Chapter 19

'Woah. Easy there. Why do you look so mad?' , she wanted to ask.

Looking at him reminded her of a dog vigilant about its surroundings.

'It must be the breakup.', she concluded in her mind. Thinking of this made her feel more sympathy towards the man.

"I just wanted to talk to you,"  she muttered with a more gentle voice.

"What is it?"

He responded, looking a bit irritated.

Obviously, it wasn't just a bit.

"Well, I thought maybe we could be friends, she said, sounding hopeful.

"Friends?"

"Yeah..like talk and have fun."

"Fun?"

Why is this guy repeating every last word she says?

Is he deaf?

"Yeah. Well, you know—"

"Fun...Ha!"

Just then, the man laughed all of a sudden.

'What's so funny? I didn't even crack a joke" ,Claire thought.

"Oh, you don't have to explain. I know what your definition of fun is," he said with a mocking grin.

"Sorry? "

What was that supposed to mean?

Was he insinuating that she was referring to something else?"

 "So you're a slow one."

The man clicked his tongue.

"Isn't that predictable?" he whispered himself but Clare heard it.

"What the hell is your problem? ",she retorted.

"My problem is that you're trying so hard for attention."

"Huh?"

This f----- a-hole!

She was just being friendly, and all of a sudden—this douchebag was insulting her?

What was his problem?

"I was just trying to befriend you. I wasn't trying to—"

"Liar," he said.

'Unbelievable.'

He looked at her with subtle disgust.

She was caught off guard when the man suddenly drew close to her.

"Go have fun with someone else. I don't like having fun with girls like you ." he said with a condescending voice.

Just as she was about to retaliate, the man stopped to look down at his watch.

Putting some distance between them, he sighed with relief and stood up.

He grabbed his jacket before walking towards the door of the venue.

Filled with disbelief, Clare watched him as he exited the hall.

She couldn't comprehend what just happened.

What he did—

Just now...

That guy...

'I'm gonna kill him.'

Filled with disbelief she could not react properly from his display of an adverse reaction.

What was he?...A certified woman-hater?!

Geez.

Is it because she just wanted to strike up a conversation?

He could have just said "no."

" What an a--hole." she muttered under her breath.

'Oh God. He was insufferable.'

Clare roamed her eyes around the venue once again, hoping to forget that she ever interacted with the man.

It was a shame that he had a Godly appearance. When paired with a hideous attitude, it amounted to nothing.

Whoever his ex-girlfriend was, Clare totally understands why she left that poor excuse of a man. She wouldn't date that kind of man either! That poor woman saved herself and dodged a bullet by leaving him.

She relaxed her back and scooted to the side of the couch when she felt an object hitting her legs.

"Oh, God."

Clare wanted to curse as she found an object lying on the couch. The rectangular shaped thing was made up of expensive leather and seemed to waving at her.

'Ahh. This douchebag left his wallet. '

Putting it on the center table, Clare decided to ignore it afterwards. She looked away trying to stir her attention away from the object. No. She will never ever give that to him. After what he's done, he doesn't have the right to blame her for this!

If he ever goes home with no money, it's his fault for rushing out and leaving his wallet behind!

He had the nerve to call her dumb, when he was also another one.

Clare grinned.

'He deserves it. That's karma, I tell you.'

She thought that she might just have to relax in this cozy super expensive couch and wait for everything to end.

If the Clifford guy asks her what happened she could just tell him that the man left.

Speaking of the Devil...

"Oh, hey! Where's my friend? " Clifford asked in a straight forward manner and pointed to the empty space beside her.

Clare rolled her eyes before meeting his questioning gaze.

"He left...I think he has an upset stomach."she smiled through her lie.

'He said he hates liars. Well, I hate him too.'

"Oh..." Clifford appeared dissatisfied by his friend's sudden absence.

The girl's answer was an obvious lie.

Jaxon? Leaving with an upset stomach? That man would rather shit his pants than ever leave with an upset stomach!

The girl probably pissed him off.

To be honest, Clifford was a bit disappointed he thought he was gonna see something interesting today but it turned out the same with the other scenarios they had way back.

'That guy seemed to just hate women in general.'

He shook his head as he thought about the assumptions based on Jaxon's sexuality being right. It's a shame he can't pass his magnificent looks to the next generation.

Jaxon would probably end dying all alone in this world. He dismissed the idea of bugging his friend any longer and looked at the pink haired girl who looked equally annoyed.

She tried her best to hide it but she was obviously failing as her whole person was emanating an aura of raging fire.

"Is that his wallet over there?"

Alarmed, Clare instinctively covered up the wallet by moving her body to block his line of sight.

"What? —Wallet? What do you mean? I didn't see any wallets. Whose wallet are we talking about? "She blurted out in panic.

Clifford chuckled.

'Oh, Jaxon, you must've been horrible to this poor woman.'

"Behind you.",he said.

"The one on the table... It's my friend's wallet; he must've left it on accident."

Feigning ignorance, the woman didnt dare to look at it but then Clifford used his finger to point it out.

"It's there... Look, behind you."

The smile on her face finally cracked as she slowly turned to look at the spot of the table where the wallet was.
