Desmond thought it would be better to knock on the apartment door he occupied, despite the fact that he still had the keys to it. With the way he left things with Ryan, it felt like it would only make things worse between them if he just walked in with Atlas in tow. The whole purpose of coming here was the hope that he could get his life back on track. That if he couldn’t have everything he felt he wanted now, he could at least reestablish some form of normalcy. Even if it never went back to the way it was before.

Inside the apartment, he could hear movement that indicated someone was home. The person on the other side of the door was grumbling as they approached and when it got closer, he could identify that it was Ryan. If Desmond had to guess, Ryan was probably napping on the living room couch at that time in the afternoon. His shifts ran late, so this was usually the case when he was off work.
