Chapter 3 : Inside the 'Gate'

As the squad enters the gate they're inside a cave, with only one path. The soldiers were always alert as they didn't know what they were going to face inside the portal. As they found nothing special with the place nearby the portal they decided to go forward the path.

"Sir, our communication with the outside world is blocked."

"I see, can we still go out then? Who wants to volunteer themself?"

A soldier raised his hand and walk through the portal, everyone was waiting nervously as they didn't know if they could return from this place.

Some time passed, and everyone was getting more nervous. Luckily, the soldier was back. He was late because he reported the inability to communicate from inside the portal to the outside world.

"Let's go and explore this place, stick to the plan and if anything unexpected occurs we should abandon the operation. Do you understand?"

"YES, SIR"

"Alright, let's move."

As they moved inside, they noticed that even though the cave was enclosed, they were still able to see clearly.

Along the way, they didn't spot anything weird. Which was weird considering that there was some kind of energy being emitted from the portals. uneasiness started to emerge from the soldier's hearts.

"This place is too quiet." - Goto

As they kept on walking they spotted a door at the end of the tunnels, it was a blue double gate with torches on both sides lighting up the place.

"Sir, the energy reading is getting stronger."

The team brought in a scientist with an energy reader in this operation to help them identify the source of the energy emitted from the portal.

"There's nothing else, let's enter the door. The source of the energy must be behind this door. Everyone prepare yourself."

The squad then entered the gate, and what they saw inside the gate surprised them. A room filled with blue crystal and a book on the altar in the middle of the room.

"Incredible, this is...."

The scientist was running towards the crystals as he saw the energy reader going bonkers.

"These crystals, they're the source of the energy. Come here, help me pull them out."

some soldiers then gather around the scientist and help him. While the squad leader approaches the book.

As he touches the book, the room begins to shake. They also heard stomping sounds from the end of the room.

"Everyone fall back."

Everyone then gathers around near the entrance of the room and prepared their guns, the leader also signals to the people in the backline to prepare their retreat.

What they saw surprised them it was a giant monster about 3 meters tall, it has big ears and a nose, with filthy, yellow, crooked teeth. Behind it, there was something similar looking but with smaller sizes ranging from 0,5 m to 1m.

"Isn't that a goblin?"

The big goblin then started screaming, as the little ones charged at them.

"Everyone open fire."

They fired at the goblins while falling back, even though their shots killed some but because of the seemingly endless number of goblins, the number didn't diminish at all.

"Tch, there're too many of them. Throw your grenade and run to the portal."

The team then began throwing their grenade and firing their guns while running.

When suddenly they saw a giant fireball coming towards them.

"What the? Everyone scatters."

The fireball then hit the ground as an explosion occurs. Some of them were unlucky and failed to dodge in time.

The squad leader was confused about where the fireball came from. But there's no time to think, they need to escape now. The small goblins are catching up to them.

"Keep moving, we need to escape now."

[Outside the portal]

"The energy emitted had increased significantly."

The portal was getting bigger as time passes by. The scientists were fascinated and wanted to enter the portal but they were dissuaded by the army.

They're going to argue more, but suddenly people came out of the portal.

They then came to find out but were surprised to find that the people that came out were injured. They immediately called the medics to treat the injured.

"Damn it, that place is dangerous. Luckily we managed to secure the book and some of the crystals." - Squad Leader.

"Is there anyone else who will come out?"

The squad leader shook his head but suddenly realized.

'If we could go out the portal then the monster...'

"Everyone prepare your gun, the monster may come out from the portal."

The soldiers suddenly became alert and set-up their guns in case the monster could come out. After a while, no monster came out which made the soldiers sigh in relief.

[In the barracks]

The squad leader of the operation alongside the members of the operation was gathered here to report their findings to the higher-ups.

"So, what did you find in there?"
