As I looked around the room, I couldn't help but notice the intricate patterns on the floor and the dust that had settled on the furniture. The way the light filtered in through the windows caught my attention as well. It made me wonder about all the people who might have been in that room before me and what they were like. As I lost myself in thought, hours passed, and I found myself feeling more alone than ever.
Feeling a bit lost, I muttered to myself, "Xavier told me to learn about this world, but does he really expect me to know everything? I mean, even in my own world, I rarely ventured outside of town." As I spoke those words, I realized how isolated my life had been.
Slap
Slapping some sense into me I started to look around. I should get used to this enormous room I suppose.
Taking my time, that is, to be precise an hour I got to know that this whole apartment isn't just rooms. The main room is just furniture to relax and all but there are two giant bedrooms. The third room was like a library, the shelves were double my length. Watching it I realised maybe Xavier wanted me to read those books. And lastly, there was a room which was filled with cartons so I didn't try to look into it yet. I'll look into it later on.
Knock, Knock
"Who is it?" Just then, I heard a knock on the door, which surprised me since I thought I was alone in the entire building except for the receptionist. The door creaked open, and I saw a young boy standing there, looking at me hesitantly. "Are you a new resident here?" he asked me.
"Hmm?" Confused I looked at him.
"Are you a new resident here?" He asked.
Resident? "Maybe," I said. "If my work finishes up I won't be here long."
"I-Is that s-so." He seemed a bit dejected.
"So who are you?" I asked.
"Umm-"
He seemed a bit hesitant answering that, "Don't be afraid I won't bite you." I said laughingly.
"My mom told me to never tell my name to strangers…" He said.
"But she told you to talk with them?" I asked.
"… Now that I think of it she told me not to even talk with strangers too!" He said as he covered his mouth with his small hands.
Before I could say any further we both heard a loud yell, "Dexter! I told you not to talk with people staying in, didn't I!?"
"I-I am not!" With that, he shut close the gate and left to run possibly.
"There you are!" Is it her mother, "How many times I told you not to disturb any of them!"
"B-But I wasn't!" Dexter tried to defend but even I could hear his voice clearly not convincing enough.
"Is that so? Then why is your tail wagging like that?"
Tail? TAIL?! His tail?
Without any hesitation, I opened my door and saw a pair of tails wagging. I tried rubbing my eyes and still couldn't believe myself.
"Am I dreaming…?"
"Sir, I am deeply sorry for disturbing you." A female figure bowed down to me.
For a moment I was stunned.
"Sir…?" She waved her hand up against my eyes.
"Oh- yeah. Sorry," I said, "What are you saying No, no! You don't need to apologize about anything."
"…"
"Can I ask you something?" Even I could feel myself being pumped up.
"Yes, anything." She replied firmly.
"Is that re-real?" I unconsciously moved my hands towards it.
"Y-Yes what is real…?" Her voice was cracking as she moved a bit further. I understood the reaction and took a step back instantly.
"That tail," I said. "Are both of your tails real?"
"Y-yes," She said. "It's real. I-is something wr-wrong…?"
"No no! I was just curious." I could feel this conversation being uncomfortable for both of them. "Well, then I'll leave you both alone."
Without a moment of waste, I turned around and closed the door behind as I entered the room.
"Damn!" I exclaimed, "If those tails were real then it means whatever Xavier has been talking about Magnus might really be true."
No no no if this is really true then those demonic types creatures must be there too! Just when I thought I forgot about it.
Knock, Knock
Again?
"Who is it?" I asked.
"Elsi."
Elsi? Isn't that the woman we met at the entrance?
She opened the door and entered the room, "Don't worry not everyone can come inside the rooms that easily. I am just special."
"Okay…?" I was still confused why she is here. It's not like the manager has to do anything with me now.
"Can I take a seat?" She asked.
"S-Sure," I replied.
"It's Alex isn't it?"
"Yeah."
"So how is it?"
"What is?"
"The room obviously," chuckling she said.
"R-right," I said. "It's amazing."
"Good to hear," She said.
Now that I look at her in a much lighted area, isn't she a beauty? I mean not in a creepy way but in general. Like you go for a walk in a park and you see a woman that is way out of your league and yet held onto the hope of her talking to us since we can't muster up the courage cause we know our shot wouldn't be even worth it. She is that type of woman.
"Anyway who are you?" She asked me.
"A-Alex?" I replied.
"I know that too but I'm asking as in where are you from? Since you were with Xavier you are in no way special." She said, "So tell me who are you."
"… I'm human…?" I didn't know how am I supposed to reply to this question since she have hopes of me being special sort of. And Xavier what sort of things does he do? He was already weird to me.
"Well I won't budge you further if you aren't going to talk." With that she stood up and walked towards me.
I took a few steps back but she didn't stop.
"Wh-What?"
"I don't know your story but don't end up doing things you aren't supposed to." She said in a concerned voice.
"Huh?" Perplexed me couldn't understand why she said something like that.
After Elsi left the room, I was left with a multitude of unanswered questions and an overwhelming sense of fear.
