young woman Adair Fox enters the civilization test, the most difficult test in the entirety of the Galactic Empire, in hopes of achieving that highest of honors and finally becoming eligible to meet her parents. It took her a bit to figure out what exactly the movers had done to set up and open the machine, but luckily she at least knew where to look, so it did not take too long. Once she opened up the side hatch of the giant ball machine, she noticed that it looked very similar to a virtual reality setup that the Galactic Empire had but instead of a headset that you put over your eyes, there were panels all around her to simulate the same effect.

And since she was somewhat familiar with how the technology was set up, it was much easier for her to start the machine up and get situated in a comfortable position inside the machine. And when she started the machine up, she noticed that it seemed that the technology was very similar to the device that Roxanne had used but this machine used "real" mana instead of synthetic mana.
