Chapter 32: March To The Princess

CHARLES’S POV:

Charles strode through the palace. Unlike when he and Malia first entered, he felt that all eyes were increasingly on him. Lucie, their guide, came pacing down the stairs, her silks fluttering as she ran; for some reason, they reminded Charles of Malia. Perhaps it was their resemblance to the silk he had bought for her in the market before the parade.

Lucie curtsied. “Princess Monet has requested that you meet her in her chamber, Mr. Dunn,” she said.

“Word travels fast here, huh?” Charles said.

“Yes, she was informed of your approach this morning,” Lucie said. “And has been eagerly preparing for you for the past hour.”

“Has she, now?” Charles wondered if Chloe was aware of the attack on him and Malia or cared.

Lucie smiled and did not answer; working in a palace with royals since she was a child had taught her to distinguish a rhetorical question from one that genuinely desired a reply.

“Okay, show me the way,” Charles said.
