Chapter 26: The Hard Truth

“You two can talk all you want, once I finish patching up these wounds,” Atlas said with a disapproving shake of his head. “I’m right to assume there’s nothing I can do about the dark veins, right?”

Mykel’s attention was redirected to the medium that was knelt beside the couch which he rested upon. He confirmed his question with a shake of his head. “There isn’t anything that can be done about those. They have nothing to do with these holes in my body.”

The three went into a tense silence while Atlas worked to cover the open wounds in Mykel’s torso. Desmond stood waiting anxiously for him to finish, his mind reeling over what it was that Mykel wanted to talk about. The appearance of the black veins had him feeling a sense of urgency. Something had to be done about them before they spread further. Desmond didn’t want to think of what would happen if it came down to him being forced to make the final bind to The Echo. There was no way he could imagine killing Mykel.
